Feline Friday Adoptable ‘Cool Cats’

ADOPTABLE PET OF THE WEEK DARKE COUNTY — Hopper, a three-year old Boxer Mix, is very sweet boy who knows how to sit, shake, and down. Hopper is very fond of treats, and doesn’t seem to mind the company of other dogs. Hopper weighs about 68 pounds and has been given his Lepto/Parvo/Distemper and Bordetella vaccines. He is heartworm negative, and has been dewormed. The adoption fee is $80, cash or check. Dog “meet and greets” are encouraged when considering a new, four-legged addition to the family! ‘Buzzing’ signals Brood X cicadas return Staff report

DARKE COUNTY — Exciting news has been “buzzing” around lately because the cicadas are coming! This year is a special year, Brood X, 17-year periodical cicadas will emerge as well as our annual dog day cicadas. These cicadas are ½”-1” smaller in size than our annual cicadas. They are also black and orange in color compared to the greenish colored cicadas we’re used to seeing. Brood X cicadas will emerge when the soil at four inches depth reaches approximately 64 degrees, usually after a nice warm rain.

In wet, muddy areas when preparing to emerge, the nymphs will form mud chimneys that prevent their hole from backfilling. These mud chimneys are a sign of where cicadas are under the ground and that they will be emerging soon. The cicada life cycle has three stages: eggs, nymphs, and adults. After spending a long period underground as nymphs, the cicadas will emerge and molt one last time before becoming adults. Adult cicadas don’t bite, and have one mission: reproduce as quickly as possible. What better way to woo a mate than to sing at the top or your lungs,

or in a cicada’s case, at the top of their tymbal? Cicadas have a special organ, the tymbal, that they flex to produce the loud buzzing noise we’re familiar with. All of Brood X will emerge in the same week or two, meaning it will be cicada mania! Don’t worry, cicadas aren’t locusts which means they don’t have chewing mouth parts, so garden crops are safe. Cicadas have sucking, straw-like mouth parts that they use to pierce trees and eat fluids from tree twigs and woody shrubs. Typically, any damage to trees from cicadas comes from the egg laying

process. Mature trees will experience very minimal damage from cicadas, however, if planning to plant a new tree this spring, it might be best to wait until after the cicadas have passed through. Cover young trees with netting will prevent cicadas from laying eggs in the branches. This phenomenon won’t happen again for another 17 years, in 2038. While they may be noisy, cicadas are beneficial. They prune mature trees, aerate the soil, and once they die, their bodies serve as an important source of nitrogen for growing trees. They also provide a food source for animals with

CARSON HENRY BONER GREENVILLE — On March 9, 2009, the world got a little brighter when Carson H. Boner was born in Greenville, Ohio, to Tyler Boner and the late Kayla Schaefer. In his 11 years on earth, he showed everyone who knew him what it meant to be a caring, loving person, with a big heart and silly sense of humor. He was in 6th grade at Greenville Middle School, where he had played football and was in the band. When he wasn’t at school, he liked to be outdoors, and go fishing and exploring; he was “fearlessly adventurous.” Carson loved to show others things he had learned, especially teaching his little brothers. He liked to play video games, loved animals, and hanging out with his family and friends. He received his angel wings on February 26, 2021, and although we were not ready for him to leave, the memories we have with him will be cherished, always. In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his uncle Thomas (Little Tommy) Boner; grandpa, Howard (Little Howie) Schaefer III; greatgrandparents, Gary Bickel, Bobby Dynes, Mike Rihm, Phil and Cora Boner, and Mick Sowry.

He leaves behind his father, Tyler Boner; older sister, Hayli Boner; two younger brothers, Zephyr and Jaxson Boner; aunts and uncles, John and MaKenzie Boner, Kody and Lydia Schaefer, Alexander Parkman, and Evan Singleman; cousins, Sarah Boner, Christopher Boner, and Adalee Boner; grandparents, Jackie and Daniel Wittler, Tom and Tracy Boner, and Laura Schaefer; great-grandparents, Donna Dynes, Connie Rihm, Alice Sowry, Howard Schaefer II and Kathy Schaefer, Deb and Joe Lusczek; and numerous other family and friends. Hosler signs with Mount St. Joseph By Gaylen Blosser DarkeCountyMedia.com

