By Charlotte Beard The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis serves as a celebratory luncheon location every year to honor the achievements of women around St. Louis. These women are known as Women of Achievement.

This year the organization honored and welcomed 10 new women on May 15 at its annual luncheon. The nominated and selected honorees span the areas of: civic responsibility, community betterment, humanitarian concerns, caring and compassion, multicultural awareness, music therapy advocacy, family empowerment, social enterprise,

Additionally, they are given a gift from Neiman Marcus and the retail giant hosts the luncheon in their honor where their achievements are highlighted. The Women of Achievement organization also presents each honoree with a Women of Achievement necklace.

Women of Achievement began as an awards program in 1955. Organizers believed that the community benefited greatly from the volunteer service of women. They also believed that there should be public recognition to celebrate them and inspire others. In 1993 the program was established as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization by former recipients who desired to ensure its existence for future generations. To date there are over 600 members due to the annual honors and the organization’s website lists over 700 nonprofit organizations that are represented by past honorees. Its officers and board of directors consist of only Women of Achievement members.

Anyone can nominate a woman who they believe deserves this honor. Packnett stated that people are encouraged to initiate their nomination online for the sake of ease in the process though there is the option to print the form for completion and mail. The criteria for nomination, form and instructions are available online at www.woastl.org via the menu item for honorees and the ‘Nominate’ option.

Following the annual May event, the organization meets each fall, and in the months leading up to the next event.

“Once we have the selections we [form our] two-tier committee,” shared Packnett. “The initial selection committee is comprised of all former Women of Achievement [honorees]

and the president. We narrow over 100 nominations down to 25. The initial selection committee is given a week to read each of those nominations. [Each of them] then [submits] their choice of 25. A meeting is held to determine who the top 25 are based on the responses from the initial selection committee.

That list goes to the second selection committee comprised of community leaders, some of our sponsors as well as former Women of Achievement.”

Packnett went on to explain that each of the latter committee members receive a list of the top 25 nominees and each of the members are given the opportunity to make their selection of the top 10. The top 10 honorees for the year are determined during a final meeting by this group.

“We all have in common this passion to see community betterment,” stated Packnett. “And therefore, work to transform things and shape things within the St. Louis metropolitan region. We are intentional about diversity at every level; that is reflected when we honor our women.”

Packnett shared that the organization believes in reflecting an array of age ranges; their oldest member is believed to be over 100 years old.

“We have a significant number in their 70s, 80s, and 90s. I feel honored to be in their presence. They are just dynamic women with vision and they dare to follow their passions and they dare to follow their hearts in making a marked difference in this community in real significant ways.”

COMMUNITY VOICES A simple action plan to save lives now

By Larry Brown There is a decision that you need to make, and innocent lives are at stake the longer you hesitate. This decision is at the core of our democracy and therefore we should be compelled to do something. Too many of our people of all races, nationalities, gender groupings and religious beliefs are being killed, and often for no apparent justifiable reason.

This must stop, because you never really know when you might innocently become victimized. Young people leave home for school and get killed before the day is over. Adults go to work and become victims at the job site. People walk down the street and are gunned down mercilessly.

We have a simple solution that will have a major effect on this agonizing reality, but you must participate.

We believe that people will do what their minds tell them to do and people often are creatures of habit. That being said, we have designed a t-shirt that has a slogan “I’m Alive. Let me Survive” and can be acquired by making a $10 donation to our ministry. If many people wear this shirt from time to time, multiples of others will see the slogan and their minds will record the message, and

it will ultimately change mindsets and cause people to have more respect for others’ lives.

Just think how many people will see this message if you wear the shirt while shopping, while taking a walk through the neighborhood, while in the gym, while going to meetings, etc.

Grace Chapel Ministries is a tax exempt organization, therefore contributions are tax exempt. We encourage you to get a t-shirt for yourself, and sponsor as many others as possible. We will give sponsored shirts to people who live in high-crime areas.

City of Hazelwood’s Finance Department receives GFOA Award for 20th consecutive year The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the city of Hazelwood by Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canadad (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). This marks the 20th consecutive year that Hazelwood has received this recognition.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental reporting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a

government and its management.

