The annual United States Roller Hockey Championship tournament, also known as State Wars, returns to the St. Peters Rec-Plex By Brett Auten It’s the thrill and intensity of overtime hockey, except from the first whistle on. The annual United States Roller Hockey Championship tournament, also known as State Wars, returns to the St. Peters Rec-Plex later this month. An expected 3,000 athletes and 10,000 other attendees will descend onto the region, spanning locations from California to Florida, and everywhere in between. From July 20 to Aug. 2, the three ice rinks at the Rec-Plex will be turned into inline skat-
ing rinks for State Wars 17 and will host more than 300 teams from all over North America, including teams from Colombia and Argentina. “We’re thrilled to host State Wars again,” St. Peters Director of Recreation Phil Boettge said. “This is an amazing event that brings so many people together from around the nation and the world for great competition for a wonderful sport. We’re lucky that we have a facility such as the Rec-Plex in our community to experience this type of unique and entertaining championship tournament. We hope the community takes time to come out and
watch the action. There’s no fee to attend, so please feel free to bring the family.” This will mark the fourth time in 10 years that the Rec-Plex has played host to the event. Being located in the center of the country with a large airport within a short drive, makes St. Charles County an ideal location. “We have a great partnership with St. Peters and the Rec-Plex,” State Wars Hockey President Tim McManus said. “The facility and staff are top-notch for starters.
