Make A Difference Through Operation Eagle Give our troops the holiday cheer they deserve through the 2012 Operation Eagle program. Our donations period runs throughout the month of September. The Grand Aerie will be accepting new items, as well as monetary donations. Monetary donations are preferred as they allow us to purchase items specific to the needs of each individual recipient. Each of this year's seven recipients will receive a care package in recognition of their service. Idaho Falls, Idaho Idaho Falls Eagles #576 joined with the local Elks lodge to present checks worth $2,200 to both the Haven Shelter and the City of Refuge. The money was raised during the groups' 7th Annual Joint Golf Tournament held in July. The Haven Shelter is a division of Eastern Idaho Community Action Partnership and provides transitional housing and support for homeless families and single women. The City of Refuge offers similar services for men. Pictured, l to r, are Worthy President Justin King, Haven Shelter Manager Ann Johnson and Elks' Exalted Ruler Brian Petersen.

Osborn, Arizona During the 2012 Arizona State Convention Talent Show, Osborn Aerie & Auxiliary #2843 performed a Red Solo Cup Act and raised $207 for the State President's Project Diamond Children's Medical Center. Lake Havasu City, Arizona Lake Havasu City Aerie & Auxiliary #4299 held its inaugural event for the Carl Frake's Memorial Scholarship Fund and raised $1,200 in proceeds. Every year at the evening of excellence for local high schools, scholarships are awarded to 10 students and dispersed in August to the various colleges they are attending. The Eagles also raffled off a gift basket loaded with all kinds of goodies, raising $2,300.

Greenville, Michigan The Eagles of Greenville #4321 recently held a Steak Fry dinner, raising $430 for "Toys for Tots," the charity of Worthy President Scott Yeoman.

Cheviot, Ohio Four Cincinnati-area Aeries recently joined forces to raise money for World War II veterans with their second annual Honor Run for Honor Flight Tri-State, which raises money to fly vets to Washington, D. C., to visit the memorial created in honor of their service. Cheviot #2197 organized the Honor Run and with help from Miami Valley #1395, Hamilton West #3986 and Mt. Healthy #2193 raised $3,461 for the program.

Marlborough, Massachusetts Mayor Arthur Vigeant declared Marlboro Eagles #3565 the Grand Marshals of the annual Labor Day Parade. Since inception, the Eagles have been involved with the Marlborough Public Library, the Boys & Girls Club, the Marlborough Senior Center and many other groups. They sponsor several youth sports programs and, for more than 20 years, have sponsored Cub Scout Pack #31. Marlboro #3565 has presented more than $100,000 in scholarships to local students over the years and have sponsored seven local Eagle Scouts.

Dickinson, North Dakota Dickinson Aerie & Auxiliary #2328 recently presented a check for $1,000 to Home on the Range, which has once again been named the Dakota State Charity for the year. Home on the Range is a therapeutic facility for abused and neglected adolescents.

Three Rivers, Michigan Thanks to the members of Three Rivers #2303, local students started the school year with a new pair of shoes. Through its Ninth Annual Stepping Into School With New Shoes program, the Eagles gave away nearly 300 pairs of new shoes outside of the Three Rivers Wal-Mart.

Leominster, Massachusetts Leominster #477 contributed $2,000 to the Fidelity Bank SHINE Initiative, which aims to shine a light on the mental health of children and young adults. Bank employees sported pedometers tracking the distances walked each day and worked to gain pledges for their distances traveled. In addition to Leominster's donation, an additional $7,021.25 was generously contributed by The Fraternal Order of Eagles.

St. Marys, Georgia St. Marys #4379 made a big splash at the 2012 International Convention. The group sent Katerina Stagl to Grand Rapids to participate in the God, Flag & Country International Oratory Competition where she placed first in the 12-13 age category. St. Marys also put together the top money winner for The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center Live Auction. The Radio Flyer wagon put together by Andy Aanderud included countless goodies, an autographed Paula Deen cookbook, a beautiful Eagle statue and generated $3,275 to support diabetes! Thanks to the Georgia State Aerie & Auxiliary and F.O.E. #4379 and #714 for their hard work.