The sun shone bright as thousands of eastern Missouri Girl Scouts, family members, adult volunteers and community supporters gathered at the corner of Washington Avenue and Memorial Drive in downtown St. Louis—standing on their toes and craning their heads to get a glimpse of the Eads Bridge, as they waited for this historymaking event to begin.

On May 12, more than 2,100 registered Girl Scouts, volunteers and other supporters of girl empowerment crossed the iconic Eads Bridge in celebration of a century of Girl Scouting in eastern Missouri. This significant milestone in the organization’s legacy of building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place has been achieved by remaining true to the Girl Scout mission. For some event participants, this was not only an opportunity to celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouting but a special ceremony in which a Girl Scout advances from one grade level to the next. During these ceremonies, girls often walk over a bridge or a similar structure.

“Our founder, Juliette Gordon Low, established Girl Scouts more than a hundred years ago with an emphasis on inclusiveness, the outdoors, selfreliance and service,” said Bonnie Barczykowski, CEO of Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri. “I believe she would be so proud of our Girl Scouts today.

Her legacy lives on through the amazing work our girls are doing in their eastern Missouri communities. The event at the Eads Bridge was not only a celebration of the longevity of our organization, but a celebration of the achievement,

service and leadership of our Girl Scouts. Since our founding, we’ve served more than one million young women.”

Girl Scout Aubrie Hart was one of eight young women serving in the Color Guard for the event.

“My favorite part of the event was being able to lead every Girl Scout and volunteer across the Eads Bridge,” Hart said. “Not only was this event historical for Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, it was for myself as well. During the council-wide bridging ceremony, I bridged from an Ambassador to a Girl Scout alum and lifetime member of an organization that has helped me become the leader I am today.”

An hour after the event started, some participants completed the mile-long walk and returned to the Gateway Arch Park grounds to enjoy a variety of activities and food trucks. Throughout the afternoon, Girl Scouts ducked in and out of the MilliporeSigma’s Curiosity Cube, experimenting with the STEM (science, technology, science and math)-related projects offered in this mobile science lab. Girl Scouts also had a chance to hear from representatives from HEROES in Action, Inc. and experience some of the living history from the National Blues Museum.

In 1918, 11 girls and an adult volunteer met at a church off Washington Avenue and formed the first troop in eastern Missouri. The small gathering of Girl Scouts in a church off Washington is now the sixth largest of 112 Girl Scout Councils nationwide.

Stoss Landscape Urbanism team selected by Chouteau Greenway Design Competition jury The Chouteau Greenway Design Competition partners and jury have selected the team led

by Stoss Landscape Urbanism to refine their conceptual plans for a new greenway to connect Forest Park and the Gateway Arch.

Four teams were chosen in January to compete and were given 90 days to develop conceptual plans for the Chouteau Greenway. Teams submitted their plans in early April for public feedback and presented their ideas to the jury and community last week.

“The teams’ responses to the design and community goals indicate their understanding of the complexity and transformative nature of the project to St. Louis,” said Don Stastny, Competition Manager. “Their receptivity to the community concerns and interests was apparent and will be important in the next steps of design refinement.”

In the deliberations that followed, the Stoss Team was unanimously chosen as the team to participate in the next stage of the competition.

The jury provided comments about each team, suggestions for refinement of the chosen team’s concept and overall recommendations; the full jury report is available online.

“The team has gusto – not just talent, but also passion for the project,” said the jury. “Their successful response to the goals is due to their strong team, clear framework, and flexibility to work with the project partners, the community and also institutions. The outcomes in their presentation are not solutions but provide a starting point for dialog and design.”

Through a series of workshops, the Stoss team will review the community input gathered thus far and work with project partners to further refine their conceptual plans. This phase is expected to take several months and will provide the opportunity to develop specific greenway corridors, connections and concepts. Once the overall plan is in place, projects will undergo further community engagement, feasibility and alignment studies, design work and engineering before beginning construction.

“Thank you to the partners, stakeholders and community members for bringing fresh ideas and momentum to this project,” said Susan Trautman, Chief Executive Officer of Great Rivers Greenway. “The work to hone the concept and design a framework for equitable implementation is just beginning; we cannot wait to work with the Stoss team and our region to create a dynamic, world-class greenway that can transform our city and create common ground. This effort is another great example of how both the public and private sectors can work together to enhance the quality of life for all St. Louisans.”