PITSBURG – Franklin Monroe senior, Brendan Hosler the son of Travis and Danielle Hosler signed to play baseball for the NCAA Division III Mount St. Joseph Lions baseball program while continuing his education with studies in Special Education. “It has been my dream since I was a little boy and started playing baseball,” Hosler said. “It’s been the biggest goal in my life so far and I am really excited.” “Brendan has been a hard worker for us and he is going to do really well at Mount St. Josephs,” said Franklin Monroe baseball coach Tyler Zimmerman. “He is going to do really well at Mount St. Josephs.” “He is a good pitcher, has a lot of command of his stuff, real strong working inside the zone, inside and out,” added Zimmerman. “I believe he is going to be successful for them.” Mount St. Joseph is a member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference including Anderson, Bluffton, Defiance, Earlham, Franklin, Hanover, Manchester, Rose-Hulman and Transylvania. The Lions closed out the 2019-2020 COVID season with a 4-6-1 record that included 32 cancellations with 28 consecutive cancellations bringing the

season to an end. Franklin Monroe’s Hosler has his high school senior baseball season ahead of him where he not only pitches but is used as a position play as well while taking his turn at the plate. “Brendan is going to be playing a little bit at third base this year,” said Coach Zimmerman. “We might even use him behind the plate a little bit but his focus is pitching.” “Catching has helped me understand the game and understand the pitcher catcher relationship a little bit more, understanding how big of a deal it is to have a good catcher back there,” noted Hosler. “We have a great one – Gabe is a great catcher so having him the last couple of years has been really nice.” “Mount St. Joseph is looking at him as strictly a pitcher,” Zimmerman stated. “He is an athlete.

He can hit, he can play the field so if Mount St. Joseph has an opening and needs him, I’m sure he would be able to fill that void.” “I would like to maybe be given a shot but I think they would like to see me on the mound,” Hosler said of his hitting and fielding skills. “You never know so we’ll see what happens.” “I see him as a starter,” Zimmerman said. “He has good durability, he can go long sessions, I think of him as more of a long inning guy – 6-7 innings. He will be looking to find a spot on their rotation early on.” Coach Zimmerman believes Hosler has the tools, motivation and attitude to make an impact playing for Mount St. Joseph University. “Brendan is a real nice kid,” he said. “Easy to coach, takes instructions well, takes criticism well

He is one of those guys that is there all winter before we even start real practices, just working trying to get better.” “The first year is going to be a lot of learning, taking it all in but hopefully by my second and third year I’ll be helping the team win and getting us to the playoffs,” Hosler stated. “My goal is to be a starter and to be top three in the rotation at least by my sophomore year and try to do what I can as a freshman.” “I command the zone pretty well,” he added. “I throw a lot of off speed and that is where I can get a lot of hitters out with my off speed and my location.” Hosler took time to thank the many that helped him reach his goal of taking his baseball skills to the next level. “I want to thank my parents,” Hosler said. “My dad coaching me since I was young, my mom has always motivated me, all the staff here at the school – they have done a phenomenal job. The coaches have put me in the positions to succeed all throughout my life and of course my teammates. My teammates mean the world to me. All those people have helped me get to where I am today.” Contact Darke County Media Sports Editor Gaylen Blosser at gblosser@ aimmediamidwest.com or 937-5690122

Versailles win over Preble Shawnee lands Tigers in fifth consecutive district championship game By Gaylen Blosser DarkeCountyMedia.com

CLAYTON – The Versailles Tigers advanced in OHSAA DIII tournament play with a 66-56 win over the Preble Shawnee Arrows. “Our kids are excited to be moving on,” said Versailles coach, Travis Swank. “We really never gave up on ourselves at all throughout the year – definitely wasn’t a successful season like we expected it to be. We had a lot of adversity early in the year, a lot of inexperience at the varsity level. Those kids never gave up on themselves, their teammates, the coaches and that is huge. Our kids want to play into March and that is what we are going to do.” Behind the first period scoring of Versailles junior Jaydon Litten, the Tigers jumped out to a 17-12 lead over Preble Shawnee with Litten knocking down three 3-pointers while going 2-2 at the charity stripe to lead the Tigers with 11 points in the opening quarter. Versailles took period No. 2 by a 15-13 score with Litten burying his fourth triple of the night, hitting his first 2-point basket of the game and making 1-1 at the line sending the teams to the break with the Tigers leading 32-25. “We tried to man them up early on and got in foul trouble a little bit early,” said Swank. “We went to our 2-3 zone and that seemed to bother them for a good while. That’s where we made a little bit of a run in the first half.” The Tigers pushed its lead to 47-35 at 1:25 in the third with the teams closing out third quarter play with Versailles 1-point better outscoring the Arrows 17-16 to lead 49-41 with one period to play. Versailles got balanced third quarter scoring with five players making the scorebook led by sophomore Connor Stonebraker’s 5 points including a 3-pointer, 4 points each from Jared DeMange and Jaydon Litten and 2 points apiece from Eli and Noah McEldowney. Period No. 4 saw Preble Shawnee make it a 4 point game with 4:58 showing before Versailles stepped up play at both ends of the court with Stonebraker making his defensive presence known and Jaydon Litten nailing his fifth triple of the night while going 5-6 at the line giving the Tigers a 10 point victory punching its ticket to the district championship game. “We threw zone-man and the box-and-one in the second half on Shrout so we kind of threw everything at them,” Swank stated. “Luckily we came out of here with a 10 point win.” “Connor (Stonebraker) got some key rebounds in the second half,” continued Coach Swank. “He frustrated them for a good stretch there in the second half with his size and his athleticism. They

