Promoting Digital Photo Artistry

www.mycreativeimages.com August - 2019

Welcome to the Mycreativeimages Magazine I am a photo digital artist and know how difficult it is to gain exposure and put your work in front of prospective customers. I started this magazine as a way of promoting my artist Bio and showcasing my latest work. However, this soon changed as I recognised other artists had the same needs. So I updated the magazine to promote both new and existing photo digital artists and give you the chance to enjoy some of the amazing artwork that is being produced by artists that may be in your neighbourhood. So, if you enjoy this magazine and the artwork it showcases, share it on your social media pages, show it to your friends and relatives. Help put the artists in this magazine in front of as many people as possible. Thanks

All images in this publication are sourced / created by the artists, unless otherwise stated on their websites or social media pages and as such must not be copied or sold without the express consent of the artist. This publication is created and owned by James Hurley, ©www. mycreativeimages.com 2019. Please feel free to share the magazine but do not make changes to any of the content.

Claude Trew I am a retired lady who is a keen photographer and I belong to a local camera club. However, while I enjoy entering the competitions organised by the club, I feel that the style of photographs that are most successful in club competitions is inhibiting my creative output. I am following some online courses to try to improve the artist in me. So far I have enjoyed every course I have done and hope to share my work with a bigger audience. This is an ongoing process.

Bernie Tuffs

Hello! I’m Bernie and I live in the little seaside town of Margate and having lived here all my life, I couldn’t live anywhere else now! I’m continually inspired by the scenery here, with skies and light that so excited famous artist J.W.Turner, who said of this area, “…the skies over Thanet are the loveliest in all Europe”. Apparently, a love of the sea stayed with him all his life and I can well understand that! Painting with light holds a real attraction for me - the gentle light that is still strong enough to dispel darkness. I’ve always been arty, progressing from childhood sketching, through gouache and then oil painting, then paper crafting and scrapbooking which led me to digital scrapbooking and finally to Sebastian Michaels and Photo Artistry. Now I feel I’m home and am having so much fun with my art! If you would like to see some more of my art visit: https://artboja.com/art/utucc4/

Hello my name’s Vivien and I’m from the beautiful county of Kent, England though currently living and working near Rome in delightful Italy with its exciting, lively way of life and vibrant colours and designs. I started out as an artist in 1982 developing Indian ink artwork of a variety of subjects especially figurative artwork and abstract floral designs, then progressed into creative photography and digital artistry thanks to Sebastian Michael’s amazing courses at ‘Photoshop Artistry’ and the advanced course ‘Awake’. My inspiration is drawn from my love of nature, figurative artwork and Italian design using many textures, patterns and colours. I’m thrilled to have some of my artwork in various publications including: Living the Photo Artistic Life, My Creative Images and have had various artworks mentioned in the Shift Art Challenge. Dawn Spears

https://selfpubbookcovers.com/ DawnyDawny I have been producing art in various forms for over 30 years. I have worked in many different media, from watercolour to ink, graphite, and coloured pencil. More recently I have turned to photography and digital art and used these skills to branch out into book covers as well. I absolutely love coming up with ideas to do authors’ words justice. Every one of my book covers are original art pieces. I create them using a mixture of my own photographs and artwork which I blend with my own 3D renders. I try to avoid the use of stock images, meaning my buyers can be 100% assured that their book cover is completely and utterly unique.

Norma Slack

https://www.normasue.com/

I am a digital artist, writer and poet from beautiful Northern Ireland. I currently live in County Down, within sight of the majestic Mourne Mountains. I have been an enthusiastic photographer for many years but it was only when I discovered digital art that I finally felt able to create images that reflected both my emotions and vision. Every day I work towards improving my skills within the fascinating world of the digital workspace. For me it’s a place of magic, a place where I can give free reign to my imagination and create the type of art I feel connected to. About eighteen months ago I began to combine my new digital skills with my poetry and have recently published my first illustrated poetry book, Thunder In My Soul: a collection of illustrated poems. The book is now available at Amazon. It is a project I feel a strong emotional connection to and has been a labour of love. A free sample, along with a selection of my art, can be viewed on my website. You will also find me on Instagram @artbynormasue or my website: https://www.normasue.com/

