Newsletter deadline moved up to July 10 The deadline for our August newsletter has been moved up a few days to accommodate vacation plans. Instead of the regular deadline of July 15, we request that all news items be submitted by July 10. The deadline for the September newsletter will remain the same — August 15. Thanks so much. — Your Editor

Funeral Chairman report

We’re cleaning the closet on August 1 Thanks to everyone who has donated food for the funeral luncheons. We have quite a collection of bowls and containers that have not been picked up. The closet is going to be cleaned out on August 1. Please look in the closet by the back door in the dining room for your container before August 1. Also, if you have worked any of the luncheons and took one of the green aprons home to be washed, will you please return them? Only four of the original 12 we had are here. Thank you. — Your Funeral Chairman

It’s picnic time at Daffodil 2308 It is time again for one of our biggest events of the year. The Daffodil Eagles Picnic will be held on Saturday, July 16. The festivities will begin at 10 a.m. in Bonney Lake at the Swiss Sportsman’s Club again. We will have our picnic area again this year. It includes the large gazebo with all the covered picnic tables. We will be serving hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, curly fries, fresh corn-on-the-cob, and ice cream bars. We will start serving lunch at noon and will continue throughout the day. We will have plenty of beer and pop to go around. There will be kid’s games and prizes starting at 1p.m., an adult horseshoe tournament with a $2 buyin and a blind draw for partners. You will need to sign up by 1p.m. for this event. We will be having a raffle for many great door prizes throughout the day! The tickets will be $1 each and you will have the opportunity to win the grand prize — a flat screen TV!! The price for the picnic will be a $5 charge for all Eagle members, $2 for kids 5 through 20, and $7 for non-Eagle members. These charges are to help cover the cost of food, drinks, prizes and the fee for the property. There will be RV hookups ($10 per night) and tent spaces ($5 per night) available on a first come, first served basis, starting on July 13 through July 17. We will have music throughout the day to entertain you. If you have any donations for the raffle, please label them “For Picnic” and leave with Loni or Jackie. We would greatly appreciate it. Anyone wishing to get involved to help volunteer their time, please contact your Picnic Chairpersons — Denny Sutter or Pat Rivard. We are looking forward to having a fun day!

From Your Worthy President

Don’t miss our Car Show on August 6!!

Let’s put ‘negative gossip’ behind us!! Hello Brothers, I hope that by the time you read this newsletter, it will be warm and sunny. Right now I am writing this in the first part of June and it is cold and wet. Well, we have a new set of Aerie Officers in place, and I expect good thing from all of us. I am especially excited about having three younger Brothers doing their duty and taking officer positions this year. In case you don’t know, they are Dave Andrews who moved up from Chaplain to Worthy Vice President, Kyle Guinn is Chaplain, and Tim Guinn is Outside Guard this year. I hope that they continue through the chairs and become Past Presidents. We need fresh energy and ideas to keep our Aerie alive. We also have five new Trustees: Gary Plumb (chairman), Bernie Gregory (Past Trustee and Past President), Barry Sader, Mike Allen, and Jim Anton. They are new to this position, but are learning quickly. I am going to talk for a moment about more serious matters. The last time I was President I discussed negative gossip. If you spend much time in the bar and dining room, I am sure that you know what I am talking about. Most of the negative gossip comes from a very small group of Brothers and Sisters. This negative gossip is not good for the Aerie. Most of the time the gossip is misunderstood and misguided third-hand information. This negative gossip creates a negative atmosphere in the Aerie and a sense of mistrust and even hurt amongst the Brothers and Sisters. I guess what I am saying, please refrain from spreading hurtful and misguided gossip, and if you do hear this type of gossip, I would hope that you would tell that person that they are creating a negative atmosphere in our Aerie (our home away from home). Ninety-eight per cent of our troubled Aeries are created because of negative and misguided gossip. I hope that all of my Brothers and Sisters have a happy Fourth of July. Remember, don’t drink too much, don’t eat too much, and don’t blow anything off. — Keith Stubblefield, Your Worthy President

Mark your Calendars for Saturday, August 6. We are having our Annual Car Show. We have so much fun this day — and yes, it is on a Saturday. If you have a car to register, please call Loni at (253) 845-5021. We will have lunch, dinner, dancing and lots of fun.

Texas Hold’em

110 players vie for Fathers’ Day pot!! The sunshine brought in 110 players on Sunday, June 12, hoping to win an early Fathers’ Day present — and nine did just that. The June winners were: First, Bubba Skiles; second, Paul Morgan; third, Michael Bailey; fourth, Liliana Garceia; fifth, Tyler Tripp; sixth, Gaylen Homestead; seventh, Connie Sullivan; eighth, Dennis Hayes; and ninth, Rory Hawkins. The pot was $2,750 — not too shabby for a day out having fun. Congratulations to Ben Sheperd following the birth of his new baby girl, Brooklyn. Dona Knox has joined our volunteer team and we are happy to have her. Many, many thanks to the crew for all their hard work in helping to make Aerie #2308 the choice of players to come and enjoy a good, clean card game. Remember players, you cannot take drinks out of the building as this is a state violation and not a Texas Hold’em rule. Our next game will be on Sunday, July 10. We hope to see you then. — Bob Reynolds, Chairman (253) 535-6706 or (253) 230-2308

From Your Madam President

Daffodil Duffers

Kathy is off to a great start in ’11

Mark your calendars for great tourneys!!!