Hazelwood Police Department implements ‘Kids & Cops’ program at local elementary schools The Hazelwood Police Department is sharing some of its successes with a “Kids & Cops” program that was implemented back in 2016 which has grown ever since. As part of the department’s community outreach policing philosophy, the HPD administered a program where it takes the police officers who routinely patrol specific neighborhoods and places them in the local elementary school on a bi-monthly basis.

These are not school resource officers or D.A.R.E. officers, but rather regular patrol officers the students would see or interact with in their neighborhood when not in school. The program was designed to help ease any fears or anxieties that children may have about police officers in hopes of building better relationships as they get older. It was also created to promote a positive relationship between the officers and school staff; along with giving the officers an opportunity to be physically present in the schools to enable them to become more familiar with the respective building/structure layout.

During the 2016-2017 year, the program brought 23 of the 29 uniformed patrol officers into the four public elementary schools in the city of Hazelwood. Each officer spent on average about an hour and a half with students in grades three through five. Much of this time was spent with these kids during lunch or recess hours.

For the 38-week school year, offers were there 20 of those weeks (holiday breaks are excluded). On average, the HPD devoted 5.25 man hours per week, with a total of 100.5 hours for the year.

For the 2017-2018 school year, the police department increased its participation in this program by joining with two private schools within its municipality. The Blossom Wood Day School on Howdershell Road and the Christian Academy on Latty Avenue were the participating private elementary schools. This brought the department’s numbers to 150 hours for the school year and increased the number of children who interacted with HPD officers.

The Hazelwood Police Department conducts an annual review at the end of each school year and is actively looking on how to make improvements and continue the program for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year.

City of Hazelwood hosts business appreciation dinner for hometown businesses The city of Hazelwood showed its appreciation to local businesses for making their company home in Hazelwood by hosting a business appreciation dinner for hundreds of business owners, senior management and entrepreneurs recently at the dining facilities at Mallinckrodt Pharmaceutical.

Hazelwood Mayor Matthew Robinson and City Manager Matthew Zimmerman walked around and greeted everyone at the event. City council members who attended the event included the following individuals: Ward 1 Councilwoman Carol Stroker; Ward 2 Councilman Bob Aubuchon; Ward 3 Councilman Don Ryan; Ward 5 Councilman Russell Todd; Ward 6 Council Warren “Butch” Taylor; and Ward 7 Councilwoman Ro Hendon.

The city of Hazelwood is home to over 900 businesses, large and small. Fourteen of those are Fortune 1,000 companies.

$1 million health grant awarded in partnership to The Salvation Army and Christian Hospital The Salvation Army of St. Louis and Christian Hospital have received a three-year $1 million grant from the Missouri Foundation for Health that will bring better health into north St. Louis County.

“Pathway to Health is an expansion of our current operations inside the Ferguson Community Empowerment Center,” says Dan Jennings, The Salvation Army’s Bi-State CEO. “We will now be able to assist families and individuals in Ferguson and surrounding zip codes who are experiencing poverty and barriers to physical wellness.”

Data shows for Ferguson and neighboring municipalities that nearly half of Christian Hospital’s emergency department visits are non-emergent or emergent-avoidable. North St. Louis County comprises The Salvation Army of St. Louis’ highest service in the region for emergency social services. The intersecting needs of North County residents led The Salvation Army and Christian Hospital to work together around a common goal of economic and physical wellness.

“Christian Hospital and The Salvation Army have partnered to create holistic sustainable change by not only addressing the community’s health challenges but also the social determinants of health that lead to poor health outcomes, especially for African Americans,” says Rick Stevens, Christian Hospital president.

“The Pathway to Health initiative will address the lack of access to affordable care, the need for increased health knowledge, and chronic

condition management for African Americans and others, while also working to eliminate socio-economic barriers.”

Funding for this project was provided in whole by Missouri Foundation for Health.

The Foundation is a resource for the region, working with communities and nonprofits to generate and accelerate positive changes in health. As a catalyst for change, the Foundation improves the health of Missourians through a combination of partnership, experience, knowledge, and funding.