were taking away a lot of things in the middle and they were really keying on Connor to take away his presence inside the post but we had other guys step up and were able to get to the basket as well. This is a team game and this was definitely a team win here tonight.” Jaydon Litten led Versailles and all scorers with a game high 29 points. Preble Shawnee freshman, Mason Shrout led the Arrows with 25 points and Shawnee senior captain Bryce Singleton added 19 points in his final game. “Very good skill out there on the floor tonight,” noted Coach Swank. “The Shrout kid and the Singleton kid – they are loads and that is why they have had such a successful year. They do a lot of good things offensively but we have some kids that can put the ball into the basket ourselves.” “Jaydon (Litten) had a really great night here tonight – shot extremely well and then we had three other guys hovering around double figures,” Swank added. “We talked about that all year. We need three guys around double digits every single night to compete. I was told that from Scott McEldowney a long time ago… you have three guys in double figures there is a good chance you are going to win and we were right around that mark tonight.” Coach Swank talked about his team advancing to the District Championship game while sporting a subpar 10-14 season record. “Our schedule is probably one of the hardest for our division,” Swank said following the team’s

win. “We are not scared to go play anybody but the whole problem with this year, we have one varsity retuning and really Eli (McEldowney) didn’t see a lot of minutes last year as well so really this is his first full year.” “Everybody out there is learning on the fly and you cannot teach experience, you just got to go out there and earn it on the court,” continued McEldowney. “These guys really earned it this year through trials and tribulations throughout the whole year. It hasn’t been easy but I think that is what has gotten us to this point, having those failures early on and staying together has led us to the success now that we are obtaining here at the end of the season.” Versailles returns to the OHSAA DIII district championship game for the fifth consecutive season having won 2 championships and finished district runner-up 2 times. “This is our fifth year in a row going to district and I remember the two losses more than I remember the two wins,” Coach Swank concluded. “I don’t want that feeling again – it doesn’t leave a good taste in my mouth and I don’t want that taste for the kids.” Versailles plays Cincinnati’s Mariemont Warriors; 55-52 winners over Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy; Saturday, March 6th at Northmont High School with a 2 p.m. start time. Online school the right choice for Greenville’s Clark family

The musical Clark family (pictured left to right) are Castle, Shannon, Brittany, Nevaeh, and Island. Travelling as a family, the Clarks have all three children enrolled in the Ohio Connections Academy, an Ohio public online school option. The Clark’s band, Shannon Clark and the Sugar, captured international attention with their 2020 single, Carry Me.

GREENVILLE — With the promise of sunnier days and milder weather, March signals the beginning of Ohio’s open enrollment and EdChoice options for the 2021-2022 school year, giving families a variety of educational alternatives to explore. While COVID has kept many students out of the tra-

ditional classroom, some Ohio families are taking a second look at the freedoms afforded by this new hybrid style of learning. For one Greenville family, going “non-traditional” has been the right choice, inspiring a unique blend of music, family and school, where the virtual classroom has become part of living and loving life. Meeting in 2004 while playing in bands and perform-

ing on stage, Darke County natives Shannon and Brittany Clark married, settled in Greenville, and welcomed their first daughter, Nevaeh. As their daughter grew, the couple began considering what kind of school options would work best for their growing family. By 2010, the Clarks took a chance on a new “hybrid” style of public See SWEET | 8B

American Legion 353 donates to Ansonia schools By Nathaniel Kubik DarkeCountyMedia.com

