Editor’s notes Welcome to the February issue 10 of the “My Creative Images” magazine. One of the things that excites me about photo digital art is the way in which you can combine it with mixed media art. Over these last few weeks I have been experimenting with ways of turning a digital composite into a physical work of art. This has resulted in not only hours in front of the PC cutting, blending and painting but days in the kitchen gluing, moulding, waxing, painting and applying embellishments and metal leaf. Wow the satisfaction of turning a digital image into a physical piece of art is, well its intoxicating and highly addictive! in the insert above, this is a work in progress and I have been using wax,

Vivien Capper Hello. My name’s Vivien and I’m from the beautiful county of Kent, England though currently living and working near Rome in delightful Italy with its exciting, lively way of life and vibrant colours and designs. I started out as an artist in 1982 developing Indian ink artwork of a variety of subjects especially figurative artwork and abstract floral designs. I then progressed into creative photography and digital artistry thanks to Sebastian Michael’s courses at ‘Photoshop Artistry’ and the advanced course ‘Awake’. My inspiration is drawn from my love of nature, figurative artwork and Italian design. I love using many textures, patterns and colours. I’m thrilled to have some of my artwork in various publications including: Living the Photo Artistic Life no.38 April 2018 and My Creative Images issues 1 to 5 (April-August 2018). I also gained an ‘honourable mention’ in the Shift Art Challenge in April 2018. More recently I was the winner of the Shift Art Challenge with a piece ‘The Mysterious Cobbled Street. Bernie Tuffs - cover artist February 2019 Hello! I’m Bernie and I live in the little seaside town of Margate and having lived here all my life, I couldn’t live anywhere else now! I’m continually inspired by the scenery here, with skies and light that so excited famous artist J. W. Turner, who said of this area, “…the skies over Thanet are the loveliest in all Europe”. Apparently, a love of the sea stayed with him all his life and I can well understand that! Painting with light holds a real attraction for me - the gentle light that is still strong enough to dispel darkness. I’ve always been arty, progressing from childhood sketching, through gouache and then oil painting, then paper crafting and scrapbooking which led me to digital scrapbooking and finally to Sebastian Michaels and Photo Artistry. Now I feel I’m home and am having so much fun with my art! If you would like to see some more of my art visit my Website

Norma Slack I am a digital artist, writer and poet from beautiful Northern Ireland. I currently live in County Down, within sight of the majestic Mourne Mountains. I have been an enthusiastic photographer for many years but it was only when I discovered digital art that I finally felt able to create images that reflected both my emotions and vision. Every day I work towards improving my skills within the fascinating world of the digital workspace. For me it’s a place of magic, a place where I can give free reign to my imagination and create the type of art I feel connected to. About eighteen months ago I began to combine my new digital skills with my poetry and have recently published my first illustrated poetry book, Thunder In My Soul: a collection of illustrated poems. The book is now available at Amazon. It is a project I feel a strong emotional connection to and has been a labour of love. A free sample, along with a selection of my art, can be viewed on my website. You will also find me on Instagram @artbynormasue or on my Website

