North County Cities Work Together The Thirteenth Annual North County Gala Dance will be held Friday, September 27 from 7 - 10pm at the James J. Eagan Center at 1 James J Eagan Dr. in Florissant. This event is unique because the cities of Florissant, Ferguson, St. Ann, Bridgeton, Hazelwood and Maryland Heights are all coming together to sponsor the event. All the cities work together to plan and prepare for the dance. Then each community takes on a few specific tasks to make the night happen. For example, Hazelwood handles the financial part of it, and St. Ann finds the Dance Angels. Since the event takes place in the City of Florissant, Peggy Hogan of the Florissant Senior Citizen Office and her team handle the set up. “We have meetings throughout the year to work
together to plan it,” she explains. For a $15 ticket, seniors can enjoy the beautiful sounds of the Sentimental Journey 18-piece big band, delicious hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. There will be some phenomenal prizes that will be raffled. There are a limited number of tickets available now for each city. Call the City of Florissant Senior Office at 314.839.7605 for more information. Peggy says the purpose of the gala is to bring everyone from all over North County together. “We have always worked with the different communities,” she says, “and over the years some of our residents as well as some of theirs would do things together. We thought it would be a wonderful idea to get them all together. We started getting them together with this dance, and
it’s been highly successful. They love it.” Each year’s gala has a particular theme. This year it’s “An Evening in Paris.” The centerpieces and the stage decorations will be decorated with Paris landmarks and the Sentimental Journey band will perform songs that will go with the theme. Seniors don’t need a date to this dance. “We have Dance Angels that we invite,” Peggy says, “so if someone has no one to dance with; the angels are there just to dance with people.” Guests can expect familiar faces from their neighborhood and also some favorite local politicians. “The mayors of all the cities are invited, and whenever they can make it, they come. They might speak or just enjoy the event,” Peggy said.