The Sam Wells Interview

My Cr e a t i v e I ma g e s – B e h i n d t h e scenes by VivienJane

This month it is a great pleasure to interview Samantha Wells from the Isle of Wight. Samantha’s artwork is best described in her own words: ‘My artwork is a mix of ………Ballet, Dance and music with a painterly feel In this month’s issue we’ve asked her to share some of her creative processes with our readers: When did you first start out in photography and photo art? I started with photography about 5 years ago, but felt very restricted and I realised I wasn’t making the art I wanted to really create. I found Daz Studio purely by accident around 3 years ago and I haven’t looked back. I gave up photography, and now every image I create starts in Daz Studio. I joined The Photo Artistry course over a year ago, which led to me joining the Awake course and kaizen. The course Facebook groups gave me a lot of encouragement and confidence. Have you been influenced by other photographers or digital artists? Yes! Through seeing all the amazing images posted in the Facebook groups I find new techniques and new ideas all the time. There are so many talented artists, but I do have my favorites that when I see their work makes me really want to push myself more. Do you have a basic idea or story in mind when you start creating? Yes, but it doesn’t mean it will turn out how I want it to. In general, the image will make itself as I add more to it. I only start with a basic idea that will shape itself. If I start with an idea that is perfect in my mind and it doesn’t turn out that way, then I will be disappointed with it, so I have learned to just go with the flow of creating and see where the image ends up. Which item(s) are indispensable in your tool kit? My computer would be the main item, then Daz Studio, Photoshop and Lightroom, those are my 3 processes. And I also bought a screen I can draw on, so it is much easier to paint my images now. You’ve started using a painterly process in your art; could you tell us a bit more about it? I have always wanted to have a painterly feel to my images, but it is only recently I have achieved the look I was after. I spent many years and far too much money going through so many programs and techniques, only to be disappointed with the outcome. I have never been very good at using Photoshop brushes, but then I stumbled on some lovely oil brushes that use the mixer brush and after buying the external screen, I finally felt comfortable using the two together. I bought 2 sets of brushes which have around 20 brushes in each pack. At the moment I only use 2 brushes, but they are working for me and I’m pleased with how the images are coming out. I am slowly converting my old images to this painterly look, it does take many hours for each image , but I find it very relaxing. What would your advice be to an aspiring photographer/digital photo artist? Don’t give up and don’t be too hard on yourself. If you are not producing the images you want to at the moment, one day you will. It takes going through

Julie Cowdy

I am a photo artist. I live in NW England and SW France. My work covers many different genres, including narrative and still life, with floral subjects my favourite. Through the post-processing techniques that I have learnt from Sebastian Michaels, I often blend my original images with my painted and photographed textures. I am aiming for a different approach that combines my love of fine art and the lens. I hope the resulting photo artistry offers something multi-layered, both in terms of what people see and how they respond. Tiyana Marjanovic

http://www.tiyanaart.com/

Historian of Film and Art, Photographer, Painter, Gamer and above all a dreamer. Latest work portraits photographs snap-taken by individuals and friends. Best described in words of others: “Through vivid colours and intuitive painterly sophistication, Tiyana’s work transcends the viewer to an imagined world that bleeds with nostalgic undertones. She has managed to arrest sacred moments whilst maintaining delicate movements of the details - something so slight as flowers dancing in a light breeze. The escape is familiarity created for a place existing without reference.” Dea Vanagan See more of Tiyana’s work on website: http://www.tiyanaart.com/

James Hurley

James is a photo digital artist that captures landscapes photographs as well as painterly portraits either in the comfort of his home or on location. He is based in Huntingdon, near Cambridge, and has a passion for incorporating his emotions and frustrations into surreal artwork as well as creating landscapes and portraits. James is a self-taught photographer who has learnt Photoshop by taking a number of online course hosted by Sebastian Michaels. His work has received a number of awards from the Heaven art gallery in the USA during September and October of 2017, since then he has had artwork appear in a new conceptual virtual art gallery created by Curat10n Open Art and in the My Creative Images magazine. James’s current focus switched from submitting work to gallery’s to further explore and enhance his photography skills and further develop his own photo digital artistic style which incorporates lots of colour and / or textures. As a photo digital artist his customers come from two distinct groups, those that want a portrait photograph taken and then blended into a scene and those that want some unique artwork to decorate their home or office. Both have one thing in common, they are looking for something different, something created specially for them, something that they can be proud to hang on their wall and show off on their social media pages, such as the examples shown here. If that sounds like you then get in contact with James, who would be happy to work with you and create something special just for you. Email: James@jameshurley.art
