Volume 60, No. 1
January, 2011 From Your Madam President
Wow, my year is half completed!! Welcome to 2011. I hope you all had a great Christmas holiday and enjoyed it with all of your family and friends! I cannot believe that it is 2011. My year is half over and it seems like yesterday when I was installed. I have had an interesting year so far. I have really enjoyed getting to meet new people and enjoy seeing all of our new Sisters being initiated. We are getting closer and closer to our membership quota, so please Sisters, keep bringing in new Sisters. I would like to offer Cathi Mahan and Terry Gregory a huge thank you for all of their help in organizing our “Christmas Family” project. They did a wonderful job! I would also like to thank all the Sisters who helped wrap all the gifts that were donated. It is such a great feeling to see what our Eagles club can do in helping others. We will have a Joint Officers Meeting on Wednesday, January 26 at 7 p.m. If any of the Auxiliary officers cannot make it, please let me know. Don’t forget that our meetings are on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. At our January 27 meeting, we will have our New Year gift exchange. Please come to the meeting and bring a gift and join in on all the fun!! I hope you all have a happy New Year! — Penny Fiedler, Madam President “May happiness touch our life today as warmly as you have touched the lives of others.”
Happy 2011

Thanks for all the help with our bar Hopefully everyone made it through the Holidays stress free. (LOL.) First of all, thank you to all of you who helped finish the bar and get it up and running . You all are totally awesome volunteers. To our maintenance man Mike Andrews, thank you a hundred times over. Without your help we all would have been in trouble. On Saturday, January 29, we are having a grand re-opening of the bar. With “Sunny’s 4 Cast” as the band for the evening, we will have a great party and a lot of fun, so please come down and support your bar. For those of you who bought buttons, look for the button sign. That’s when the special is on. — Loni A., Aerie Manager

Texas Hold’em
Players split $12,000 in championship game
Duffers, what is the best way to start a New Year? Have a Winter Golf Tournament. That’s right! On February 17, there will be a practice round at Sequim’s Sunlands Golf Course at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start. The tournament will be on February 18, 19 and 20 at the Seven Cedars at Dungeness in Sequim. Tee time for Friday is 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday will feature 9 a.m. shotgun starts. This is always a fun tournament and we expect at least 36 golfers, so get your place early by contacting Gene Kary at (253) 820-3415. Also the best lodging deal in town is Sequim’s Holiday Plaza. You can call the Holiday Plaza tollfree at 1-800-683-1775. The cost is $98 night for two and includes two rounds of golf and a dinner coupon. Don’t miss out! Another Duffer shot a great “Eagle” 3 on the number 10 par 5 hole at Capital City on December 5. Congratulations goes to Scott Hatt! Great Job. “It takes longer to learn to be a good golfer than it does to be a brain surgeon. On the other hand, you don’t get to ride around on a cart, drink beer and eat hot dogs when you are performing brain surgery!” — Milo
Texas Hold’em is over for 2010! I can’t be any plainer than that. On Sunday, December 12, we held our annual Tournament of Champions which was the last game of the year. We had 120 players in it, with nine finalists getting the cash totaling $12,000. Not bad for four hours of concentration, shuffling and some luck. All in all, I was very pleased the way the game progressed. The winners are: First, Ante Manastovic; second, Milan Stipetic; third, Ron Mellick; fourth, Ryan Stone; fifth, Rebecca Cox; sixth, Glen Mellick; seventh, Billy Bostwick; eighth, Roberta Roberts; and Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone ninth, Lauri Garman. who helped and supported the benefit for Laurel. It I can’t begin to thank my volunteers enough. All the helpers were awesome. I can’t mention all your is sure nice to know that we are still “People names, however you know who you are. I have the Helping People.” When you combine the dinner, the generous best helpers in District #7. Players have come to me and said the crew runs the best Texas Hold’em in the donations and the silent auction proceeds together, we raised almost $5,000. Thank you again. area. — Jacki and the Moyer Family Our next tournament will be on Sunday, January 9. As always, sign-up starts at 11 a.m. and cut-off time is 12:45 p.m. The game starts at 1 p.m. Don’t forget your membership card. No card — no play. — Bob Reynolds, Chairman (253) 535-6706 or 230-2308 -5-

Help fight cancer with a snowman! The Snowmen cometh. Once again, with the help of my Brothers and Sisters, we will be having another Cancer fund-raiser. Cute little snowmen will be sold this month, ready to be hung in our newly-refurbished bar, with your name or the names of a loved one on them. We will also be serving up a nice hot bowl of “Hobo Stew!” This is a camp out favorite of Bob and Shireen’s and it is sure to warm you up. It will be served with some rustic bread. The cost will be nominal, and again all proceeds are going to the Cancer Fund, less the costs of putting this dinner on. We are hoping to secure the date of Thursday, January 20 for this dinner. Watch for more to come. I would like to again thank you all for being so generous with my Cancer drive last October and hope once again we can be successful with January’s drive. We plan for all money raised to be kept in our own community where it can help our friends, family and loved ones. Thank you again, — Shireen Ainsworth, Daffodil Auxiliary Cancer Chairman

Elves make Christmas happy for two families We hope you had a merry Christmas, Brothers and Sisters. Another year has passed and once again we made two families very happy with your very generous donations. Thanks to each and every one of you who took a tag from our “Tree of Giving” and purchased a gift. Thanks, too, to those of you who gave cash and especially to those of you (Ted and Mary Jane) who purchased Christmas meals for each of the families we helped. I especially want to say thank you to the following Elves who wrapped, packaged and packed these gifts into the “sleighs” for delivery: Chief Elf Terry Gregory, Loni, Pam, Phyllis, Annette, Judy, Judy P., Penny, Kathy, Virginia, Marsha and the special smaller Elves Garrett and Gracie. With the help of everyone, we are a very powerful group of Elves. Thank you again. — Chief Elf Cathi Mahan
