Jordan urged the audience to fight for the values of life, liberty, freedom, “The values that matter most.” Both Ohio Supreme Court justices shared the need for a conservative court that allows the legislative and executive branches to do their jobs.

The Darke County Republicans also honored John Keller as the Republican of the Year. The award was originally accepted by his family at the Republican Hog Roast in the fall, but Keller was unable to attend. Keller said, “I will accept this award with great humility; knowing there are many people that are more just and deserving than myself. I will pledge to always keep supporting and encouraging young people to seek out conservative values and become interested and encourage them to get into politics.”

Gunshot victim flown to hospital By Jim Comer for AIM Media

GREENVILLE - The Greenville Police Department is investigating a Thursday evening shooting that resulted in one person being airlifted by Careflight to a Dayton hospital. At approximately 7:08 pm officers from the Greenville Police Department along with Greenville Township Rescue were dispatched to the 400 block of Central Avenue in regards to a male subject who suffered a gun shot wound to the shoulder and neck area. According to officers on the scene police have confirmed that a male subject was shot inside his residence on the 400 block of Central Avenue before he was able to make it outside and go from door to door in search of assistance. A neighbor, who wished to be identified only as Jamie, located a few doors south of the shooting was able to call 911 and give aid until emergency personnel arrived on the scene. “I was sitting in my living room and saw the gentleman come walking by and that he had his finger sticking in his neck and that on the side of his sweatshirt was all bloody. I walked out and asked him if he was all right and he was like… man, I was just shot.” According to the neighbor the victim, who identified himself as a 23 year old black male, stated he was shot after his father walked into the room with at least two guns and told the victim he was going to kill him. The father opened fire hitting the victim at least once. The Greenville Police Department is still in the early stages of the investigation and have no further details at this time. Further details will be released as they become available from the Greenville Police Department.

The district is working with Garmann Miller Architects to construct the facility, which will feature FFA classrooms, lab and greenhouse. There’s also space for addi-

Suspect with drugs reportedly on school property SUSPICIOUS PERSON On March 9 officers were dispatched to the area of Greenville High School in reference to a male subject trying to sell drugs. Officers found Christopher Brown, 18, at one of the shelter houses in Greenville City Park. The officers explained to Brown they had been called to the scene on a report that he was attempting sell drugs to students following an activity at the high school. While speaking with Brown officers could smell a strong odor of raw marijuana. Brown gave officers consent to search his bag, but refused to allow them to search his person. When Brown was told officers could smell raw marijuana and they would be conducting a search of his person, Brown turned and ran off. Officers pursued Brown, catching up to him when he

fell in mud. Brown began yelling obscenities at the officers for chasing him and causing his fall. Brown was escorted back to the shelter house where an officer searched his pockets and located a bag of green leafy vegetation along with a pipe containing burnt marijuana. When asked, Brown admitted the bag contained marijuana. Brown’s probation officer was contacted and told officers to cite him and then release him. Brown was issued two misdemeanor citations for obstructing official business and possession of a controlled substance. He was released and told to see his probation officer on March 11. Officers took the marijuana and pipe and placed them into property as evidence. On March 11, an officer spoke with three students at the high school about Brown being

on the grounds following the dance on March 9. Two students wrote statements indicating Brown was on school property with narcotics and actually showed the narcotics to the students. Another student verbally told the officer Brown showed the students the narcotics, but did not attempt to sell them anything. DUI On March 15 an officer observed a vehicle being operated northbound on Sycamore Street in the area of West Main Street. According to the police report, during a red light the vehicle entered the left turn lane and failed to use a turn signal. While sitting at the red light the operator turned on the right turn signal and turned right on West Main Street from the wrong lane. The operator then continued around the block back to where the officer first noticed the vehicle. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the alley between West Third Street and West Fourth Street just off of Vine Street. The officer approached the vehicle and could instantly smell an alcoholic beverage. The officer asked for the operator’s license, insurance and registration and while speaking with him, the officer could detect the odor of alcohol enhance when he spoke. His words also were slurred and his eyes were glossy. The driver was confirmed to be James Gilbert. The officer asked Gilbert if he had been drinking and he said he had one beer about 4 p.m. He also said he was coming from Danny’s Bar. According to the report, the officer saw Gilbert’s vehicle leaving a parking spot in front of Danny’s Bar prior the traffic violation. When attempting to show his insurance information from his cell phone, Gilbert could not get the photo to stop rotating on the screen long enough to let me see the information. The officer returned to his vehicle to check the information provided by Gilbert. When asked to perform field sobriety tests, Gilbert refused and also changed his story from having one beer to having a couple beers. The officer asked Gilbert to exit the vehicle and the odor of alcohol enhanced again. Gilbert was placed under arrest and was searched. He was placed in the back of the cruiser. Through LEADS/ NCIC it was confirmed the plates on the vehicle Gilbert was driving returned to a different model vehicle. Gilbert said he bought the truck he was driving three months ago and just hasn’t had time to get the license transferred. Gilbert was transported to the Greenville Police Department, where he agreed to a breathalyzer test, which showed he was over the legal limit of .08 and placed under an administrative license suspension. His license was seized and he was cited for a marked lanes violation, operating under the influence and was issued a warning for fictitious plates. OVI On March 17 an officer observed a vehicle traveling north on Kitchen Aid Way near Children’s HomeBradford Road. The vehicle crossed over the clearly marked solid yellow line. A traffic stop was conducted