ANSONIA — The American Legion Post 353 in Ansonia made a $5,000 donation to Ansonia Local Schools on Monday evening. The donation was made to bolster the new $3 million pre-school and field house located directly behind the original school building. The donation will be primarily used for the athletic facility. The Ansonia Legion has made donations to the athletic facility in the past through the purchase of a large American flag displayed above the basketball courts in the facility. Matt Macy, Ansonia Athletic Director, stated that the legion has essentially paid for all of the weight lifting and other athletic equipment in the building. “I can’t thank the local legion post enough for their generous donations,” said Macy. “Whenever we need something, they’re always there to help. What they’ve done for our school and the kids is great, and their dedication to the Ansonia schools and community is nothing short of amazing.” Jim Kammer, spokesman for the Ansonia Legion Post, reiterated the primary goals of the legion’s charitable donations. He stated that the Ansonia post retains the focus of the wider American Legion family in their dedication to veteran’s affairs and rehabilitation, national security, Americanism, and children and youth. Kammer noted that the Ansonia post encompasses all four pillars, but are more heavily focused on children and youth. “One of our primary goals is to support the local youth, whether it be through donations to the school or elsewhere, we are here to help in anyway we can,” said Kammer. “All of us here today are Ansonia graduates, so we feel a sense of duty to the younger generations and we are always happy to help. Cobb talks work on Pacific Threat

Local author releases eighth novel By Nathaniel Kubik DarkeCountyMedia.com

GREENVILLE — Local author and pastor Chris Cobb, also known by his pen name C.H. Cobb, recently released his new novel titled Pacific Threat (2020). The book, a work of fiction grounded in historical

events, is the fourth entry in Cobb’s Falcon Series, and chronicles events leading up to the 1991 Soviet coup attempt of Mikhail Gorbachev’s administration in hopes of preserving the last semblances of the U.S.S.R. The book can be purchased on Amazon, at the Bread of Life Bookstore in Greenville, and is

available for borrowing at Greenville Public Library. Cobb began taking his writing career seriously in 2002, and started by composing a 200,000 word sequel to a book written by famed American novelist and short story writer Louis L’Amour. Understandably, Cobb said, the L’Amour estate would not allow a sequel, but it was the beginning of his longform, novel style writings.

While deciding what to do with his manuscript, Cobb wrote Outlander Chronicles: Phoenix, which in 2011 became his first published novel. The sequel to Phoenix, Outlander Chronicles: Pegasus, was released in 2018. Since then, Cobb has published eight novels and one non-fiction book titled A Prayer of Moses (2013) See COBB | 11B

As a Wave 1 participant, the Coalition for a Healthy Darke County, the county’s local health and wellness collaborative, is working with the National Institutes of Health’s HEALing Communities Study to identify key service areas where grant monies can make a difference in the lives of those with OUD, and ultimately, to decrease the number of opioid overdose deaths by 40 percent. For more information, see www. CoalitionDarkeCounty.com

“This is one of the largest grants Darke County has ever received to combat OUD,” says Dr. Laurie White, Director of Behavioral Health and Wellness Services at Family Health, “and we are working diligently with community partners to ensure this funding will significantly benefit and impact our county for years to come.” Dr. White leads the local Intervention Committee, a group of service providers who work together to explore key priorities and evidence-based practices meant to expand services and support. Another key component of the grant involves reducing stigma toward those who battle substance use disorders.

She continues, “We need to move past this stigma, and to recognize addiction as the disease it is, in order to save the lives of local community members who need our support.”

GREENVILLE — Darke County families who struggle with opioid use disorder (OUD) will soon start to see the benefits of over $900,000 in grant funding rolling out within the community. As a Wave 1 participant in the National Institutes of Health’s HEALing Communities Study, the Coalition for a Healthy Darke County, the county’s local health and wellness collaborative, is working with grant employees, hired locally by The Ohio State University and University of Cincinnati. Their goal is to identify key service areas where grant monies can make a difference in the lives of those with OUD, and ultimately, to decrease the number of opioid overdose deaths by 40 percent. You’ll write and then… Are you the person who observes and can describe what you see, hear, smell, touch? The man holding the “Help Me” sign at the freeway entrance? The sound of the cricket in your basement? The smell of burning bacon or the toddler who needs a diaper change? The feel of the patchwork quilt your grandmother made? Are you the repository of family stories? Know that research has shown that writing has power: the power to heal, to enhance creativity, to bring joy, to preserve those ideas that come in fleeting moments. I’m teaching creative writing this semester at Edison State Community College, and I’m sharing two of my students’ microfiction stories with you (100 to 300 words). You, too, can do this in 15 minutes or so. You begin with an understanding of something: a person, a story, a setting, a point of view. From there, your imagination takes flight and the words come. You can be using a yellow legal pad, a computer, the back of an envelope. And you write. Don’t be concerned at this point about spelling, punctuation, grammar. All of that can be addressed later. Tell the story as only you can. If it’s a family story, pay no attention to anyone who says, “But that’s not the way it happened” or “You shouldn’t use our family in your stories.” I want to share with you two of the very-short stories my students have written recently. I think you’ll like them. ——— INTERROGATION By