Pueblo, Colorado Colorado's Waldo Canyon Fire tragically swept through the state this past summer as the worst fire in state history. More than 17,000 acres were burned, 347 structures were lost and 10,000 citizens were left without a home. Pueblo Eagles #145 partnered with Andrews Food and Fellowship of the Rockies to assist victims, providing $1,500 in food donations. The Auxiliary donated $250 to Care and Share of Pueblo. The partnership has raised more than $12,000 to date.

Pueblo Junior Order of Eagles Pueblo #145 recently installed its newest officers to the Junior Order of Eagles group Charter #1 there. Members meet twice a month and officers include Chaplain Joshua Glenn David Rice, Trustee Thomas C. Rice, President William Cruz, Secretary Shaynee Charboneau, Conductor Summer McClary, Treasurer Amaya Charboneau, Vice President Kiesean McClary and Member Kornel McClary.

Virginia The Washington Redskins' 80th Anniversary Tour Bus helped kickstart the 2012 Virginia Stat Convention at Shenandoah Valley #4150 in Harrisonburg, Va. In attendance were various retired players, one current player and Redskins cheerleaders. Outgoing Worthy State President Dee Howdyshell and many others helped organize the Hospitality Picnic.

British Columbia

The British Columbia Provincial Auxiliary made a donation of $1,000 to the Arthritis Society. Pictured, l to r, are Provincial Madam Inside Guard Shirley Hunt, Chemainus/Crofton #4400 President Wendy Slee, a rep from the Arthritis Society and Junior Past President Ferne Brown.

Arcadia, Florida Arcadia #3731 recently made a pair of contributions to help community citizens. Eagles donated $1,200 cash and $2,950 in food, clothing, diapers and miscellaneous items to the Safe Children Coalition for DeSoto County, a center for abused and neglected children. Members sold raffle baskets, vegetable baskets and held food functions to raise funds. They also campaigned continually for donations of baby formula, underwear and hygiene products throughout the year. On July 14, during an event to raise funds for Aerie improvements, the group raised $250 worth of clothing, shoes, purses and diaper bags for the Center for the Need of Arcadia.

St. Marys, Georgia St. Marys #4379 presented a check for $1,000 to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network for pancreatic cancer research in memory of Captain Jim Weathers. Capt. Weathers was a loyal member of the local Aerie and very active and well respected in our community. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in November 2010 and passed away on June 27, 2011.His wife Cheryl, daughters Cindy Marr and Michelle Stephens and grand-daughter Madison Stephens are shown in the photo receiving the presentation from St. Marys Fraternal Order of Eagles Worthy President Wayne Souder.

South Gate, California The Eagles of South Gate #2080 recently raised $245 to support Leukemia research.

Kennett, Missouri Bootheel Eagles #3715 of Kennett, Mo., recently celebrated their 36 year anniversary with a party at the Aerie featuring Missouri State Presidents Rick Labbee and Barbara Cornine. Marceline, Missouri Marceline #726 held its 3rd Annual Jennie's Run charity poker run event to benefit The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center at the University of Iowa. The event raised nearly $4,000 for the cause.

Washougal, Washington The Eagles of Washougal #4390 held their second annual Veterans Affairs fundraiser, bringing in $5,089.46 to purchase bottled water, bus passes, cleaning agents, personal hygiene products, care packages for local troops stationed abroad and more.

San Jose, California San Jose Eagles #8 recently raised $1,790 to benefit area children this holiday season through their annual Christmas in July event. The money will be split equally between the San Jose Eagles' annual Children's Shopping Spree in December and the Children's Shelter, for which the Auxiliary will use the money to buy toys. The group also held a fundraiser for the Blind Babies Foundation, bringing in $500 for the cause. Blind Babies provides assistance and education services to infants and preschoolers who are blind or visually impaired.

Grand Junction, Colorado Grand Junction #595's 3rd Annual Bikers Against Diabetes motorcycle ride raised $772 for The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center.

Fredericksburg, Virginia The Eagle Riders of Fredericksburg #4123 raised $1,800 during a Cancer Ride motorcycle event in July. The money will be split between two local Hospice groups.
