Beer, Brats, and Fun in Historic St. Charles Say “Guten Tag” to Charlie Ludwig. Charlie is the Official Mascot of the Saint Charles Oktoberfest, taking place September 27 - 29 in Frontier Park in St. Charles. Charlie gets his name from the Sister Cities partnership between Saint Charles, Missouri, and Ludwigsburg, Germany. The St. Charles Sister Cities Program was incorporated in 1994 to encourage mutual understanding, friendship, and goodwill through cultural, social, business, and educational exchanges between St. Charles and her Sister Cities. The 2013 Parade Grand Marshall is German-American Joe Daues, founder of the Saint Charles Sister Cities program. This year’s McDonald’s Parade on Main begins Saturday morning at 10am sharp on old Main Street. Sure to be the best year yet, the 3rd annual R T Weiler’s Wiener Takes All Wiener Dog Race and Fashion Show has a new and improved format, including awesome Doggie Starting Gates. This is sure to be a crowd pleaser starting at 12:30pm on Saturday. Interested in registering your dachshund for this event? fest.com/event/wiener-takes-all. Kids can enjoy the Lou Fusz Chevrolet “Kids Zone” and help other kids with physical and developmental disabilities because proceeds benefit KEEN St. Louis. KEEN provides free recreational and sports programs for kids age 4-17 with physical and developmental disabilities. The Radio Disney Road Crew will entertain with music, dancing, games, prizes and fun on Saturday and Sunday. Do you think you’re big and strong? Samuel Adams Stein Hoisting Contest winners will converge in the Hofbrau Tent at 4pm on Saturday. Runners and walkers alike can enjoy the Oktoberfest 5K Run and 1-Mile Root Beer Fun Run on Sunday morning at 9am. Participants will receive “Dirndl und Lederhosen” run shirts and fun swag bag items to make the run memorable. The run is sponsored by SSM St. Joseph Health Center and proceeds benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Join in by signing up at www.saintcharlesoktoberfest.com under Events.
