From Your Madam President

November and the holidays are here! It is hard to believe it is November already! This is the busiest time of the year for everyone. Please mark you calendars for Thursday, November 8. Our State Madam President comes to Daffodil that evening. Then on Thursday, November 15, we have a business meeting. Please Sisters, if you haven t been to a meeting come on down and attend. The meetings start at 7:30 p.m. We have a Holiday Bazaar this month on Sunday, November 4. Thank you to all the chairmen who have stepped forward. Please remember as the weather changes to check on friends and family who are home-bound Happy Thanksgiving to all! Remember, laughter is the best kind of medicine! Loni Andrew, Madam President

those less fortunate Brothers and Sisters, The holiday season is upon us once more. As we gather with our family and friends, let us not forget those less fortunate. As a joint project of the Aerie and Auxiliary, we will be collecting non-perishable food items for our local food bank, so the next time you are at the grocery store or are looking through your pantry, please think of those in our community struggling to make ends meet. This food bank also has a program to bring joy to the little ones by providing a new toy to those who otherwise might go without this Christmas. So in addition to food, you can make donations of new, unwrapped toys suitable for ages 0-12 years old. Remember, a small donation by you can go a long way in helping a child deal with today s tough times. We are People Helping People! Dave and Loni Andrews, Your Aerie and Auxiliary Presidents

New Year s Eve tickets go on sale New Year s Eve tickets will go on sale Wednesday, November 7 after the Aerie meeting. This year the music will be by Reckless. Tickets are $35 per person or $60 per couple. The dinner menu yet to be determined.

Remember Our Veterans!

From Your Worthy President

Be careful during the fall gray gloom Brothers and Sisters, The warm rays of the summer sun have left us once again and gray gloom has moved in for another fall and winter. Remember as you drive and walk through town that visibility can be greatly reduced in these conditions, so be careful! I mention this because one of our Aerie Brothers was hit while crossing the street one evening. Tragedies like this need not happen if we slow down and look out for each other. An extra five minutes of your life is not worth the chance of ruining the life of another.

TREAT OUR BROTHERS & SISTERS WITH THE RESPECT THEY DESERVE On another note of concern, the vast majority of our members come to our home away from home to relax with friends, have a drink or dinner and have a good time in a safer environment than that of an ordinary bar (just one of the benefits or our great fraternity.) Do not let those few who spread rumors and spew derogatory comments towards our staff or other members dissuade you from enjoying your Aerie. Be assured that they are in the minority. Such behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. As members of this fraternity, you have the right to let them know that their actions are unwelcome. Remember that if we put a fraction of the effort we put into dragging each other down into improving our Aerie, our fraternity would be a much better place. So come down, have fun, enjoy yourself and remember to treat our Brothers and Sisters with the respect and friendship they deserve so we can all be proud to be a member Daffodil #2308. Dave Andrews, Worthy President

Time to winterize the RV or head for the sun

Are you ready? Are you sure you are ready? Because guess what is around the corner? Thanksgiving and Christmas!! There will be plenty of cooking, relatives from out-of-state, shopping, mall traffic and nasty cold ugly weather!!! So for members of the Puyallup Eagles Daffodil Roamers RV Club, it s time to either go south with the snowbirds or winterize the RV. Our trip in September to Prosser was a wonderful trek with weather that was perfect. There were lots of wineries and good company. October 11-14 found us on the Olympic Peninsula staying in Hoods Port at Rest-A-While Resort. We dug for oysters on the beach and took a few side trips up and down the canal. The following weekend, October 18-21, we were at the Teamster RV Resort over on Harstene Island. As usual, we had a relaxing time just enjoying each other s company and the beautiful scenery. Our next get-together will be for our annual ChristPublished monthly by the Puyallup, Washington mas party on Tuesday, December 4. It will start at 6 p.m. (instead of our usual starting time of 7 p.m.). Daffodil Aerie #2308 Bring an appetizer or dessert to add to our table. Fraternal Order of Eagles We would like to extend our holiday greetings to in the interest of Eagledom, for and about our Brothers and Sisters for a healthy and safe season the Eagles in the Daffodil Aerie. and happy 2013 New Year. A word of thanks

Some thoughts from a fellow ‘Flocker’!!!

