een October, 2013 Happy Hallow From Your Worthy President

Halloween parties set for kids, teens, adults Brothers and Sisters, Here we are into the fall season. The Washington State Fair is over and Western Night went well. Thanks to all who attended and congratulations to those who won prizes. The bus trip to Leavenworth will be over by the time you read this. Thanks to Karleen and Kathy for their usual great job. This year we are having not only a kids Halloween party and an adult Halloween party, but are adding a Halloween party for teens. Remember, we have a $50 gift certificate for those attending an Aerie meeting enough times to qualify. You need to attend three consecutive meetings, then only one a month to stay in the drawing. We have already had several different winners. It is so much better to have your voice heard in an Aerie meeting than at the bar. We always need more volunteers, so if you would like to help your Aerie out, please contact our Aerie Manager, Loni Andrews. Thanks also to the Brothers who stepped forward to fill the vacant Trustee positions — Wally Lochrie and Alan Whipple. — Fraternally, Leonard Blakely, Worthy President

Open House!

From Your Madam President

Attendance is up and I am so happy Hello Sisters! Just a quick note to say “thank you” to all of you who have been attending our meetings! Attendance is improving and I am so happy to see new faces!! I have also enjoyed talking to quite a few of you outside of the meetings when I see you at the Aerie for the Sunday Jackpot drawings! Our meetings in October are on the 10th and 17th — the second and third Thursdays — so we can attend Buckley’s Auxiliary for their Annual Luau to host our State Madam President. They meet the same nights as we do. We arranged it so we can attend and surprise Shelia Wilson (State Madam President from Eatonville and dual member with Daffodil!). Every Sister is invited to come with us! I will have more information at the October 10 meeting. I also would like to have a Halloween dress-up night at our October 17 meeting. Let’s see how many Sisters we can pack in at the meeting! Come dressed up for fun and treats! — Robin Sheffer, Madam President

Please get those Hall of Fame nominations in! Aerie Brothers, please take a few moments of your time and think of an Aerie Brother worthy of being considered for our Daffodil #2308 “Hall of Fame.” With our strong heritage of service to our community, as well as our fellow Brothers, there should be no shortage of possibilities. But without someone taking the time to nominate them, they may never get the recognition they deserve. So come down and look at the “Hall of Fame’ plaque hanging in the front hall (next to the Texas Hold’em board) and see if there may be a name you wish to see added there next May. Nomination forms are available from the Aerie Secretary. — Your Hall of Fame Committee

Saturday, October 26 will be a very busy day, starting with a Halloween party for your children and grandchildren. There are lots of plans going into this party starting at 11a.m. and ending at 1p.m. Then going into the evening you may put your costumes on and come down for a fun-filled evening with prizes and surprises. If you don’t have a costume, come on down anyway and look at all who do.

Questions to ask yourself Often in my life I have acted without thinking, producing many regrets. It’s easy to aggressively challenge someone’s behavior and to be his/her judge. It’s easy to talk ill of an Eagle and equally easy to put that Eagle in his/her place. The prophet (my lovely wife) usually intervenes when I become rash with the following statement, “What is it you wish to accomplish ??? What are the end results of your actions? How will this play out and, will it serve you (in this case the Eagles Club) in the end ???” These are good questions. Before any of us judge and directly attack, we need to ask these questions. This includes me who is definitely far from perfect. Not to be misunderstood, there is a difference between stirring the pot and a personal attack. Stirring the pot is good if it is for the good of the organization. We still need to consider the outcomes. All inquires regarding this homily can be directed toward the prophet Sara. For 11 years it’s been her job to help me to stop, think and consider the outcomes before acting rashly. Oops, she just corrected me. We’ve been together for 12 years. We are a family of families. — Worthy President, South Tacoma FOE #2933

Annual Auxiliary Bazaar on Sunday, November 3

Tie-breaker method decides the Hatcher

Preparations are under way for a Spectacular Auxiliary Bazaar to be held on Sunday, November 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.!! This year our tables sold out in less than an hour! A reminder to all you bakers, please bake your favorite treats for the Auxiliary Bake Sale table. Also, if any Sister would like to donate items for the Auxiliary Bazaar table, it would be greatly appreciated! Vendors are welcome to donate one of their items if they wish to the Auxiliary Bazaar Raffle. Our Bazaar is the Auxiliary’s largest fundraiser of the year! A turkey dinner will be served from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Past President’ Club will serve breakfast “buffet style” in the morning! See you there! — Maxine Nybo, Chairman

The Daffodil Duffers traveled to Enumclaw Golf Course this year for the annual Joe Hatcher Memorial Tournament. This was a four-man team scramble game with eight teams competing. This year’s winners with a score of 63 were the team of Paul Mielbrecht, Milo White, Rick Carlson and Jim Tomaro. Nice golfing guys!! Also finishing with a score of 63 was the team of Jim Collyer, Mike Stone, Don Wakin and Bob Farnam. A tie-breaker method was used to determine the winners. The awards ceremony with a BBQ rib dinner was held at the Buckley Eagles Club immediately following the tournament. The ribs were fantastic, as well as the crew that hosted our event. Special thanks go out to all Buckley Eagles members who helped out. Thank you! Last month I mentioned that we had one more event left this year — the Memorial Tournament. But I forgot about the annual Turkey Shoot. Jem Hopkins is putting this one together. I’ll have all the details next month. “The only problem with golf is that the slow groups are always in front of you and the fast groups are always behind you.” — Bill Bostwick

Texas Hold’em

Despite distractions, 94 play on Sept. 8! The Puyallup Fair and the Seahawks game did not keep 94 players from playing Texas Hold’em on Sunday, September 8. Thank you players for helping us and giving of your time. We had a great game. Winners are as follows: Thomas Kitchen, Brad Stevens, Scott LaJoye, Glen Dunbar, Bob Shepherd, Shawn Petersen, Jim Vanalastine, Austin Miller and Marjorie Kaipainen. There was only one gal at the final table this time. Just sayin’ guys. Congratulations to Marie Bentz and Bill Gardiner on their recent marriage. How about the news that Dona Knox is going to be a grandma for the first time. Is she excited or

what??? Congrats to her, too. Dana Guinn is celebrating her 54th birthday and is aging like fine wine. Montana Saunders is getting younger and I would fear for my life if I mentioned her age. Thanks volunteers for all your work and smiles you give to each game. We will be collecting the $100 for the December 8 “Tournament of Champions” at the October 13 game. Your final chance to pay is November 10. Thanks again for supporting your Puyallup Eagles Texas Hold’em. — Bob Reynolds And the Hold’em Team (253) 535-6706