The Ferguson Community Empowerment Center, co-owned by The Salvation Army and the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, 9420 West Florissant Ave., will be the team setting where Pathway to Health will operate and coordinate. Patients who are at Christian Hospital’s emergency department for non-emergent or avoidable visits will be referred to The Salvation Army case managers in Ferguson. Christian Hospital will provide community health workers and a preventive health educator at the Ferguson Community Empowerment Center to engage in wellness activities with residents in Ferguson and surrounding neighborhoods.

The Pathway to Health Program will be a component of the long-term case management of Pathway of Hope, an approach that assists families in overcoming the root causes of barriers that perpetuate the cycle of crisis and vulnerability that keep them in poverty.

Normandy high schoolers earn college credit with Gateway Program Next year this time, Normandy juniors Ariel Piphus, Gabrielle Brown and Mohammed AhmadGol will be among six Normandy students graduating with a high school diploma and an associate’s degree from St. Louis Community College (STLCC).

They are enrolled in the Gateway to College Scholars Academy, a dual-enrollment program for students ages 15 to 20 with at least seven or more high school credits. This partnership with STLCC began in 2010.

The Normandy Schools Collaborative, along with Ferguson-Florissant, Hazelwood, Ritenour and Jennings School districts, all have students participating in the program. Gateway to College is funded in part by partnering school districts. Tuition is free and books are paid for by the program.

Although Gateway to College initially targeted students who might not have fared well in a traditional high school setting, program director James Gillespie said the program now serves a wide range of students.

“The program initially catered to students who were behind in credits,” he said. “About four or five years ago, we added a new component [to include] high-achieving students.”

Gillespie works closely with Jacqueline Powell, a guidance counselor at Normandy High School, to ensure students meet graduation requirements at both

institutions. They also ensure students have access to the support and tools necessary to thrive in a collegiate environment.

Gateway to College students also have opportunities to tour colleges and universities, career development and exposure to S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering, and math) opportunities.

Hazelwood School District Class of 2018 surpasses last year’s scholarship totals The Hazelwood School District’s (HSD) graduating class of 2018 earned more than $33 million in college scholarships to date. This record represents the efforts on 1,197 students who graduated from one of the three Hazelwood high schools on May 19 at University of Missouri-St. Louis. (UMSL) Hazelwood Central High has 457 graduates who earned $13,391,596, Hazelwood East High School has 263 graduates who earned $5,015,221, and Hazelwood West High School has 477 who earned $14,884,419.

“I am extremely proud of our students collectively earning more than $33 million in scholarships, so far,” said Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, HSD superintendent. “This is an impressive amount of money from an equally impressive group of students. I am confident that this group of seniors will do well in their post-secondary careers.”

SD graduates will be attending local colleges and universities, as well as those traveling across the country to continue their post-secondary careers this fall.

Townsend Elementary celebrates ‘Muffins with Mom’ Townsend Elementary, in the Hazelwood School District, recently celebrated “Muffins with Moms,” an annual event that mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and mentors attend with their students.

Special guests enjoyed muffins, juice, milk, and coffee with their child. More than 280 special guests attended the morning event at the school.

Knights of Columbus Duchesne Council #2951 and the city of Florissant will be cosponsoring a Food Truck Knight from 5 to 9 p.m. on the lot near the Old St. Ferdinand Shrine located at 50 rue St. Francois.

The trucks will serve until 8 p.m. and performing at the event will be Rita Sextro and John Caravelli until 8 p.m.

(Some trucks may serve later). The truck line up for the evening is: Destination Desserts, Sarah’s Cake Shop, Andrew’s Bayou Ribs, Angie Burger, The Southerner, Steak Louie, 2 Girls 4 Wheels, Kona Ice, Russo’s Trucktoria, Zia’s Food Truck, Slice of the Hill, Cha Cha Chow, My Big Fat Greek Truck and Buzz’s Hawaiian Grill.

The Jennings Do-Dads are excited to announce the 25th annual Juvenile

Justice Scholarship Golf Tournament.

This year’s tournament will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start at Normandie Golf Club at 7605 St. Charles Rock Rd. in St. Louis. The tournament format will be a four-player team, 18hole scramble. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each of four flights. There will be refreshments available during the event and all participants are invited to the Normandie Golf Club pavilion for food and beverages following the tournament. There will also be attendance prizes and plenty of fun for everyone.

