Main Street Greenville plans variety of holiday events BY SUSAN HARTLEY STAFF WRITER shartley@earlybirdpaper.com GREENVILLE – Main Street Greenville is spreading holiday cheer by promoting several events to bring shoppers downtown. “I think during the holiday season people like to find special gifts to give people they care about. We have a lot of unique businesses,” said Crysta Hutchinson Bloomindale, Main Street Executive Director. “We encourage people to shop at independently owned businesses for their holiday gifting.” The busy shopping season will kick off with Small Business Saturday on Nov. 24. The annual event was started in 2010, by American Express in collaboration with the National Trust for Historic Preservation as a counterpart to Black Friday (Nov. 23) and Cyber Monday (Nov. 26). The event encourages shoppers to visit locally-owned brick and mortar businesses. “A lot of our businesses will be having special sales,” on Small Business Saturday, Hutchinson Bloomingdale said. Details about the specials will be included in the Main Street Greenville e-newsletter as well as on their Facebook page. Also on Small Business Saturday, Main Street Greenville will be hosting free carriage rides from noon to 2 p.m. After purchasing that special gift, stop by the Main Street office in the Welcome Center on Broadway to have it gift wrapped for free, Hutchinson Bloomingdale said. Main Street also will have Small Business Saturday giveaways, including bags, buttons and stickers. The Main Street Win the Window kicks off on Black Friday and runs through Dec. 8. There will be more opportunities to win this year, Hutchinson Bloomingdale said.

“At the end we’ll be drawing three or four winners,” she explained, instead of just one. The prizes are provided by participating businesses. For every $5 spent at participating businesses, customers will receive a ticket to fill out and turn back in for the drawing. Tickets may be turned in at the point of purchase or at the Main Street office. Prizes will be displayed in the Welcome Center’s window, then divided into categories for the drawing. The First Friday event on Dec. 7 will last through Saturday, Dec. 8 and will be themed Cookie Cutter Christmas. “It’s an open house weekend for downtown businesses,” Hutchinson Bloomingdale said. “Some of the businesses will be offering free cookies with a purchase. We’ll have a window decorating contest around the theme.” Also, she said, some of the businesses are encouraging shoppers to wear ugly Christmas sweaters on Friday night. On Saturday, Dec. 8, the Greenville Public Library will be hosting a gingerbread decorating activity for children as part of the downtown open house. The event will take place at 2 p.m. Parents may stop by the library or call 548-2915 to register their child. Again on Dec. 8, Main Street will host free horse-drawn carriage rides from noon to 2 p.m. A first this year, Main Street will greet the new year from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Romer’s Catering. “This is the first year for our New Year’s Eve Party,” Hutchinson said. “We’re really excited about it.” The event, which is for ages 21 and over, will include hors d’oeuvres. a champagne toast and live music by the Kim Kelly Orchestra. Tickets for New Year’s Eve may be purchased at the Main Street office or on their Facebook page.

Sweet Annie’s Cabin features local artisans GREENVILLE – At Sweet Annie’s Cabin they’ve always loved getting in their Christmas shipments from the trusted companies they’ve dealt with through the years. There are always many unique and beautiful items. This year, they are adding a new element for their Christmas season. They have met with three local artisans and are excited for you to see what they have to offer. The definition of an artisan is: “A person that makes a high-quality or distinctive product in small quantities, usually by hand or using traditional methods.” Kim Campbell, a licensed massage therapist from Ansonia, has found a new passion for crafting with her burlap flower wreaths. Her wreaths have been selling in the store since last Christmas and have been a huge success. What started as a project for herself has blossomed into a whole line of season and everyday flower-shaped burlap wreaths, perfect for the rustic farmhouse or the more modern home. Each season can bring a fresh new look with special holiday designs as well, such as pumpkins, reindeer and snowmen made from deco mesh. Randi Pheiffer, originally from St. Henry and now living in Germantown, has allowed her love of fabric to lead her into making cribsized quilts. Each handmade quilt starts with designer fabric brands, such as Art Gallery, Dear Stella and Birch Organics. Pieced and free motion quilted, each blanket has its own unique pattern and design. The 100 percent cotton fabric, batting and backing are used in every quilt. They are practical enough for everyday and yet special enough for a timeless

keepsake. They are also carrying her wrislet purses in varying sizes, each crafted with a unique sturdy closure element. Robin May is also from St. Henry. She recently rediscovered her love of drawing from years past. Specializing in pastels and watercolors, she captures the essence of rural life. Whether your home is French Country, Modern Farmhouse or Rustic, the animals featured in her drawings depict a warmth and simplicity of mid-western farm life that will compliment your style, making a welcome addition to your home. Sweet Annie’s Cabin is thrilled to add these local artisans and their wares the store – knowing that “shopping locally” not only means patronizing our downtown businesses, but also providing opportunities for local artisans. The staff of Sweet Annie’s Cabin truly loves this time of year and are ready for all your Christmas shopping needs. Their trees are decorated and brimming with ornaments and all the trimmings. They have many different style themes, including Victorian, Country or even the playful fun of gingerbread houses and s’mores. Pine branches and wreaths, sparkle and shimmer, and even Christmas fairy garden – it’s all there to see. For the little ones on your list, they have a great selection of Melissa & Doug toys, plush melamine diner sets and much more. Take time to shop the ladies fashion and accessory department. Whether it’s a gift for that special lady or you need the perfect party outfit, you’ll find it at Sweet Annie’s Cabin. Take time this season to stop in and see them. Sweet Annie’s Cabin is in the holiday spirit and invites you to visit They are ready to serve you. and see what their local artisans have to offer.

