February, 2011
Catch the Super Bowl at Daffodil The Super Bowl is on Sunday, February 6. Hopefully by now you have bought your ticket to watch the game here. For only $10, you will be able to get your name in for the grand prize and other drawings, food, drink specials and a lot of fun. There are only 200 tickets available. The bar opens at 1:30 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday. Thank you. — Your Super Bowl Committee
Auxiliary delivers some ice cold cash At the Auxiliary meeting on January 13, the members wanted to turn over to the Aerie money that they had raised on top of the $1,500 they had all ready raised and given to the Aerie for the bar floor repair. It was brought to our attention that now the ice machine has gone out and with the bar costs being higher than expected, this had really added up. A motion was made and passed for the Auxiliary to buy the ice machine and surprise the Aerie members at their meeting on January 19. The Aerie was very surprised and thankful when the Auxiliary presented a $5,400 check for the cost of the ice machine. This is how great things can happen when the Aerie and Auxiliary work together.

From Your Madam President
February is Heart Month at Daffodil I hope all of you are having a great New Year. We have had a little bit of snow here and there. Let’s hope the weather does not get any worse than what we have had. I like the warm weather and seeing the sun is on the horizon. We had the Kids’ Christmas Party in December and we had a big turnout. It was a lot of fun for everyone. I would like to thank Lori Downhour, my Kids’ Event Chairmen, and her crew for all of their help in putting this together. I would also like to thank Frank and Markay Archer for being Santa and Mrs. Claus. They did a wonderful job! February is Heart Month. My Heart Chairman, Loni Andrews, is having our Sweetheart Ball on Saturday, February 12 and she is planning our Heart Fund Dinner on Sunday, February 13 from 3 to 6 p.m. Heart disease is the leading cause of death and men and woman in the United States. Please donate to the Heart Fund so we can help with this deadly disease.
SISTERS NEEDED!! Our Auxiliary meetings are on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. If we do not get more Sisters coming to our meetings, our Auxiliary will die. We have approximately 1,450 Sisters in our Auxiliary. At the last meeting we had five Sisters, other than the officers, who attended. Just remember your membership is not just a lounge pass! Please be part of your Auxiliary and have a voice. We need you!!! — Penny Fiedler, Madam President “What comes from the heart, goes to the heart.”
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Here’s news from the Thursday kitchen crew The Thursday night kitchen volunteers want to thank all of our customers for the support they have shown this past year or so and want to inform you where the proceeds for these dinners go. Funds from Eddie’s spaghetti have always been evenly-divided, after expenses, with the Auxiliary. The other meals goes to the Aerie Improvement Fund unless the Auxiliary or some charity wants to have one of their fund-raisers. We are always depending on our volunteers to man these Thursday events and even encourage anyone wanting to have a fund-raiser on a Thursday to talk to the Trustees. As of the writing of this newsletter article, the plans for February are as follows: • First week is always Eddies spaghetti (except in July or December) • Second week is Taco Bar • Third week is Fish and Chips • Fourth week is Chili or Hamburgers If you have other menu ideas, they are always welcome. Again we want to thank you for supporting your Puyallup Eagles Aerie #2308.
Trustees corner Thanks for all your help! Hello Members of 2308! Our New Year’s Eve Party was again a great success! Thanks in no small part to the efforts of our club manager, Loni, and all our employees!! And we cannot forget all the other help from our members who are always there when we need them to be. Thank you all!! Well, the bar is finally finished. Now we are on to new challenges in 2011. We, the Trustees, again want to thank all of you for your continued support! Without it, we couldn’t do our job, which is to keep our club one of the best around! — Your Aerie Trustees

It’s Heart Month At Daffodil 2308! February is “Heart Month” at Daffodil Eagles. On Saturday, February 12, we are having a Sweetheart Dance. Bring your sweetie down and have a nice evening of dancing, pictures and maybe be crowned King and Queen of the night. Then on Sunday, February 13, we will have a baked chicken dinner with baby red potatoes, veggies, salad and a roll for $9 per person. The dinner is from 3 to 6 p.m. Come down and enjoy a wonderful meal. We will be having a raffle and selling hearts during the first two weeks in February. All monies after expenses will go to the Heart Fund. Thank you. — Your Heart Fund Chairpersons, Bernie Gregory and Loni Andrews

Thanks for supporting Cupid’s chocolates are the Cancer fund-raiser just around the corner I want to thank all the folks who supported my efforts to raise some more money for our Auxiliary's Cancer Fund. I know it wasn’t easy to donate the dollars, coming on the heels of Christmas, but I do appreciate the willingness of so many of you. The snowmen look pretty hanging in the bar. I hope you agree. If you haven’t found your snowman yet, keep looking as they are all hung up. I will be bugging you again for your help and support in March with Shamrocks and a great dinner and raffle — all in hopes of finding a cure for a disease that strikes so many. Again, thank you. — Shireen Ainsworth Auxiliary Cancer Chairman
Big Jim’s spaghetti to help stomp out cancer
If you didn’t get enough sweets at Christmas, it’s time for Cupid to drop chocolate Valentines down the chimney. Oops, I just had a senior moment and confused him with Santa Claus. I had so much food over the holidays I probably couldn’t look a box of chocolates in the face (that’s presuming they have a face). I hope you had a lot of fun with friends and family. Things are nice, but at this stage of life friends are more valuable, don’t you think? Our regular meetings are back on schedule. The potluck and business meeting is on the first Thursday of the month and the birthday meeting is at 12:30 p.m. on the third Thursday. I hope to see you here! — Joyce Louderback, Reporter