James Hurley The Artwork This is a digital mixed media grunge piece created from a stock portrait photograph I purchased from Envarto Elements, overlayed with textures, text, colours and other photographs from Shutterstock. What Inspired its creation The inspiration was from one of my own landscape photographs, see inset below, and the dramatic changes in weather that you encounter in the Cumbrian Fells. More about me As a photo digital artist my customers come from two distinct groups, those that want a portrait photograph taken and then blended into a scene and those that want some unique artwork to decorate their home or office. Both have one thing in common, they are looking for something different, something created specially for them, something that they can be proud to hang on their wall and show off on their social media pages. If that sounds like you then get in contact with me, let’s chat about what you are looking for and see if we can create something special just for you. The Claude Trew Interview
by VivienJane
My C r eative Imag e s – B e h in d t h e sce n es
This month I’m pleased to interview Claude Trew, UK based photographer and digital artist. Her artwork is best described in her own words: ‘My work is a mix of Photography and Digital enhancement’. I first met Claude on the Awake UK Facebook group and had recently seen her beautiful work on the cover of the December issue of My Creative Images. I was amazed at the variety and beauty of her artwork. I’ve asked if she’ll share some of her creative processes with us and where she gets her inspiration from.
When and how did you first become interested in photography and digital art? During the 70’s I was given an Olympus Trip as a Christmas present. I loved that camera and took many photos with it of family, animals - whatever attracted my eye. Unfortunately I always kept it on automatic and never progressed further. About 14 years ago with the family no longer dependent on me, I decided it was time to go forward and enrolled in a photographic course at the local college as an evening student. This was the best move in my photographic journey and for many years I have been very happily entering competitions held by the local camera club, with some success and some disappointment.
I still enjoy going to the camera club and entering competitions. However, with so much software at my finger tips, I wanted to expand my creative skills by using conventional photos as building blocks for more artistic imagery. It is said that when you are ready to learn the teacher will appear. So, in 2016, when I saw the “Photo Artistry” course advertised it was an answer to my prayers. I have learnt so much with the “Photo Artistry” and “Awake” courses, I will always be grateful to Sebastian Michaels for creating these courses. I am now looking forward to improving my Photoshop artistic skills further with the “Kaizen” course.
Can you tell us about your creative process and where you get your inspiration from? All my images start from one or more photographs. I have a very vivid imagination, probably coming from reading many books, particularly science fiction and fantasy. I have visions of various situations I read in books and this is the source of my inspiration. At this stage in my creative life, I still try to tell a story in my composites, probably because I still think with my camera club photographer’s hat on. I am starting to learn that ART can make an impact on the viewer without telling a story. Just use any techniques you are familiar with to achieve this goal. My first love is animal photography - domestic and wildlife. I love photographing them then enhancing their images digitally. I will spend hours trying different colours, backgrounds, textures etc. to make an artistic image out of an ordinary photo.
What equipment and software you use and which item is indispensable in your studio? All my photos are taken, at the moment, with a Nikon DSLR. Hopefully in the near future I will progress to a mirrorless camera and also a mobile phone with a fantastic camera.
My PC is my best friend for working on the images. Most of the processing is done in Photoshop CC 2019 (at the moment). Sometime I experiment with special effects from On One and/or Topaz to enhance the images further.
What’s the next step in your artistic life?
Keep creating, keep learning as long as I enjoy it. Also to restructure my website to show my artistic work. What would your advice be to an aspiring photographer/digital photo artist? We all need to start from somewhere, it doesn’t matter if you are new to the digital world or if you are already in the photographic/artistry business. You must go at your own pace. This is an ongoing process, your own journey in the artistic world. If you keep creating, you will improve - whatever standard you start at. Never give up, take one step at a time and enjoy the journey. It’s very rewarding.
As you can see, Claude puts a lot of time and passion into her projects and artwork and produces some really great pieces. For more information contact Claude at claude@pooc.net If you are interested in advertising or showcasing your photo art in My Creative Images the guidelines are on the inside back cover of the magazine.
Dawn Spears I have been producing art in various forms for over 30 years. I have worked in many different media, from watercolour to ink, graphite, and coloured pencil. More recently I have turned to photography and digital art and used these skills to branch out into book covers as well. I absolutely love coming up with ideas to do authors’ words justice. Every one of my book covers are original art pieces. I create them using a mixture of my own photographs and artwork which I blend with my own 3D renders. I try to avoid the use of stock images, meaning my buyers can be 100% assured that their book cover is completely and utterly unique. Samantha Wells Hi, my name is Sam, and I live on a lovely little island in the U.K. called the Isle of Wight. I’m not good with words, images are my thing. So this will be short and sweet. I started with photography 4 years ago. Then 2 years ago I found 3D art which I am totally addicted to as it gives me so much more freedom to make any art I can imagine. I tend to flit from one technique/subject to another as I find new and exciting ways to enhance my art work. I pour everything I have into each and every image I create. Facebook is my preferred social platform: https://www.facebook.com/SamanthaWellsFineArt/ I would love to see you there, and I hope you will enjoy my art work and stay with me on my art journey.
