Colorado ranks 16th in the nation based on seven metrics – drawn from thousands of data points – according to U.S. News & World Report. Categories evaluated for the ranking include state performance on health care, education, state economy, infrastructure, public safety, fiscal stability of state government, and the opportunity the state brings its residents. “Health care and education were weighted most heavily. Then came state economies, infrastructure, and the opportunity states offer their citizens. Fiscal stability followed closely in weighting, followed by measures of crime and corrections and a state’s natural environment,” writes U.S. News & World. Overall, Colorado has the eight largest land mass covering 104,095 square miles and is home to more than 5.75 million people who have a median income of $38,200.