I grabbed the cord and plugged it into the port on the back of my neck. I felt better as the energy flowed into my body. I knew I couldn’t do this forever. One day, my battery would completely fail, and I wouldn’t be able to hold my charge anymore. When that day came, I would be replaced by a younger, prettier version. ——— My students often use science fiction in their stories, but always with the human dimension. Evans has explored a society of the future where youth and beauty continue to be valued commodities. Are you ready to write? Just do it. Writers enjoy commentary, so if you want to encourage these young writers, send me an email, and I’ll forward it to them. Vivian B. Blevins. The healing power of music Nobody likes having a needle stuck into their arm; however, nobody wants to get seriously ill, either. Therefore, those Brits receiving their COVID vaccine at Salisbury Cathedral get extra incentive to line up for their shots; they have the pleasure of enjoying music played on the sanctuary’s magnificent 1876 organ while they wait. England’s National Health service has signed contracts with dozens of large venues to operate as vaccination centers, including soccer stadiums, sports centers, and concert arenas; the Cathedral is a perfect space for the vaccinations, providing a large drafty area that lowers the risk of virus transmission. The music is a bonus that converts a medical visit into an enjoyable event, also creating a slight problem — patients don’t want to move on, often overstaying the required 15 minute observation period following the injection to further enjoy the concert. Salisbury Cathedral’s Director of Music David Halls speaks of the building’s 800-year history with awe, remembering all those through the centuries who came to the cathedral “to be healed or to find some sort of

Bill Trent hangs up whistle By Gaylen Blosser DarkeCountyMedia.com

NEW CARLISLE – Bill Trent is hanging up his whistle after a long OHSAA high school basketball officiating career. “I’ve been 40 years officiating 3,500 Ohio High School basketball games,” said the 76 year old Trent. The West Carrollton resident has spent many days and nights traveling to Darke County to cover high schools basketball games and closed out a long career officiating the Greenville Lady Wave’s OHSAA DII tournament win over the Urbana Lady Hillclimbers at Tecumseh High School. “There are so many,” Trent said of highlights throughout his career. “I have had good games and bad games. When I started out it was all two man and the three man has saved me over the years but other than that it is something I have enjoyed all these years.” The pleasant Trent has not been one to call technical fouls on players and coaches, a trait he is proud of. “I always try to talk to the players and coaches and not let the situation escalate,” noted Trent. “The coaches and me all get along.” “They tell me I’m the publicity guy,” Trent added with a chuckle. “I do a lot of talking.” Trent has seen changes over his long career but still believes in our youth, coaches and officials. “When I was starting out there were some tough coaches,” Trent said of the old Bobby Knight coaching style. “You had the Staley boys and all that but you do your job and the coaches appreciate it.” “When is started out reffing I worked a lot of Dayton Public Leagues that had those good players back in the day, so it was fun but now days

I don’t enjoy it as much because it seems some of these kids don’t care about playing as much today.” “There are still some good kids playing and there are good refs coming on,” continued Trent. “This week on Facebook my wife asked me if I knew this coach. It was Coach Sagester from Tri-Village saying he hates to see me getting out because the older ones really appreciate the job they do as coaches.” Trent recently lost a good officiating friend, Bob Roach from Jamestown to COVID. The threesome of Trent, Roach and Brooks Lowe with more than 100 years of combined officiating service would often be seen on the same court calling an OHSAA high school basketball game. “I’m going to miss the game but I still may do a seventh and eighth grade real close to where I live,” concluded Trent, “but I am done with the varsity.” “He’s quitting every year but he’ll be back,” chuckled longtime officiating friend and OHSAA Officiating Hall of Fame member, Robert Juliano. “He’ll be back.” Contact Darke County Media Sports Editor Gaylen Blosser at gblosser@ aimmediamidwest.com or 937-5690122

Men’s Virility Restored in Clinical Trial; 275% More Blood Flow in 5 Minutes A newly improved version of America’s best-selling male performance enhancer gives 70-year-old men the bedroom performance they enjoyed in their 30’s.

America’s best-selling sexual performance enhancer just got a lot better.

Third grader, Island Clark (pictured), presented his project at the Ohio Connections Academy’s “Invention Convention” in 2020, a program that challenges students to design creative solutions to problems. Working alongside his grandfather, Island designed and built a portable windmill and received an honorable mention in the statewide competition.