and the officer made contact with the operator, Eugene Brunswick. The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol when he asked Brunswick for his license and proof of insurance. Brunswick told the officer he’d just left a friend’s house where they were playing cards and drinking beer. He later confirmed he had just left the St. Patrick’s Day party at Sloopy’s. Brunswick was asked to exit his vehicle to perform sobriety tests, on which he performed poorly. Brunswick was unsteady on his feet and had slurred speech and glassy eyes. He was transported to the police department, where he agreed to provide a breath sample and was placed under an administrative license suspension. Brunswick was cited for OVI and a marked lanes violation. He was released to a friend. Brunswick has two prior OVI citations in 1999 and 2002. CPO VIOLATION On March 4 an officer was dispatched to the 500 block of Harrison Avenue in reference to a CPO violation. The complainant told the officer her estranged boyfriend, Keith Mitchell showed up at the house and kicked in the garage door, which is attached to the house. The complainant said several times that Mitchell had moved out in November. Mitchell was served with a CPO on Nov. 14. The CPO stated the complainant was living at that address and Mitchell was not to come within the vicinity of the house. The complainant insisted several times that Mitchell never comes by and he didn’t stay there at all. The officer spoke with Mitchell on the phone and he said the complainant had told him the CPO was canceled several weeks ago and he has been living with her at the Harrison Avenue residence for more than 30 days. The officer went back to the residence to collect the complainant’s statement and to tell her what Mitchell said about recently living with her. After denying it for a while, the complainant finally admitted they have been breaking the CPO and Mitchell had been staying there but had not permanently moved back to the residence. The officer explained to the complainant that the CPO is still in place and Mitchell cannot be there even if she wants him there. The complainant became aggravated and

told the officer she didn’t want any action to be taken concerning the garage door. The officer showed her the victim’s rights form and she refused to sign it. Mitchell was contacted and advised the CPO was still in place and he was not to be at the complainant’s residence. No charges will be filed at this time due to the complainant lying to Mitchell about the status of the CPO. The officer is investigating further and will follow up with case management as far as possible charges for the complainant. WANTED PERSON On March 13 an officer was dispatched to Job & Family Services on Wagner Avenue in reference to a wanted person. Prior to arrival, officers were advised by dispatch the suspect, Michael Price was inside the job center. Two officers arrived on scene and located Price in the job center and informed him he had a warrant. Officers ran his Social Security number through LEADS and it was confirmed he had a felony warrant for a probation violation from Darke County and another warrant for failing to serve three days from the Greenville Police Department. Price was transported to the Darke County Jail, where he was incarcerated with no bond. On March 16 while on patrol, an officer observed a known male subject enter a residence in the 300 block of Warren Street. The officer had prior knowledge the subject had an active felony arrest warrant. The officer walked to the rear door of the residence, which was open and could visually identify Albert Reed. The office asked Reed to step out of the residence through the open door. He was placed into

handcuffs and was advised of his felony warrant. Dispatch confirmed the warrant was from a felony indictment for the original charge of aggravated possession of dangerous drugs. During a search, officers located a small bag of white crystalline substance in a sweatshirt pocket. The substance was suspected to be methamphetamine. When asked, Reed said he didn’t know it was in his pocket, but admitted it was probably meth. Reed was transported to the Darke County Jail, where he was incarcerated for his warrant and held with no bond. The suspected methamphetamine was transported to GPD and placed into property to be sent to BCI for lab analysis. Officers will follow up as far as possible charges once results are returned. On March 16 an officer observed a vehicle being operated on Eleventh Street in the area of Hiddeson Avenue. The vehicle failed to use a turn signal when turning right into a driveway. A traffic stop was made on the listed vehicle in the 200 block of Eleventh Street. The operator of the vehicle was confirmed to be Lora Coppock. Through LEADS/ NCIC it was also confirmed Lora was under a noncompliance driver’s license suspension from April 28, 2018 to indefinite. It also was confirmed Coppock had a warrant through Montgomery County for failure to appear on a traffic violation with a bond of $2,500. Coppock was transported to the Montgomery County line and released to an officer with the Washington Township Police Department. Coppock also was issued a citation for driving under suspension and failure to signal .

