St. Charles is one of the only municipalities in the region to hold Fourth of July celebrations during the coronavirus pandemic By Brett Auten St. Charles will be one of the few locations getting its bang on this Fourth of July. With the annual Riverfest canceled due to COVID-19, the city of St. Charles has stepped up and is still providing residents and visitors with a fireworks display for the Fourth of July. “We expect a larger crowd than normal and we have plans in place for traffic,” Beth Norviel, Communication Technology Director with the city of St. Charles, said.
“From what I have seen, ours is the only one in the county. There are a couple of others in St. Louis County.” Things will kick off at 9:20 p.m. on the riverfront near Frontier Park. There will be no shuttle service for the event. Officials want to remind residents and visitors that social distancing is still strongly advised and ask that everyone attending consider all guidelines as recommended by the CDC. Face masks are recommended, but not required. “We understand that we need to be smart
about having large gatherings, and ask that everyone please follow the recommended guidelines,” St. Charles Mayor Dan Borgmeyer said. “With the governor and the county executive announcing the next phase of our recovery, we are very pleased to be able to offer the opportunity to celebrate the Fourth of July with a spectacular fireworks display.” Attendees are reminded that Riverside Drive will be closed from Boone’s Lick Road to Jefferson from Saturday, July 4 at See ‘PYROTECHNICS’ page 2