It’s the latest breakthrough for nitric oxide – the molecule that makes erections possible by increasing blood flow to your penis. Nitric oxide won the Nobel Prize in 1998. It’s why “the little blue pill” works. More than 200,000 studies confirm it’s the key to superior sexual performance. And this new discovery increases nitric oxide availability resulting in even quicker, stronger and longer-lasting erections. One double-blind, placebo-controlled study (the “gold-standard” of research) involved a group of 70-year-old-men. They didn’t exercise. They didn’t eat healthy. And researchers reported their “nitric oxide availability was almost totally compromised,” resulting in blood flow less than HALF of a man in peak sexual health. But only five minutes after the first dose their blood flow increased 275%, back to levels of a perfectly healthy 31-year-old man! “It’s amazing,” remarks nitric oxide expert Dr. Al Sears. “That’s like giving 70-year-old men the sexual power of 30-yearolds.”

WHY SO MUCH EXCITEMENT? Despite the billions men spend annually on older nitric oxide therapies, there’s one well-known problem with them. They work.

don’t

always

A very distinguished and awarded doctor practicing at a prestigious Massachusetts hospital who has studied Nitric Oxide for over 43 years states a “deficiency of bioactive nitric oxide… leads to impaired endothelium-dependent vasorelaxation.” In plain English, these older products may increase levels of nitric oxide. But that’s only half the battle. If it’s not bioactively available then your body can’t absorb it to produce an erection. Experts simply call it the nitric oxide “glitch.” And until now, there’s never been a solution.

NEXT GENERATION NITRIC OXIDE FORMULA FLYING OFF SHELVES Upon further research, America’s No. 1 men’s health expert Dr. Al Sears discovered certain nutrients fix this “glitch” resulting in 275% better blood flow.

OH-70226909

He’s combined those nutrients with proven nitric oxide boosters in a new formula called Primal Max Red. In clinical trials, 5,000 mg is required for satisfying sexual performance. Primal Max Red contains

A new discovery that increases nitric oxide availability was recently proven in a clinical trial to boost blood flow 275% resulting in even quicker, stronger and longer-lasting erections. a bigger, 9,000 mg per serving dose. It’s become so popular, he’s having trouble keeping it in stock.

Physiology study, one resulted in a 30 times MORE nitric oxide. And these increased levels lasted up to 12 hours.

Dr. Sears is the author of more than 500 scientific papers. Thousands of people listened to him speak at the recent Palm Beach Health & Wellness Festival featuring Dr. Oz. NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath recently visited his clinic, the Sears Institute for Anti-Aging Medicine.

“I measured my nitric oxide levels, you can buy a test kit from Amazon,” reports 48-year-old Jeff O. “Monday night I showed depleted.”

Primal Max Red has only been available for a few months — but everyone who takes it reports a big difference. “I have the energy to have sex three times in one day, WOW! That has not happened in years. Oh, by the way I am 62,” says Jonathan K. from Birmingham, AL.

HOW IT WORKS Loss of erection power starts with your blood vessels. Specifically, the inside layer called the endothelium where nitric oxide is made. The problem is various factors THICKEN your blood vessels as you age. This blocks availability causing the nitric oxide “glitch.” The result is difficulty in getting and sustaining a healthy erection. How bad problem?

is

the

Researcher shows the typical 40-year-old man absorbs 50% less nitric oxide. At 50, that drops to 25%. And once you pass 60 just a measly 15% gets through. To make matters worse, nitric oxide levels start declining in your 30’s. And by 70, nitric oxide production is down an alarming 75%. Primal Max Red is the first formula to tackle both problems. Combining powerful nitric oxide boosters and a proven delivery mechanism that defeats the nitric oxide “glitch” resulting in 275% better blood flow and stronger erections. There’s not enough space here to fully explain how it works, so Dr. Sears will send anyone who orders Primal Max Red a free special report that explains everything.

MORE CLINICAL RESULTS Nutrients in Primal Max Red have logged impressive results. In a Journal of Applied

Then he used ingredients in Primal Max Red and, “The results were off the charts. I first woke around 3 a.m. on Tuesday with a throbbing boner. My nitric oxide levels measured at the top end of the range.”

FREE BONUS TESTOSTERONE BOOSTER Every order also gets Dr. Sears testosterone boosting formula Primal Max Black for free. “If you want passionate ‘rip your clothes off’ sex you had in your younger days, you need nitric oxide to get your erection going. And testosterone for energy and drive,” says Dr. Sears. “You get both with Primal Max Red and Primal Max Black.”

