From Your Worthy President
GWP David Tice with us on Aug. 21
Brothers, By the time you read this our picnic will be history. Thanks to Melissa Holz for stepping up to the plate and taking charge at the last minute. Also, thanks to Loni Andrews who always comes through for us. Melissa has already agreed to be picnic chairman next year and she will do a great job having a full year to plan ahead. We will be honored to have the Grand Worthy President, David Tice, visiting our Aerie on August 21. We will have a Polynesian dinner at 6 p.m. Our meeting and initiation is at 7:30 p.m. I want to say thank you to Jonas White for coaching the chair officers in their ritual and thanks to the chair officers for taking the time to come to the ritual practice. Hopefully we are back on track to becoming the number one ritual team in the state. Have a great rest of the summer. Come to an Aerie meeting and get in on our attendance drawing. John Westlund won a $50 gift certificate at our July 17 meeting. — Fraternally, A retirement party for Jon Loppe will be held on Leonard Blakely, Worthy President the main floor and bar on Saturday August 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. (or later if you want) and all Puyallup Eagle members are welcome! For your entertainment, the popular “Southbound Band” (Southern Rock) will be performing from 4 to 8 p.m. Bar baskets for dinner will be available for purchase during the same time frame (no other food will be available from the dining room). There will also be a 50/50 raffle with half the proceeds going to the ALS Fund (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Whether you know Jon or not, please come and celebrate with him and help fight ALS! Thank you. — Judy & Jon Loppe

Eagle Riders are Cancer Fund off and running!! Big thanks from Shireen Brothers and Sisters, I am very happy to inform you that members of the Eagle Riders have held their third meeting. We were able to finalize our By-Laws which were accepted by the Aerie and have officers in place. Our new officers are: Vice President Buck Mann, Secretary/Treasurer Kristina Scholtz, and Road Captains Mark Hines and Mark Reetz. We also had enough membership dues and members to apply for our charter. We are still taking applications as they come in. Our meetings will be held on the second Tuesday of each month, upstairs at 6:30 p.m. If you have any questions or want to join, we hope to see you. Although we are still in the building stages, I feel that we have a good start on a great group of like-minded people who enjoy motor vehicles of all kinds. I look forward to the growth and fellowship that will rise from our efforts, and look forward to working with the other clubs of the Aerie. Just a reminder that “dew rags” are considered hats and can not be worn in the dining room.
Cancer fund raiser coming this autumn We are tentatively scheduling a cancer fund-raising spaghetti and fried chicken dinner for Monday, October 14.We will settle on a date with Big Jim Centoni regarding a suitable date and silent auction for our Aerie Cancer Fund-raiser to continue a function that has been a success for many years. In the past years Big Jim has chaired this dinner on his own, but this year Bob Ainsworth will assist and hopefully help in making this dinner continue to be one of the Daffodil Aerie’s top events. We will update the actual date sometime in August or September. We are looking forward to serving you. — Jim Centoni and Bob Ainsworth
I just want to take a minute and thank everyone who has supported the Auxiliary Cancer Fund for the past three years! What a generous and giving club we are! We have raised more than $21,000 over these three years, and we have done it during grave financial times, with many of you on fixed incomes. I promised the money would stay in Puyallup, and it has! I hope it has gone to help some of our members, loved ones and friends. I will not be the Cancer Fund Chairman this next year as I needed some time off to be able to babysit full time for two of our great-grandchildren. The past six months were a challenge trying to watch them — ages 3 and 5 — and also trying to do some great fund raising for the Auxiliary. I enjoyed doing all the fun stuff, and I can’t tell you how rewarding it was to present that check to the Good Samaritan Cancer Foundation on July 14. They were so appreciative and are very endeared to our club for our contributions. Although I am chairing a couple of other things that won’t be as time consuming, I will be happy to do this again in the future! My heartfelt thanks, again, for all your support!! We are “People Helping People!!” — Sincerely, Shireen Ainsworth

Celebrations continued at July 14 mid-summer event
What are the odds? Wally Bresch does it again?!!!!
Everyone had lots of fun at our July 14 Texas Hold’em game, especially the winners who were: First, Maryann Larson; second, Rosemary Hopkins; third, Jim Steffens; fourth, Mel Mellick; fifth, Tony Fraley; sixth, Bruce Narducci; seventh, Dave Rice; eighth, Corey Gile; and ninth, Martin Louderback. Someday there will be all ladies at the final table. Just sayin’! New volunteers came aboard and really did an excellent job. Merry is our new “hot dog lady” and Judy Shively is Bob’s new helper. Tammy White, as always you stepped in and did a great job, as did the players who are always so helpful. Thanks to all of you. Mary is mending nicely and missed seeing all of you and hopefully will return at the August 11 game. C.U. then. Thank you. Bob Reynolds & Hold’em Team (253) 535-6706

The weather has been pretty good for golfing so far this summer. If you would like to play on our regular Wednesday or Sunday outings, just let the tee chairmen know so they can get enough tee times set up. From Your Madam President
Our summer weather brings fun activities to Daffodil #2308!!! I hope this letter brings a sunny greeting to all of our Daffodil Sisters and Brothers as we enter the month of August! Our annual Aerie Car Show, scheduled for Saturday, August 3, is one event that almost everyone looks forward to each year! The Auxiliary meeting attendance is up a bit and I am so happy for that. Please join us August 8 and the 22 at 7:30 p.m. One of my goals this year is to get more Sisters involved — and it is working! I have a few charity fund-raising opportunities that need chairmen. A fun way to raise money is a raffle using the paddle wheel that many of you have seen in action! Come join us at a meeting – they are fun and informative and we always have chances to win $$!! Plans are being made for the Annual Auxiliary Bazaar set for Sunday, November 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. See separate article for sign up date and contact information. Enjoy the rest of the summer. Fair time is almost around the corner! Let your Light Shine! — Robin Sheffer, Madam President