Shop local in downtown Greenville to win GREENVILLE – This holiday season, shoppers can earn chances to win hundreds of dollars in merchandise and gift certiďŹ cates through “Win the Window,â€? a shop local campaign by Main Street Greenville and Second National Bank. “This promotion was created to encourage and remind people to shop local during the holiday season and to support our downtown businesses,â€? said Crysta Hutchinson Bloomingdale, executive director for Main Street Greenville. Between Nov. 23 and Dec. 8, shoppers can enter to win by spending money at any of the participating downtown Greenville businesses. Find the list of participating businesses and prizes on the Main Street Greenville website, www.mainstreetgreenville. org. Participating businesses have provided merchandise and gift certiďŹ cates to place under the Christmas tree in Main Street Greenville’s window, located in the Darke County Welcome Center at 421 S. Broadway. Shoppers will get a ticket entry for every $5 they spend at a participating downtown business, up to single purchases of $1,000. For example,

if you spend $100 at a business, you will receive 20 tickets to enter into the contest to win the window of prizes. There is no limit to how many times you can shop to enter. The more you spend downtown at participating businesses, the more chances you have to win the window full of prizes. New to the contest this year, there will be multiple winners. The bounty of merchandise and gift certiďŹ cates has been divided into categories such as home decor, hair care, apparel, and food & drink. Each category will have a winner for a grand total of four chances to win. Your chances are better than ever this year – so make sure you get your entries in. Participating businesses will have tickets available at the time of your purchases and a glass jar to collect all of the tickets for the drawing. The drawing for the winners will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 3:30 p.m. at the Main Street Greenville ofďŹ ce, located in the Darke County Welcome Center at 421 S. Broadway. You are not required to be present to win. Lighthouse to continue holiday Christmas tradition BY SUSAN HARTLEY STAFF WRITER shartley@earlybirdpaper.com GREENVILLE – Again this year, Lighthouse Christian Center will host a Christmas Day dinner. “We’ve changed it up this year,” said Eric Fee, son of the event’s founders, the Rev. Hershel and Barbara Fee. “For 36 years my mom and dad have done it and now they’re retiring. We didn’t want to see it go away.” Fee, owner of Tribute Funeral Homes, has assumed the role of event organizer, but will still be relying on

local businesses and volunteers to make the dinner special for those needing companionship on Christmas Day. Around 350 dinners are served each year, Fee said, in addition to between 75-120 deliveries. This year’s event, which will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Christmas Day at Lighthouse Christian Center, 5256 Sebring Warner Rd., will include a visit from Santa, special musical entertainment, and Christmas dinner. “This year, instead of a buffet we’re going to have servers and menus and

they (guests) will be able to choose what they want to eat,” Fee said. “We’re going to serve them that day so they get a taste of being special.” The event also will include gifts for every child, including bicycles, which are donated by area businesses. Businesses or individuals who would like to support the Lighthouse Christmas dinner are asked to call 447-8193. Fee said two volunteer servers

are needed for each table. Donations from businesses for bicycles also may be made. “They can donate $100 to sponsor a bike, or purchase a bike on their own to donate. We’ll put a little tag on it with their name. We want the families to know the businesses that support them,” Fee said. Persons wishing to register to attend may call 564-6034. Leave your name and how many people will be attending.

T&C Motorsports opens new shop ARCANUM – T&C Motorsports is excited to announce they will open the doors to their new shop at 1854 St. Rt. 49, Arcanum, on Monday, Nov. 19. T&C Motorsports was ďŹ rst opened in 2006 by Tom and Melissa Hittle. They started the business as a parttime service and repair shop and as their customer base grew they decided to build on a showroom and go full time in 2008. Since then the business has continued to grow and they were out of space and knew they had to either eliminate some of the brands of equipment they service or relocate to a larger facility. In 2015, they purchased a property on St. Rt. 49 just ďŹ ve-minutes from their current location and worked for three years to get the property ready to begin construction on their new shop. They broke ground in June and after ďŹ ve months of construction they are ďŹ nally ready to open the doors. T&C Motorsports is a family-owned and operated business as their two kids, Lacy 13 and Carson 11, are starting to get involved in the business as well. T&C Motorsports offers sales, and fullystocked parts and service departments. They started out servicing motorsports equipment but customers would call wanting power equipment serviced. They decided to give it a try and it really took off fast. Now power equipment is a huge part of their business. They stock a wide selection of ATVs, UTVs scooters, motorcycles, lawn tractors, ZTR mowers, walkbehind mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, snow blowers, generators and pressure washers. Currently T&C Motorsports is an authorized dealer of Husqvarna, Simplicity, Kymco, Briggs & Stratton

Engines, Kohler Engines, Kawasaki Engines, Tecumseh Engines, Honda Engines, LCT Engines, and most recently became an authorized dealer for Snapper and Snapper Pro.