Hello Sisters, Brothers, Friends & Family, As I am writing this second newsletter article, it is late and the Auxiliary just finished our first initiation meeting with the new officers for the 2011-2012 year. Our first meeting went well, considering all of the new officers took their new chairs for the first time. We had 10 new members being initiated, and I would personally like to welcome all of them as our new Sisters. Please come again and join in on the fun and work that we are involved in for the good of the Auxiliary and Aerie. I would like to thank everyone who made the Joint Officers Installation such a fun and successful event. Thanks to the crew that made some of the decor and decorated the hall and dining room, to the cooks, servers, waitresses, bar tenders, cocktail servers, music man, dish washer, janitor, manager and all of the Grand Installing officers and speakers, cake servers, guest book attendant, photographer and everyone who joined in to watch, support and just dance and have a good time. Thanks to my family for all of the support and being with me during this special day. My heartfelt thanks to our new Auxiliary officers, and chairmen who will be serving you this year. May we have a good time, raise lots of money for our charities and work closely together with the Aerie. Thanks also to our Auxiliary Mother of the Year, Karleen Howard, who has been a great help in getting this new year off to a good start. Our Honorary Father of the Year is my dad, Dave Sutter, a past 35-plus year member of the Aerie. Our new officers are: Junior Past Madam President — Penny Fiedler President — Kathy Crouchet Vice President — Loni Andrews Chaplain — Virginia Storlie Conductor — Renee Smith Secretary — Ellen Blakely Treasurer — Gerri Cowling Inside Guard — Shireen Ainsworth Outside Guard — Phyllis Dickson Trustee — Lori Downhour Trustee — Marcia McNall Trustee — Linda Miller

The month of August will be very busy with lots of fun. First is the Duffers Club Championship! It will be held at Lakeland Village Golf Course on August 6 and 7. This is a two-round tournament with winners in both net and gross scores. There will also be a practice round for those of us who need it on Friday, August 5. Don Proctor and Denny Wakin, last year’s champions, are in charge and will have more details next month. Second will be the ever-popular Joe Hatcher Memorial Golf Tournament to be held on Sunday August 21 at Lake Cushman Golf Course in Hoodsport. Again there will be a practice round on Saturday, August 20. Last year’s winners, Herman Dirk, John Ham, John Parker and Ron Johnson, will be co-chairmen for this year’s tournament. Again, there will be more details next month. So mark you’re calenders and sharpen up you’re game and have a ton of fun! “A good drive on the 18th hole has stopped many a golfer from giving up the game.” — Milo

From your Madam President Continued from previous column Keep tabs on the calendar, join in on the fun and work as there is much to choose from — find what works for you! Please try to join us for our meetings which are held on the second and fourth Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. Keep Smiling! Love and Luck, — Kathy Crouchet, Your Madam President

Daffodil Roamers News

RV’ers are on the move this summer The first weekend in June found our group down in Woodland, Washington, right on the Columbia River. It was a beautiful location, clubhouse and scenery. We could not have asked for nicer weather for relaxing, visiting, fishing and sightseeing. Friday afternoon the guys played “golf” while the women cheered them on. That evening we had a fantastic potluck out on the deck of the clubhouse, watching the large ships traveling up and down the river. On Saturday we broke into small groups and went sightseeing. One of the places of interest is called the Cedar Creek Grist Mill where we crossed the Cedar Creek through a beautiful old covered bridge. At the Mill we had two wonderful instructors who told us about the history about the mill and proceeded to grind fresh corn, wheat kernels, and red Russian wheat into cornmeal, cake flour and bread flour. Everyone was given free samples of the flour to take home and enjoy making some goodies with the recipes that were also supplied. Our Fourth of July weekend will be spent at the

home of Janet and Ray Newby located just outside the Sumner city limits. We usually have 14 to 18 rigs parked in their field. We will be grilling up steaks for all of us, courtesy of the RV Club, while enjoying the fireworks display from the surrounding neighborhoods. On July 14 through 23, you will find us traveling around the Olympic Peninsula to the Port Townsend Elks, Shadow Mountain RV Resort in Port Angeles, and Sunrise Resort in Copalis. August is our annual trek to the Gig Harbor Eagles for their Buffalo Feed festivities. Please find the time to attend our next monthly meeting. The next one is on Tuesday, July 5 at 7 p.m., upstairs above the dining room. There you will meet the nicest group of people who are a lot of fun to travel around this beautiful state that we live in. If you have any questions, please contact me, Sheron Mozzone, Secretary, at (360) 893-5671. I’ll be glad to answer any questions you may have. — Sheron Mozzone, Secretary Daffodil Roamers RV Club