HOW TO GET PRIMAL MAX To secure free bottles of Primal Max Black and get the hot, new Primal Max Red formula, buyers should contact the Sears Health Hotline at 1-800-576-8987 within the next 48 hours. “It’s not available in drug stores yet,” says Dr. Sears. “The Hotline allows us to ship directly to the customer.” Dr. Sears feels so strongly about Primal Max, all orders are backed by a 100% money-back guarantee. “Just send me back the bottle and any unused product within 90 days from purchase date, and I’ll send you all your money back,” he says. The Hotline will be open for the next 48 hours. After that, the phone number will be shut down to allow them to restock. education through the Ohio Connections Academy (OCA), an online, tuition-free public school option open to Ohio all families. Now, over a decade later, the Clarks couldn’t be happier with that initial decision, having also enrolled their son, Island, and daughter, Castle, in the OCA program since kindergarten. “My husband and I met playing music and we traveled a lot pursuing that love, so when we had kids, we maintained that as much as we could, and continue even today to travel and play music around the country. The kids come with us as we tour, and we often take extended vacations with our whole family,” said Brittany. “We would not have been able to continue this lifestyle with a traditional brick and mortar school.” In 2019, when their daughter, Nevaeh, joined the group, the family formed a new band , Shannon Clark and the Sugar. The Clarks’ unique sound, described as “Midwest Americana Soul,” was captured in their 2020 single, Carry Me, and recognized as a contender for Best Music Video in multiple film festivals across the U.S., U.K., and Canada. As a professional working musician, Brittany considered a wide variety of school options before choosing to go virtual. “When searching for schools for my first daughter to enter kindergarten, I looked for what the best method would be…traditional school, Montessori, or online. I even thought about making up my own curriculum. Once I finally found Ohio Connections Academy, I knew it was that way for our family to go,”explained Brittany. “I loved how available all the kid’s teachers would be, the lesson plans were great, and they had so many electives that the kids could take part in. They also have normal state testing each year, which I appreciated, that way I could be sure that they were learning at a standard level that their peers were. That was my main concern.” Now, after many years of participating in the OCA program, the Clarks enjoy a balance between school time, home life, and performing on the road, taking advantage of having opportunities to visit many locations of historic and cultural significance. “The flexibility of an online school allows us to have the freedoms to

“I think homeschooling allows students to develop their own personalities and unique traits without being molded or pressured by other kids. I also think it allows kids to learn at different capacities, and speeds and allows each kid to venture toward their own interests and skill sets, I love it here and I wouldn’t change a thing.”

travel and tour,” said Brittany. “The kids have learned so much being on the road or traveling to different national parks all over the U.S., and are able to combine their reallife experience with their school education.” As a public online school, OCA encourages and supports enhanced learning opportunities, which is built into the curriculum for each grade level. “The school is great about hosting field trips several times a year that they call ‘Family Engagement Activities,’” explained Brittany. ”We have been all over the state for these day trips, and have loved visiting museums, zoos, and state parks all over Ohio. It’s really exciting to be invited to places all over the state instead of only places that are close to where we live.” In addition to being on the road performing, the Clarks are thankful that the online public school offers many course electives, clubs and extracurricular activities for each child to express and develop other academic interests, starting from kindergarten through high school. “Our son, who is in third grade, participated recently in the ‘Ohio Invention Convention,’ won an award, and was promoted to the state level, winning an ‘honorable mention’ for his invention,” said Brittany. “This was a huge deal for him and the school and his teachers were extremely supportive!” When asked about their experience of being schooled at home through OCA, the Clark children had many positive comments.“I love being able to make new friends and meet people at my school, and I love to be able to do school at home!” said six-year-old Castle, who is in kindergarten. Ten-year-old Island, who is in third grade, echoes his sister’s enthusiasm for learning at home. “You can do things like spend time with your family, talk about important stuff, and have a few snacks during lessons and be home. I love being able to go on vacations and take my school work with me while we travel.”

