DAFFODIL NEWS Puyallup, WA Aerie #2308
Volume 60, No. 3
March, 2011 From Your Madam President
Spring is in the air Spring is right around the corner. I cannot wait for all the daffodils to start blooming. Speaking of spring, we will be having our nominations of officers in April. If you are interested in running for an office or helping chair a committee or just want to help with our many charities, please see or ask one of the current officers and they can answer your questions or lead you to the right person to talk to. I would like to thank everyone who donated money for the Heart Fund. All the hearts hanging in the lounge look so wonderful knowing they represent money for the Heart Fund. I would like to thank Loni Andrews (Auxiliary Heart Chairman) and Bernie Gregory (Aerie Heart Chairman) for all their help in putting on all the Heart Fund functions. The Sweetheart Ball was enjoyed by all. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed having their pictures taken with their sweetheart. The king and queen crowned for the night was King Dave Haas and Queen Llim Minnick. I would like to thank everyone who helped with the Sweetheart Ball, the Heart Fund Dinner and the raffle. This was the first time John Remy had cooked a dinner. It was so good. He did an excellent job. The Aerie and Auxiliary worked side-by-side for the same cause and it was so much fun! I do not have a total on what we made, but I will post it when the figures are tallied. Just a reminder that we are hosting the District #7 Meeting on Sunday, March 13. It would be great to see a big turn out from our Auxiliary. There will be a joint meeting at 10 a.m. and then we split off at 11 a.m. for separate Aerie and Auxiliary meetings. It is usually over by noon. Please try and make it. It’s a lot of fun to meet other Sisters from other Auxiliaries in our District. Keep those positive thoughts coming and remember to always treat each other how you would want to be treated. — Penny Fiedler, Madam President “ It was only a sunny smile and little it cost in the giving, but it scattered the night like morning light, and made the day worth living”

If you have been an Auxiliary member more than 20 years, you are invited to a membership lunch on Sunday, March 27 at 1 p.m. We will be giving out service pins at this lunch. If you did not get a letter, please contact the Auxiliary at (253) 770-9025. We must have a RSVP so we can have enough food for everyone. — Ellen Blakely, Madam Secretary And Loni Andrews, Membership Chairman

Courtesy is our byword In this article, we would like to talk about something very important – courtesy. All Aerie and Auxiliary members deserve the same courtesy as another. Remember Rule #4 posted in the lounge: The use of foul/vulgar and profane language in the Aerie is prohibited. We all need to be reminded of this every so often. That kind of language is rude and hurtful to others and no one should have to listen to it. So please be courteous to your fellow Brothers and Sisters and so not use such language; remember, there can be consequences to your actions! Thank you and enjoy your Aerie! — Your Aerie Trustees
Help fight cancer with Shamrocks & dinner!! Once again, I will be having my final push to raise both money and awareness to our fight against cancer. Shamrocks will be sold during the first two weeks of March, and the Leprechauns will be hangin’ them up with your names on them. It doesn’t matter if your Irish or not — come down and support the dinner and silent auction for cancer on Sunday, March 13. With the help of my husband Bob and his crew, we will be serving open faced hot beef sandwiches and all the trimmings for $8 from 3 to 6 p.m. I am looking for help with running the silent auction, as well as securing donations for it. Please see Bob, Loni or myself if you’d like to donate. All the money we’ve collected this year will be staying right here in our own community! I’d like to thank everyone for all your generous support this year. I’ve really appreciated it beyond words. — Shireen Ainsworth, Auxiliary Cancer Chairman

St. Patty’s Party planned We have a St. Patty’s Day Party planned on Thursday, March 17. A corned beef and cabbage dinner will be served from 4:30 to 7 p.m. for $8 per person. You never know what else might happen.
PLEASE FOLLOW THE RULES Please remember this is your Aerie. We have rules to follow — not only our House Rules, but city, state and federal rules. When an employee asks you not to do something or to please not drive, we are not doing this for our good, but for the Aerie and for your own good. Please help us out and be somewhat cooperative and do so. We don’t like to see our customers in trouble and we will do our best to keep you out of trouble. Thank you. — Loni A., Manager

If I could only be Irish All you who are Irish and all of us who wish we were Irish will be looking for green beer and corned beef and cabbage this month. Try to keep a cool head and don’t get arrested. The REAC Convention will be at the South Tacoma Eagles on April 15, 16 and 17. If you wish to attend, get in touch with one of the officers. Come and join us for food and fun at your REAC club. See you there! — Joyce Louderback, Reporter
Two Eagles shoot two ‘Eagles’ at Brookdale By the time this newsletter is out, the Puyallup Eagles Duffers will have played the winter golf tournament at 7 Cedars at Dungeness in Sequim. So if you have started to hear a lot of fun harassment between Duffers, the real truth will be printed in next month’s newsletter. I don’t know how they do it, but two more Duffers shot “eagles.” Last month John Pfaff shot his “eagle” at Brookdale Golf Club on hole #2, Par 4, 379 yards. That’s in the cup in two shots. This month, Gene Kary, better known as “Mr. Chicken Legs,” shot an “eagle,” also at Brookdale Golf Club on hole #8 Par 5, 514 yards. That’s in the cup in three shots. Congratulations to both Duffers! “The score (or handicap) a player reports should always be regarded as his opening offer!” — Milo -5-

Breakfast trivia!!
Valentine’s game makes nine players very happy
Did you know?? • It takes 40 volunteers to man the kitchen and dining room each Month? Special thank you to all who get up early on Sunday mornings to do this. • We compiled this for five weeks in January, 2011. Here are some interesting numbers about eight common food items: • We used 1,962 eggs, 751 pounds of bacon, 751 pounds of ham, 280 sausage links, 768 slices of bread, 2,071 pounds of hash browns, 24 gallons of orange juice, and 792 coffee cups filled with 170 pots of coffee which equals $1,700 cups. And last, but not least, we served 725 customers. If you are a customer, which we all are, appreciate the volunteers for their time and effort. They get up early to serve you and the public. Thanks to all of you who support our breakfast. — Your Kitchen Crew!!
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, 110 Texas Hold’em players wanted to win and buy their sweethearts a love token. It was a good clean game on Sunday, February 13. Nine winners took the money and ran. The winners are: First, Christofer Keifer; second, Tim Shea; third, Gary Thompson; fourth, Betty Lopez; fifth, Josh Hirshy; sixth, Ante Matanovic; seventh, Paul Thomas, Jr.; eighth, Shane Kissner; and ninth, Michael Allen. You players are the greatest and we thank you for supporting our Aerie. Thank you once again to the volunteers for all the hours you put in to keep our Texas Hold’em the number one place to play cards. The next game is on Sunday, March 20 and not on the 13th. We hope to see you on March 20! — Bob Reynolds, Texas Hold’em Chairman (253) 535-6706 or (253) 230-2308
