Happy ear! New Y
January 2010
From Your Madam President
Yes, 2010 is here! Happy New Year! Wow, it is hard to believe 2010 is here! Well, we have to go back to the end of November and say thank you to the volunteers who came out for “Deck the Halls.” The Aerie looked very nice. Thank you to all who helped. Now, thank you to Cathi Mahan and Terry Gregory, for being in charge of making Christmas good for some other family and thanks to the ones who donated. Thank you all. Now we can get on with 2010. In February, we have the Grand Madam President coming On Saturday, February 2. We are excited as this is a great honor to have her. Meetings in January are on the 14th and the 28th. Please come out for a meeting. Our meetings are short, sweet and fun. Thanks again to all the volunteers for all you do!! — Loni Andrews P.S. Remember Laughter is the Best Kind of Medicine!!!
December Oyster Dinner raised more than $2,200! The oyster dinner and silent auction went great in December thanks to you as members for supporting it. This was our 30th year for doing this dinner. The Dinner made more than $1,000 for the Aerie Diabetes Fund and the silent auction made more than $1,200. for the Auxiliary Diabetes Fund. See what the Aerie and Auxiliary can do working together. Thank you again for the help and making this a great success. Watch for the mini-oyster dinners again in January on the second and fourth Wednesdays. — Leonard and Ellen

From Your Worthy President
Happy New Year! Hello brothers and Sisters, I trust and hope that all of you had a very happy and enjoyable holiday season, and that everyone got what you wanted. New Year’s always seems to be a time for resolutions and wishes for things that we would like to change. Some resolve to stop smoking, exercise more, lose weight, or even just to make time for themselves. This year will bring many new challenges for all of us, as well as our nation. For the Eagles, the District #7 Meetings will be starting up again on Sunday, January 10 at Mt. Rainier Aerie in Eatonville. The meeting starts at 10 a.m. and is open for all members to attend. Our Aerie will be hosting the meeting in a couple of months, on Sunday, March 14. I hope to see some of you there. We’ll also be getting ready to check the calendar to plan for the events that we put on for our charities. So, if you or your club has any events that you would like to use the social room for, don’t forget to talk to the Trustees to get your event scheduled. In closing, I would like to share one of my favorite quotes that seems to fit the Eagles’ philosophy of “People Helping People” pretty well. Mahatma Gandhi said, “We must become the change we want to see.” This may mean working harder, giving more, helping others or just doing the right thing when needed. I’m both happy and proud of all of you who work so hard and give so much for our community. Thank you! — Fraternally, Jonas White, Worthy President
A Prosperous 2010 To All Our Brothers & Sisters!
Let’s help Mark again in 2010!!!! Well folks, here we are in another year and raring to go and raise money for our State Outside Guard, Mark Crouchet, as he continues his quest up the state ladder. It isn’t cheap to do this, so we will be having a dinner/raffle/small silent auction and a few other surprises. Hopefully this event will be sometime around March or so. As always we are in need of raffle prizes, spirits, money, baskets, etc. Nothing is too little or big as I can blend related items into baskets. If you can help us out or have ideas, then we would love to hear from you. Thanks for supporting Mark. He does make a difference. I will have more information on this next month. Thanks. — Bob & Mary, (253) 535-6706
It’s for the kids!
Thanks to all you raffle ticket buyers We want to thank everyone who purchased the “Christmas Kiddy Fund” raffle tickets for the 20 turkeys. The names of the winners will be posted in the lobby by the front desk. The money raised from this raffle pays for the Kiddies Christmas Party and the Easter Egg Hunt. The man who started this fund (for the kids) is Kenny Hunt who was my sponsor and mentor. He passed away 10 years ago and we haven’t had this turkey raffle since. But I would like to bring it back, so next year I’ll start selling in November. Thanks all of you who helped sell these tickets. Thank you again. — Eddie Grosso
Texas Hold’em Tournament of Champions features $12,200 jackpot!! $12,200! That’s what 122 players were playing for with nine players walking away with all the money on Sunday, December 13. Four hours and 35 minutes after the start of the game, Don Weeks and Bill Brandon decided to split first and second pine. They each went home with $3223 in their pockets. Don also received a special chip marker that was made and donated by Dave Williams. Thanks again for your generosity. Thanks from the crew for those of you that gave us a tip. It was used to buy a couple rounds of cheers. “Tournament of Champions” winners were: First, Don Weeks, $3,223; second, Bill Brandon, $3,223; third, Paul Thomas, Jr., $1,708; fourth, Craig Hardin, $1,098; fifth, Rick Lunn, $976; sixth, Glen Couture, $732; seventh, Ralf Miethe, $610; eighth, John Bailey, $366; and ninth, Don Janeway, $244. Brad Stevens was the first player out and took home a special deck of cards and a gift certificate from our #2308 Aerie. He was really a good sport about it and the players enjoyed the humor as it loosened up the tension for the players. Our next tournament will be on Sunday, Jan.10. We hope to see all of you players here as we’ll start another 11 months of games for yet another “Tournament of Champions.” As always, I can’t thank my crew enough as I’m just the Texas Hold’em Chairman. It takes the crew to make the games happen. Thanks also to newcomer Aaron Jones for helping out. The Texas Hold’em workers hope all of you had a joyous Christmas and happy New Year. — Bob Reynolds, Chairman (253) 535-6706 or (253) 230-2308

