$7.5 million construction upgrades to the Central West End MetroLink Station is currently underway as MetroLink looks to enhance security and accessibility By Charlotte Beard As of the week of Dec. 23, 2019, construction began for upgrades to the Central West End MetroLink Station which is being funded by Washington University School of Medicine and BJC HealthCare, in partnership with Metro Transit for $7.5 million. In approximately one year, riders are expected to experience less congestion at the station and an improvement to safety and visibility. “For MetroLink riders traveling to and from the Medical Campus, the updates to
the Central West End station will enhance safety, security and accessibility, while also helping people who get on and off the train at our stop feel welcome,” stated Melissa Rockwell-Hopkins, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Assistant Dean for Operations and Facilities Management at Washington University School of Medicine. “We’re excited to be working again with BJC HealthCare and Metro Transit to improve the experience of riders in the region, including
that of our students, employees, patients and visitors.” Leadership was not accessible for a response, but when asked what identifiable issues the medical campus or BJC patrons have experienced with transit in the past, Kim Cella, Executive Director for Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT) and the Missouri Public Transit Association provided input.