Boyer honored for 65 years of service By Linda Moody For AIM Media GREENVILLE – Ralph Boyer was honored last Saturday night during Greenville American Legion Post 140’s centennial celebration when he was presented his 65-year pin. He joined the American Legion in Anna in 1954, and transferred to Greenville in 1969 when the family moved to this area. “I don’t think the Post in Anna is in existence anymore, said Boyer, who was drafted into the Army in 1952 during the Korean War. “I left on July 24, 1952, and was discharged in 1954. I should have gone

to Korea but the war was winding down. I took basic training at Aberdeen Proving Ground and then went to San Marcus, Texas, for airplane mechanics school.â€? Boyer was then sent to Fort Sill, Okla., where he remained the rest of the time. There, he worked one week, when a farmer was hired to do that job he had been assigned. “Then, I was moved to the ight lines, setting up an Army demonstration team,â€? he said. “We’d y to different sections of the country to different bases and put on a show with our planes and helicopters. Readers Write Support for Rieman To Whom It May Concern: I am writing this message to offer my support to my friend and former colleague, Michael Rieman, in his campaign for the position of law director for the city of Greenville. I met Mike 4 years ago when we worked together at a law firm in Dayton. As a coworker, Mike was a bright, hardworking attorney who I could always rely on to give me sound feedback on a wide range of legal issues. As an advocate for his clients, Mike was always looking for the common-sense solution, but was willing to use his intellect and abilities to take the fight to the next level if necessary. On a personal level, I know Mike to be someone who is passionate about his hometown. Having obtained his law degree from Notre Dame, Mike

could have moved most anywhere in the country for a big law firm job; instead, he moved back to Greenville to raise his family and be an active member of his community. As I am a native of southern Mercer County, I have a strong appreciation for Mike’s small-town values and it is no wonder that we quickly became good friends. With Mike, the residents of Greenville would be getting as its law director a bright, skilled attorney who would be pragmatic in his approach to tackling the wide range of issues that come through the law director’s doors. They would also be getting someone with unquestioned commitment to his hometown. I hope the voters of Greenville give Mike their strong consideration for this position. Phil Borger, Tipp City

On September 3, 1925, while starting off on a 3,000-mile publicity trip to the Midwest, the airship was ripped into several pieces by a storm over Noble County in southeastern Ohio. Fourteen men died, but 29 miraculously survived. On that fateful day, Lt. Cmdr. Zachary Lansdowne, a Greenville native, went down with his ship. The Garst Museum has an exhibit about Lt. Cmdr. Lansdowne, who had been deemed a national hero by the time he appeared on the cover of Time magazine on September 14, 1925. The wreck of the USS Shenandoah was front-page news nationwide, and Lansdowne was hailed as a hero who remained at his post until the end. All Garst lectures are free and open to the public. You can also have chemistry issues, trying to figure out a whole new system and a new program. I love the game of basketball but I think the Good Lord has me in place to impact student-athletes lives.” “The cheerleaders were fantastic – the school spirit,” Melton noted of the Trojans cheerleaders. “It’s easy for people to overlook our cheerleaders and they deserve a ton of credit. They work hard to keep our fans involved and excited about our games. Even when we’re getting beat a little bit they’re still doing their thing. Coach (Lau-

It’s a 35 minute drive to Arcanum and it’s about 70 miles round trip. I am going to be gone a lot because I’m going to be devoted to the program, but she’s all in. Gospel Gang heading to Union City Trinity Wesleyan plans dinner and concert UNION CITY – Rumor has it that gang leader TNT Terry (aka Terry Longfellow) has been spotted heading west towards the Gospel Music Center in Union City, Ind. At the speed he is traveling he should arrive at the center around 7 p.m. on March 30. He was seen astride his trusty stead wearing a black hat with a guitar slung over his shoulder; both trademarks of TNT Terry. When he camps for the night you may hear his beautiful bass voice ringing through the trees. Also headed in the direction of the Gospel Music Center was Preacher Thomas (aka Scott Thomas). Preacher Thomas has said to have infiltrated the Gospel Gang in order to keep them on the straight and narrow. Preacher Thomas