Flockers raised $6,600 for our Cancer Fund!!

This was my first time working a fund-raiser for the Auxiliary — and how rewarding it was! When I first proposed the “Flocking” idea at a meeting I had no idea how it would snowball. I would personally like to thank Shireen Ainsworth, our Cancer Fund Chairman, and the Ladies Auxiliary for agreeing to try out this outlandish idea and for their confidence and support. I would also like to thank our team of Flockers: Bob and Shireen Ainsworth, Tausha and Jason Ostenson, Gary Plumb and Carol Walther, Jennifer Sokolowski as my fill in a few times, and last but not least, my other half, Marty Solis, for putting up with Flocking seven days a week, for taking great pictures to share with all of you on our Eagles Facebook Page and for his patience. I would also like to thank my longtime friend Yvonne Brown for securing the Puyallup Herald newspaper interview for Shireen and myself. This whole project involved not just our Aerie, but the community as well. There are so many people and businesses that dug deep in their wallets to support this worthy cause. I wish I had room here to list everyone involved — you know who you are and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts! So for now, our flock of Flamingos are hibernating until next year. They are mighty tired and deserve a good rest! — Deb Andersen, Co-Flocking Attendant

This is probably like a re-run of my letter last month, but I would just like to offer once again a huge thank you to everyone who was involved with the Flamingo Flocking for Cancer! As of this writing, we officially raised $6,600 for our Auxiliary Cancer Fund! This can only happen in an Aerie and community,of people who are in service to others! From the bottom of my heart, I thank each and every one of you who made this possible: Deb Anderson, my co-chairman for this event, for her inspiring idea and positive energy; Marty for his support and pictures; and Yvonne Brown for her help and for buying some of the signs and getting us the interview with the Herald! To Tausha and Jason, Gary and Carol, and my hubby Bob, you were the best “Flockers” ever. A special thanks to our friend Pat over at the Chalet Tavern for her special fund-raiser! This is about as much as we raise in the entire year! Partner Oncology, here in Puyallup, will be pretty excited with the check we will present at the end of our term next year! Also, thanks to those who are continuing to support our Auxiliary Cancer Fund and made donations for all the pumpkins, ghosts and witches that we hung in the bar last month. . . Oh My! — Humbly yours, Shireen Ainsworth, Auxiliary Cancer Chairman

32 Duffers enjoy some great golf and pizza! This year’s Memorial Golf Tournament was held at Madrona Golf Course in Gig Harbor on September 30. Thirty-two Daffodil Duffers played this individual net game. Winners are as follows: • 1st Place — Net Score 63: Larry McKillip. • 2nd Place — Tie at 64: Robert Farnam and John Muller. • 4th Place — Tie at 65: Ron Johnson and John Parker. • 6th Place — 67: Jerry Reed. • 7th Place — Tie at 68: Don Hughes, Jim Collyer, Gene Kary and Denny Wakin. • 11th Place— Tie at 69: Ron Griffin, Don MacDonald, Dave Helle and Roy Miller. • 15th Place — Tie at 70: Paul Mielbrecht, Paul

Eckhardt and Milo White. We all gathered at the Clover Leaf Tavern for some great pizza. Then everyone collected their prize money. A big thank you is extended to Gene Kary, Don Hughes and Jeff Marlow for another great tournament. Next, co-chairmen Bill Bostwick and Dave Helle are putting together a Turkey Shoot Tournament scheduled for November 18, the Sunday before Thanksgiving. All Duffers have a chance to win turkey for their family Thanksgiving dinner. “When you look up and cause an awful shot, you will always look down again at exactly the moment when you ought to start watching the ball if you ever want to see it again.” — Milo
