By Alexandra Ray It only takes one person – no matter how big or small, young or old – to create a positive impact in the lives of many. Eleven-year-old Ella Mateja started Ella’s Fearless Heroes Lemonade Stand in 2015. Ella sets up her lemonade stand each year with the purpose of collecting donations that will help organizations that honor our military and their families. Ella’s Fearless Heroes Lemonade Stand will be set up this weekend, Aug. 4 and Aug. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Farm and Home Supply Store located at 5995 Mid Rivers Mall Dr. in Cottleville. Ella has a desire to give back to others, as others have given to her. Ella stated, “My teachers help me so much. I want to help someone else. My grandpa was a soldier, so I want to help the soldiers. (The lemonade stand) helps our community and brings them all together.” Suzanne Mateja, Ella’s mother, stated, “The lemonade stand grew into something I think we didn’t expect.” In her first three years, Ella raised $22,000. This year, Ella has a goal to raise $8,000. All donations collected at this year’s lemonade stand will be given to Fallen Hero’s Dream Ride and the Missouri Patriot Guard Riders. Fallen Hero’s Dream Ride was established as a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization in 2012 after Lance Corporal Phillip Vinnedge was killed in action on Oct. 13, 2010 at the age of 19. Ella has the opportunity to support other children, as part of the donations from her lemonade stand go to support the Dream Riders foundation, a part of Fallen Hero’s Dream Ride which focuses on the children who have lost a loved one who served in the military. foundation provides events for these children to give them new and fun memories, because they deserve it and should never be forgotten. Julie Vinnedge, Founder, Executive Director and Treasurer of Fallen Hero’s Dream Ride and Gold Star Mother of Lance Corporal Phillip Vinnedge, stated, “Ella is a little girl… she’s just your typical little girl. But when she puts her apron on and she sets up her lemonade stand, she becomes a hero. And she has impacted so many peoples’ lives that I don’t even think she realiz-

The Missouri Patriot Guard Riders is an all-volunteer organization that ensures dignity and respect at memorial services honoring fallen military heroes, first responders and honorably discharged veterans. Vinnedge stated, “When Ella decided to honor (the Missouri Patriot Guard Riders) also, I was like, ‘Yay!’ Because a lot of times, See ‘VETERANS’ page 3