Friends mean so much
Happy New Year! I hope you are all well and happy. Ho, Ho, Ho! Post Merry Christmas, FOE Brothers & Sisters Once again we have gathered together as the close knit family of Brothers and Sisters and have made an “adopted” family very happy with our overwhelming generosity of gift giving. I want to thank my volunteers (Sandy, Phyllis, Joan, Reggie, Kathy, Yvonne, Linda, Donna, Delores, Peggy, Sheila, Vickie, Penny, Ellen and Laurie, and, of course, Chief Elf Terry Gregory) who gave up their Saturday morning to wrap gifts for this family! Busy hands and lips make a task go faster. Sisters, you did an awesome job. The gifts and food donation was delivered that same day. Aerie #2308, the Elves appreciate your generous donations. — Sincerely, Cathi Mahan & Terry Gregory

Polynesian Dinner nets $1,000 for Lakewood!! Our Polynesian Dinner on December 3 quickly turned into a fund-raiser with all net proceeds going to the Lakewood Fallen Officers’ Fund. This fund-raiser became a spur-of-the-moment event that was able to raise approximately $760 from the dinner and donations that evening. With the help from our Auxiliary for another $240, we were able to present the Lakewood Police Guild $1,000 on December 14. At this time of year when there are a lot of activities requesting help and donations, we want to say thank you for your generosity. — Some Volunteers of Daffodil #2308
Date set for fund-raiser Save this date: Sunday, February 20, 2010. We will have a fun night of dancing and a silent auction to raise money for “The Kenny Wilson Scholarship Fund.” More information will be coming in the February newsletter. — Rod Mohr
Grand Madam President to visit Daffodil on Feb. 2 On Tuesday, Feb 2, the Grand Madam President will be visiting Daffodil Auxiliary. We will have a social hour at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. On the menu is meat loaf and all the trimmings for $6. Please come and meet her as she is a very special person. There will be no meeting, just a fun night. We would like to have a big turnout to show her how the Aerie and Auxiliary works together at Daffodil. You may RSVP to the Auxiliary at (253) 7709025 and leave a message so we know how much food to fix. If your plans change, you may just come and join the fun.
Get ready for the Puyallup Eagles first Barbecue Rib Cook-Off scheduled for May 16, 2010. There will be a sign-up sheet at the front desk for anyone wanting to participate in the competition. More information is coming soon. There will be food fun and music! — Dennis Sutter -5-
