From Your Madam President
Flying Pigs will be landing soon It doesn’t seem possible that my year is almost over. The “Flying Pigs” are getting tired and seem to want to come in for a landing. They are not quite done yet, so I told them to hold on a little bit longer!! We had an awesome past two months with new Sisters being initiated. We had 35 in March and 40 in April. It is great to see so many new faces. Thanks to Loni Andrews, my Membership Chairman for all of her hard work. I do believe we have made quota for the year. Thanks to everyone who helped make this possible. In April, the District #7 Meeting was held in Wilkeson. There were 13 Auxiliary Sisters who attended. Thanks to all of you for coming. We tied Auburn for the “Trophy Snowman,” so we got to take it home!! He enjoyed the ride home in the van! A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped fill the Easter eggs. It was a great turnout and it took no time at all. I am sure all the kids enjoyed getting lots of eggs full of candy. Thanks to Lori Downhour for all she has done this year with all the kid programs. She has done an outstanding job! I would like to give a huge thank you to Loni Andrews and Ellen Blakely for hosting the 20+ year membership luncheon. It was a huge success and the food was wonderful. It was so nice to see a lot of the older members. You both did such a great job! Remember — we are “People Helping People.” There is no better gratification!! — Penny Fielder, Madam President “A good word is an easy obligation; but not to speak ill requires only our silence, which costs us nothing.”
Happy Anniversary, Aerie!

Come on down and help install Kathy and Keith Hi Brothers and Sisters, It’s that time of year again. You know, when the flowers come out and we start thinking about the birds and the bees. Oh yes, and Installation of Aerie and Auxiliary Officers for 2011 and 2012 are coming up, too. The date for the Installation of Sister Kathy Crouchet and me is set for Sunday, May 22 at 2 p.m. We would like all of you to be here. I don’t know what is for dinner. Youth Activities Fund sends out a big thanks What a day we had at our club on Sunday, April 17!! Four wonderful “family themed” baskets were donated, including two “Movie Night” baskets, complete with a movie, popcorn and candy. We also received an “Ice Cream Social” basket with all the fixings for sundaes — including the scoop (minus the ice cream!); and a kid’s activity basket complete with color and puzzle books, sport balls and other fun items. We made $275 on the raffle, plus another $75 in donations — plus the proceeds from the awesome burgers! This money will go to the Washington State Junior Eagles for their convention in June. These youngsters are our future Eagles!! We are proud to help provide funds to help them succeed! Karaoke with Matt was a lot of fun! (Who knew we had some pretty good singers within our club?) — Robin Sheffer, Auxiliary Youth Activities Chairman
Brothers and Sisters: I am writing once again to inform you about the upcoming food drive put on by the National Association of Letter Carriers and the U.S.Postal Service. During the week of May 9-14, you will once again notice cards and bags placed in your mail boxes. This food drive has been happening for many years and continues to help stock locally-run food banks in communities throughout the nation. Last year this food drive raised more 50,000 pounds of food here in Puyallup. With the unemployment rate still at all time highs, many families are having a tough time, and Retired Eagles Activities Club many food banks are being depleted at a record pace. We all can agree that here at the Eagles, we are about helping. With this in mind, I hope that we can all fill our bags on May 14 and place them at the mail Sunshine!! What a concept! We’ve had so much box with non-perishable goods and help our local rain, wind and other crummy weather, a little sunshine food banks to continue to help those in need within would be appreciated. Daffodil Roamers News
New officers take the reins of our RV club! The April meeting of the Daffodil Roamers RV club was called to order by President Jay Robinson with several guests in attendance and a few returning snowbirds back from down south. New members, Judy and Hal Dufilko and Bob LaFontaine, joined the group and were given a warm welcome. April was election month and we are thankful to those who have stepped forward to make sure that we have officers for the group. We re-elected Jay Robinson as President, Mike Mozzone as Vice-President, and Anne Johnson as Treasurer. The hardest job in our group is our Wagon Master and we are pleased to have elected Ray Newby to fill this position. Ray will work with Bill Bell, our current Wagon Master, to schedule the future RV Outing Calendar for 2012. Of course, we have a lot of outings yet for this current year as Bill has worked very hard to add a lot of new places for us to travel to in our RV’s through the month of October. In May we will be traveling to
Winthrop in eastern Washington for the 49’er Festival and fishing at Pearrygin Lake. In June we will head south to Woodland along the Columbia River. Our Mission Statement of the Daffodil Roamers RV Club is: “We are a group of Eagles Members who get together to camp and have fun in our RV’s. We take care of our own and others.” This month we made a donation to the Eagle Valley Campground. This campground, located on more than 40 acres near Cle Elum, has more than 100 campsites and is owned by the Washington State FOE. It is open for camping from May 1 to September 30 and is waiting for all Eagles to enjoy it with their families. Check out www.eaglevalley.eagleswa.org for more information. The Daffodil Roamers meet upstairs on the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Check us out if you like camping in your RV. — Lillian McGinnis, Daffodil Roamers Past President

Help fight cancer and get free gas!! Stayed tuned, but I am hoping to have a raffle for three $50 gas cards on Saturday, May 14. Who couldn’t use a tank full of gas for a donation to the Auxiliary Cancer Fund? It will be a win-win situation for us all. As of this writing, I am waiting for approval from the Aerie Trustees, so watch for further advertisements yet to come once the cards are approved. — Shireen Ainsworth, Auxiliary Cancer Chairman