Team entry (four players) cost is $350 and includes greens fees, cart, limited beverages at course, attendance prizes and the post-tournament food and refreshments. Limited to the first 36 teams, entry forms and fees are preferred by May 31, although you may register and pay up to the day of the tournament. Christian High earns state championship in soccer The CHS girls of O’Fallon had a great trip to Kansas City recently as they went west on I-70 to take on Notre Dame for an opportunity to be the best in the state in soccer.

Eylessa Kellam hit the back of the net in the second half to produce the only score in the game for CHS. That was enough as the girls brought back their first championship for CHS Eagles. * Thanks Mike McMullen for the updates Rascals have the best record in league The River City Rascals professional baseball team play in the West Division of the Frontier League with their home games at CarShield Field in O’Fallon.

As the first full week of June begins, the club has gelled together offensively and defensively, playing their first 20 games to just about perfection.

With the bats, Stephen Kerr is batting fifth in the league with a strong .340. Clint Freeman has been the man to be at the plate with runners in scoring position as he has knocked in 15 players across the plate being among the top in the league in that category.

From the mound, lefty Hector Hernandez has won three of the four games asked to pitch by Manager Steve Brook making him near the top of the league. Tossing 22 innings, Hernandez has struck out 17 only allowing 20 hits in that time frame. Not to be outdone, right-handed pitcher Josh Kimborowicz has thrown in 23 innings striking out 26 batters and only allowing four base-onballs.

As a team, the Rascals are surprisingly near the bottom of the 14 teams, hitting at a .235 clip. The 39 doubles hit; however, is top in the league.

The pitchers have compiled a .319 earned-run-average placing them third in the league. The team’s pitching staff has been the stingiest, allowing only 71 runs, that is tops in the league.

Thorngren was also named to the 10-member All-East Division Team along with senior Stefaniya Ivanova.

The program’s only all-American, she is a repeat selection, having also earned the honor last season.

Thorngren earned a fifth place finish at the NCAA DII Championships, shooting a school record 293 and was third at the NCAA Regional and sixth at the GLVC Championships. She also recorded a pair of runner-up finishes during the regular season, including at the Triton Invitational, in which she tied the school’s 18-hole record of 69.

Ivanova, a four-time All-GLVC selection, graduates third on the program’s career scoring average charts at UMSL. The duo helped UMSL to a program-best sixth place finish at the NCAA Championships and a school record 305.19 scoring average. The Tritons had 10 top-10 finishes during the year. * Well deserved Gary Baute, a St. Louis native, may be educated in business but he lives and breathes sports. As a fan or an athlete, Gary is all sports all the time.

He hosted a radio sports program on KFNS, emceed the River City Rascals’ inaugural season, and co-hosted SportsRadioSTL.com, among many other activities.

Grilled Chicken and Pineapple Skewers with Lemon-Cucumber Salsa Recipe courtesy of Chef Alyssa, ALDI Test Kitchen | Prep time: 15 minutes | Cook time: 15 minutes | Servings: 4 Ingredients: 8 skewers 1 pineapple 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 1/2 teaspoon iodized salt 1 teaspoon ground black pepper 1 3/4 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts, diced into 1-inch pieces Lemon-Cucumber Salsa: 1 lemon, supremed 1 cucumber, diced 1/2 red onion, diced 1 tablespoon honey 1 teaspoon ground black pepper Directions: Soak wooden skewers for 15 minutes prior to grilling.

Heat grill to medium-high heat.

Remove rind from pineapple and dice into 1-inch pieces.

In small bowl, combine oil, salt and pepper.

Add chicken and pineapple; toss to coat.

Alternating chicken and pineapple, pierce onto skewers.

Serve lemon-cucumber salsa over cooked chicken skewers.

Grill skewers 8 minutes each side, or until chicken is cooked thoroughly.

Tip: Supreme citrus fruit by cutting off top and bottom of fruit then cut away peel and pith, leaving no white on outside of fruit. Slice each segment into wedges by cutting toward center of fruit along membrane.

The Force is with “Solo: A Star Wars Story”

An internet search for “Solo: A Star Wars Story” returns countless articles about low box office returns and fan fatigue. The analysis and speculation ignore how engaging and entertaining this film really is. Ron Howard took over directing duties after his predecessors left the project because of “creative differences.” Howard subsequently created a fascinating film about a popular and important “Star Wars” character.