always surprises folks with his many musical talents. It has been told that he will reveal a unique musical talent on March 30. As the dust cleared they spotted a buckboard being driven by Apple Pie Pat (aka Pat Teagarden). While audiences far and wide enjoy her singing that is only one of her skills. Her apple pie making ranks just as highly. Sounds like a rip-roaring time at the old church at 340 N. Howard St., Union City, Ind. So grab your hat and boots and join them at the Gospel Music Center. The Gospel Gang just loves to pick and grin for the folks; they never charge for their programs. A love offering will be taken… .’gotta’ buy hay for the horses, you know. DCCA hosts re-imagined Peter Pan GREENVILLE – Darke County Center for the Arts will present Underneath a Magical Moon, a retelling of the Peter Pan tale from the perspective of an up-to-date Wendy Darling, on Sunday, April 7 at Henry St. Clair Memorial Hall in Greenville; the last presentation of DCCA’s 2018-2019 Family Theatre season, the show starts at 2 p.m. From Tutti Frutti Productions, a children’s theatre company based in the U.K., the show has won highly positive response in its native land, and is now touring internationally. According to DCCA Artistic Director Keith Rawlins, Underneath a Magical Moon will enthrall adults and delight children with its imaginative story-telling , exquisite music, and talented cast. “A magical, yet down-to-earth mod-

ern-day version of this classic tale, this show will transport its audience from an ordinary twentieth-century backyard to Neverland and back,” Mr. Rawlins stated. “Truly a wonderful and warm piece of theatre, Underneath a Magical Moon is simply delightful, and will happily convince you that nothing is impossible if you just close your eyes and believe,” he said. Sponsors of DCCA’s Family Theatre Series are Second National Bank, Greenville Federal, James Steyer Fund of Darke County Foundation, Edison State Community College, Gordon Orthodontics, Jordan Insurance Agency, Wayne Healthcare, Greenville Rotary Club and Family Health. The series also receives support from the Jean Louise Thieme Fund of the Darke County Foundation and DCCA

memberships. This performance is made possible in part by state tax dollars allocated by the Ohio Legislature to the Ohio Arts Council, a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experience to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally, and economically. DCCA also receives operating support from the Harry D. and Esther Stephens Memorial as well as funding from the Ketrow Foundation, Lydia E. Schaurer Memorial Trust Fund, and the John R. and Miriam H. Knick Fund of Darke County Foundation. Tickets for Underneath a Magical Moon cost just $5, and may be obtained by contacting DCCA at 937-547-0908 or dcca@ darkecountyarts.org; tickets are available online at www.darkecountyarts.org and will also be sold at

Facility holds its own Antique Roadshow By Linda Moody For AIM Media

GREENVILLE – Pinky Flatter, activities director of Greenville Health and Rehab, decided to bring in her own prized possessions during Wednesday afternoon’s event at the facility, calling it the Antique Roadshow. She gathered residents together like the activity department usually does at 2 p.m. each weekday to show off just a small number of the antiques she owns, and as she showed off each item, there some were comments from the crowd, sharing their experiences if they recognized what they were shown. Flatter filled a couple of tables with the items, which included a 1910 rug beater, phones, a 1930 Grand Bissell sweeper, hay hook, butter churn, pointed-toed shoes, a candlestick phone from the 1800s, a meat saw, an ice tong, a lantern, wash board, a child’s skater’s lamp, sad iron, an 1890s kerosene vaporizer oil lamp, sausage grinder, coffee grinder, a candlemaker, slate (black) board from a one-room school, slaw cutter, bottle opener, milk creamer, ice chipper from Peoria, Ill., butter press, round grater, metal colander, knife sharpener, rolling pin, shoe horn, curling iron and a horseshoe. Flatter told the residents that she collects coffee

DARKE COUNTY – At least two Darke County posts of the American Legion – Greenville’s Post 140 and Ansonia’s Post 353 – celebrated the centennial anniversary of the American Legion this past weekend. The Greenville Legion’s Centennial celebration was Saturday evening, complete with a social hour, sit-down catered meal and a program, while Ansonia’s celebration took place on Sunday afternoon with an open house and free tacos and taco salad. Dennis Dickey, a past district commander, spoke at both celebrations, informing the audience about the history of the American Legion. “The turnout here is outstanding,” Dickey said in Greenville. “That is a credit to your post. Tonight, we are here to celebrate the American Legion’s 100th birthday. It came to life in Paris, France, at the Paris Caucus. They had time to think about life after the war. World War veterans still knew Civil War veterans. They saw over the years how veterans were mistreated and wanted to do something about that. They wanted to chart a new course for America. They wanted a good foundation for our veterans, national security, America and children and youth.” According to Dickey, there were more than 850,000 members in the American Legion in 1919. “Every member is a recruiter,” Dickey said. “We need to get younger members in here to modernize the post. We need to get their ideas in here, too. We are a beacon of hope in a lot of communities.” Awards were then handed out by Elaine Harter and Norm Fullerton for continuous membership. Continuous membership pins were presented