Nevaeh, the oldest of the Clark children, now a sophomore enrolled in Ohio’s College Credit Plus program, says she would definitely recommend the public online school option through OCA. “I think homeschooling allows students to develop their own personalities and unique traits without being molded or pressured by other kids. I also think it allows kids to learn at different capacities, and speeds and allows each kid to venture toward their own interests and skill sets,” said Nevaeh, adding, “ I love it here and I wouldn’t change a thing.” Shannon and Brittany are proud of all three of their talented children, and are thankful for the teachers and staff at OCA who have been with them every step of the way in their academic journey. “The most rewarding thing for me as a parent is to see them progress and reach milestones. Watching your child go from learning letters and words, to reading to you is quite rewarding. Also, I love to see how they have become so mature and responsible with making their school work a priority every day,” said Brittany. “We do a lot of classes from the computer, and we have live lessons where the kids log into an online room with their teachers and other classmates to discuss lessons. This is so great because the teachers are always so available and approachable via email, phone or live lesson rooms.” When asked what advice she would give to others who may be considering their school options for the 2021-2022 school year, Brittany thoughtfully responded, “I always encourage people to do what is best for their family, regardless what that option may be. If you are able to dedicate time to a home-school endeavor, the rewards will never stop. Most importantly, put your kids where you think they will thrive.” To learn more about the Clarks and their music, visit them on the web at www.shannonclarksugar. com/home. GREENVILLE — On Feb. 24, Oakley Place, an Enlivant community, hosted its second COVID-19 vaccine clinic. This is the first step toward opening our doors for indoor visitation. Visitors have been, and continue to come to Oakley Place every day. “We missed our loved ones when COVID first hit. After a while, it was nice to visit outside on the porch. And we’ve been visiting inside since fall. But THIS is going to be FANTASTIC…” said Sandy Baker, Community Relations Manager. “Resident personal apartment visitation is almost here. Our sister communities in other states are already doing it. With high immunization rates among our residents and proper protocols we be soon be able to do it too,” said Executive Director Nikki Nealeigh. Resident personal apartment visitation will be open to vaccinated visitors at Oakley Place as soon as Ohio Health officials issue an order loosening limitations for access to assisted livings in our state. In the meantime, indoor visits continue in a private dining room. Contrary to what many assume, visits are are not limited to family members. Church members, neighbors, friends, children, and even dogs are welcome. Just call for an appointment at 937-548-9521. A long standing member of the community, Oakley Place opened its doors

GREENVILLE — The Greenville Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPW) collected donations from its members at the organization’s last meeting in February. BPW presented a check to Annie Sonner, coordinator for the Shelter From Violence. A small air fryer and coffee pot were also needed by the shelter and were also donated by club members. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Shelter From Violence has seen a 30-percent reduction in its budget and BPW members wanted to step up to support women in this way.

headquarters.” Cobb said that in a very real sense, he authored this book out of a desire to honor military men and women, and their families, who make countless sacrifices on behalf of all U.S. citizens. He said part of it comes from his desire to honor father’s service in the navy, who in World War II, flew Grumman F6F Hellcats off carriers in the Pacific Ocean. To help write the book, Cobb interviewed Capt. James Fuqua, a retired Navy veteran who served for 24 years. Fuqua spent the last three years of his career as the commanding officer of the Lafayette Class ballistic missile submarine the U.S.S. Alexander Hamilton (SSBN 617). Cobb stated that Fuqua read his manuscript and helped him make the submarine scenes in the book more realistic and accurate to actual submarine warfare and life. He said his time spent with Capt. Fuqua is one of the things he treasures most about his time spent writing the book. When asked what the biggest hurdles were when writing the book, Cobb con-

firmed that he struggled in some areas due to his own lack of military experience. “While I’ve gotten marks for authenticity, it’s been at the cost of a great deal of research on military etiquette and training, ships, submarines, planes, and their sensors and weapon systems,” Cobb said. “I’ve read documents on Soviet naval doctrine and command structure, Soviet military training and political officers, as well as portions of books on submarine construction, and novels whose submarine scenes are counted by former submariners as very realistic. One of the challenges of this kind of research is making sure that it is all accurate to the time period of the story. I can’t very well put a radar system not deployed until the 90s on a ship in 1988.” Beyond military matters, Cobb also spent a significant amount of time researching intelligence issues and cultural matters, even down to reading declassified CIA documents on the Soviet mail system to ensure that his scenes involving Soviet mail censors were accurate. Aside from that, he, like most

novelists, struggled to come up with names for his characters due the differences in Slavic naming customs. “Every single detail, ranging from the model of a vehicle, to a highway route designation in Vladivostok, to even the flora and fauna in a scene required research — and often extensive research.” Cobb concluded. “I won’t claim that every single detail is accurate — but the vast majority of them are.” To conclude the interview, Cobb offered his thanks to everyone who helped him through the writing process. “My wife is wonderfully and enthusiastically engaged in my writing. She is my preliminary editor. With her help I correct many problems before the piece goes out to my beta readers or my main editor. It’s fun to discuss the tale together — she invariably has great ideas about where to go next,” Cobb said. “I am blessed to have a family member, my sister Elizabeth, who is a professional quality editor. Added to her literary skills are the facts that she speaks Russian fluently and spent some of the Cold War years as a Foreign
