More and more, the ease and capability to carry out important tasks from inside your home continues to expand. A week’s worth of groceries, a major bank transaction, and in certain states, getting married can all be accomplished with a few keystrokes. Now, in St. Charles County, you can go to court and still be in your pajamas. The St. Charles County Municipal Court
is offering a virtual court appearance option for defendants. The court handles traffic violations issued by the St. Charles County Police Department and Missouri Highway Patrol, as well as cases involving violations of county ordinances. “I never thought we would do this at the municipal level,” Municipal Court Judge Joel Brett said. “Maybe it will become a trend and a positive option for the community, especially for those who may have transportation issues when it comes to get-
ting to court.” Brett said another motivation of the virtual court appearance option is to provide an alternative to help limit in-person appearances and for defendants who have health concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic.