to the following: (for 20 years) Bob McMiller, Lanny Brenner, Denver Harter, Denny Adkins, Chuck Shields, Betty Simmons and Robert A. Foster; (25 years) Lew Garland, Marvin Johnson, Richard A. Martin, Gerald Sleppy, Elaine Harter and Jim Richy; (30 years) Larry Rammel and Clark Lease; (35 years) Ken Wombold, Rod Saylor and Norm Fullerton; (40 years) Jerry Voiles and Chris Conner; (50 years) Mick Maher, Tom McGee and Dave Mogle; and (65 years) Ralph Boyer. It was noted that most of them served more years than the pin indicates. Honor guard members recognized were Rod Saylor, Les Cantrell, Marty Meyer, Fred Dean, Lanny Brenner, Robert A. Foster and Tom McGee. Certificates of appreciation went to Richard A. Martin, Norm Fullerton, Ralph Boyer, Vickie and Mark Brinley, Linda Arthur, Ed and Amy Erisman, Deanna Young and Delores and Gerald Sleppy. Delores Sleppy, auxiliary president, then recognized three women; Elaine McMann for 54 years; Deanna Young for 31 years and Linda Arthur for all of her help volunteering for the post, auxiliary and sons. In Ansonia, the open house and was open to members and other veterans in the community, with Dave and Janet Webb preparing the taco refreshments. Jim Kammer also spoke briefly at the gathering. Students learn ‘the cost of adulthood’ NEW MADISON – Students from four Darke County schools gathered at Tri-Village High School on Wednesday to participate in Real Money, Real World. The activity provides students with hands-on experiences about the cost of living on their own and evaluating the consequences of their decisions. The program is hosted by the Darke County Education Service Center (ESC) and OSU Extension. Twenty-five students from Tri-Village, Mississinawa Valley, Ansonia and Arcanum school districts attended what has become an annual event in Darke County for the past six years, said Rhonda Williams, Darke County Extension Educator. Jodi Rinehart, special education supervisor at Darke County ESC says the opportunity to participate in Real Money, Real World activity teaches students “the cost of adulthood.” Students are given a scenario – occupation and family situation and are then given a figure equivalent to the average monthly salary for their simulated occupation. Prior to attending Real Money, Real World, class-

room lessons teach basic budgeting skills, including learning how to set up checking and savings accounts, pay bills, write checks, and balance a checkbook. During the activity, students take individual budget worksheets and experience the “real world” by talking with local businesses and organizations at booths set up around the auditorium. Purchasing a vehicle and insurance or making decisions concerning healthcare and childcare for their “family,” and learning the difference between necessities and luxuries are all part of Real Money, Real World. If they run into financial difficulty, they have the option of speaking with a financial planner. Tri Village freshman Michael Seger started out with a budget of $3,831. After making all his selections and purchases, he ended up with $1,000 left. “I liked it,” Seger said of the opportunity to experience Real Money, Real World. “I learned how to budget my money.” Mississinawa Valley freshman Duane Husted also enjoyed his experi-

Bill Nellis, a supervisor for special education with the county’s ESC said the Real Money, Real World “was important” for the young students. “It gives them a chance to use their academic skills and transfer them into practical skills. Help them learn how to stay afloat without going into debt.” Ryan Class with Hittle Buick GMC in Greenville said as students came to purchase transportation, they learned quickly that the vehicle they chose depended upon the size of their family – not what they

wanted. Class also took time to explain the differences between purchasing a new or used car. Besides Hittle’s, local businesses who participated in Wednesday’s event included Family Health, Anthony Wayne (child care), Farmer’s State Bank, Greenville Federal. Booths for some purchases, including insurance, clothing and food purchases, utilities and housing, communication and entertainment were manned by school officials as well as TriVillage SRO, and Darke County ESC staff. Students who ended up with money left over received a PayDay candy bar for their efforts. If they went over budget, they received a piece of Life Savers candy.

tures the company’s commitment to a better care experience and speaks to the growing value Midmark provides to customers in the rapidly changing healthcare industry as they focus on improving clinical

outcomes. The new tagline, “Designing better care,â€? puts forth the idea that whether it is a doctor’s ofďŹ ce, dental practice or veterinary clinic, better care starts with a better designed care environment, which