Alden Ehrenreich plays the title role, a young man who grew up on the planet known as Corellia. Slaves to a criminal gang, Han and his girlfriend Qi’ra (Emilia Clarke) try to bribe their way off the planet, but their plan fails miserably. Qi’ra is captured and, though Han desperately chases after her, he is unable to reach her. He then joins the Imperial Army as a means of escape, promising that he will return to find her.

Ron Howard has always been a master storyteller and his work on “Solo: A Star Wars Story” is top notch. Working from the screenplay from Lawrence and Jonathan Kasdan, Howard explores the background of the man who became a big part of the rebellion. The director also answers a lot of questions about Solo’s backstory, filling in some of the more interesting gaps.

Alden Ehrenreich turns in a solid performance as Han, a young man desperate to buy freedom for his girlfriend and himself. When that fails, he embarks on a three-year journey to return to her. While fighting in the Imperial Army’s infantry, he’s introduced to Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo), the Wookie who would become his best friend. Their interactions here are some of the film’s best moments.

ance in this adventure. Lando has two loves in his life: the Millennium Falcon and L3-37 (voice of Phoebe Waller-Bridge), his droid companion and navigator. Woody Harrelson joins the franchise as Tobias Beckett, a criminal with a scheme to make some big money. No one plays a hard-boiled character quite like Harrelson.

Emilia Clarke steals the show, though, as Qi’ra, Han’s lost love who makes a dramatic reappearance later in the story. Qi’ra has been through a lot after her separation from Solo, and those missing years could easily fill another “Star Wars” story.

With director Ron Howard leading the way, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” tells a very satisfying tale with enough action and intrigue to satisfy the fans. The well-developed screenplay delves into Han Solo’s past, examining the relationships that shaped the character. It’s surprising that the box office results haven’t been better because this is a great film.

“Solo: A Star Wars Story,” rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi action and violence, currently is playing in theaters.

Born and raised in South St. Louis, Steve Bryan is now based in Anaheim, California, and has been allowed access to movie and television sets to see actors and directors at work. Though his writing has taken him far from St. Louis, Steve is, at heart, still the same wide-eyed kid who spent countless hours watching classic movies at neighborhood theaters.

Have you seen this one? A 30-year old man who has been living rent-free in his parent’s basement has been evicted by court order.

Ahh, the good old days. Remember those times when children couldn’t wait to get the heck out of their freedom-hampering parents’ homes? They were rebels with a legitimate cause who’d had quite enough of the sadistic bonds that parental units placed on them. Restraints such as restrictive curfews and the endless chores: making the bed, taking out the garbage and of course the never-ending lawn mowing. Afterwards, parents gave out such miniscule allowances that kids had to make several payments just to bail their boom boxes out of lay-a-way. Torture.

Some dads went a step further and forced their young ones to actually get real jobs, such as paper routes. Offspring were made to peddle blocks and blocks on paved sidewalks, tossing papers into sprinklers and roof tops only to have half of their earnings seized and thrust into a savings account. The inhumanities.

Further brutalities included dangerous homecooked meals. Children were made to eat broccoli or some other sort of greenish lethal vegetable without even considering pie until it had all been consumed.

By Cindy Moore Punishment was brutal too. Sometimes TV privileges were taken away forcing kids to explore the outdoors and breathe in toxic oxygen.

On top of eating all those toxic greens, it’s a wonder we have a future generation at all.

I moved out at 18 along with a group of girls.

We rented an apartment and couldn’t wait. We learned some valuable lessons.

Clean socks and underpants do not magically appear folded and stacked in drawers courtesy of the laundry fairy. Dinners do not suddenly appear on the table at 5 p.m., steaming and ready to eat – some assembly is required along with lots of money.

We learned there is a cruel monopoly on things that occur in nature, which should naturally be free. Electricity, water and gasoline have been hijacked by evil companies. They figured out how to stick it to the unsuspecting public. The mailman was behind this as well. He delivered envelopes filled with things called bills that had to be paid or jail time resulted.

After temporarily experiencing the outside world; we left our harsh reality and cheerfully crawled back to the safety of our parent’s basements. *Note to parents of the 30-year old. We never made it back in. The locks had been changed.
