The 21st St. Ferdinand Thanksgiving Dinner will continue to distribute free holiday dinners amid the pandemic, but with notable changes in place By Charlotte Beard On Thanksgiving Day, a team of 10 churches in North St. Louis County are making it possible for people to receive free dinners via drive-thru amid the pandemic. Though this year is a drive-thru as opposed to the sit-down and carry-out like in the past, Nov. 26 marks 21 years that the St. Ferdinand Thanksgiving Dinner (SFTD) has served the community. The drive-thru dinner pick-up will take place at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, located at 1765 Charbonier Road in Florissant. Dinners will be distributed to cars from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., or according to the

committee, until the turkey runs out. Dinners are limited to six dinners per car. Though COVID-19 has had a great impact on many events this year, Patricia Meitz, President of the SFTD committee shared the importance of continuing their service this year. “This event was started by St. Ferdinand parishioner, Pat von Nida, inspired by the visit of St. John Paul II in 1999 as an interfaith and ecumenical outreach to those who are in need, lonely or who just wanted a good dinner,” stated Meitz. “That has been our mission ever since and still guides us today.

Fortunately for us our caterer, Krause Katering, who cooks the turkeys for us is continuing to donate his time even though his business has been severely hurt by this pandemic. His donation makes this dinner possible.” Don Krause and his family were honored in 2019 for their continual volunteered service since the annual initiative began. According
