By Sara Hardin The 10th Annual Baby Kid Expo will be taking place on Saturday, May 7 at the St. Charles Convention Center. The free event will run from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and will offer an abundance of fun activities for kids, as well as over 100 businesses with tons of helpful and important information for parents. “The Baby Kid Expo is a one-stop shop for the community to come and learn about what’s available in our area to make lives more fun, easier, or to just help them with this job of parenting,” said Heather Deatz, Owner and Show Producer of the Baby Kid Expo. “It’s a great way to connect families with helpful businesses that parents may not have been previously aware of that are available to us.” The event will feature entertainment that is focused on educating kids about everything from the importance of staying active, to how to stay safe on the street. St. Louis Children’s Hospital will be offering their Safety Street Interactive Zone, a walk-through exhibit that teaches kids how to navigate through various scenarios, such as looking out for cars or how to handle being approached by a stranger or a barking dog. On the event’s main stage at 10:45 a.m.,

Noodles & Company will be inviting two young chefs on stage to let their culinary skills show by measuring ingredients, and preparing them for sauté by a Noodles team member. They will share the finished product and the audience will have the chance to win Noodles swag. There will be plenty of opportunities for parents to learn, too. “The St. Charles County Ambulance District is offering CPR classes for parents,” said Deatz. “Anybody 12 or older can take it, and it takes about 20-30 minutes. There’s no registration and no fee. It’s a great way to learn CPR should the need for it ever arise. This is also an important thing for grandparents to revisit. We will also have MoChip there; they will have a station where they put your child’s vital information on a CD, should the unthinkable happen. It will include fingerprints, eye color, dental impressions – all that kind of stuff all in one place. It’s free, and a good thing for every parent to have… and hopefully never use!” The expo’s presenting sponsors, Barnes Jewish St. Peters Hospital and Children’s at Progress West Hospital, will also be offering fun activities and information at their booth.

“The Baby Kid Expo provides us with an opportunity to get connected with the community and with the families of the community,” said Kristin Williams, Community Outreach Director for Barnes-Jewish St. Peters & Progress West Hospitals. “We will also have a chance to promote our service lines and expertise that we have to offer, such as physicians, specialists, and our free education programs that we have available for all ages.” Barnes-Jewish will be bringing in four physicians who will be doing small speaking sessions at the Expo. Attendees will also have an opportunity to speak one-onone with the hospital’s doctors, who can provide important tips, tricks, do’s and don’ts and take-home resources for mothers and families. “There are a lot of parents and new moms who have a lot of questions, but don’t necessarily know the right people to ask,” said Williams. “To be able to have physicians there who can answer a broad array of topic will be helpful to those coming to the Expo. They can ask the experts right there during a Q&A.” New to the event this year is a Mother’s See BABY KID EXPO page 7
