Boxing Therapy founder brings energy to helping youth and adults manage stress and boost self-esteem by strapping on some gloves By Brett Auten Jose Jones leaves a lasting impression. Armed with a smile that could light the night and a gregarious and radiating personality, Jones is a welcome addition to any day. A staple in and around the campus of Lindenwood University since 2002, Jones was recognized recently by the Missouri Jaycees as an Outstanding Young Missourian. The Missouri Jaycees annually select and honor several Outstanding Young Missourians who were nominated throughout
the state. Jones, 36, was one of the overall winners and is now eligible to represent Missouri in the National Ten Outstanding Young Americans competition. “Jose brings so much excitement and energy to everything he touches,” Jennifer Smith, a vice president with the Missouri Jaycees and a St. Charles Jaycees member, said. “I knew the first time I met him, he was our guy. He has never met a stranger and he is very interested in hearing about other people’s experiences.” Jones, a native of Panama, earned his undergraduate degree in mass communica-
tions at Lindenwood in 2005. With an unquenchable thirst for learning, a trifecta of masters degrees followed and he earned his doctorate in education in 2018. It was during his time as a graduate assistant in the Business Office at Lindenwood when Jones combined his two passions in life. Born was Boxing Therapy, a non-contact/non-sparring program aimed at helping anyone and everyone manage stress and boost self-esteem. Jones has geared portions of the program around those with autism and other social disorders. He has See ‘MARK’ page 2
