ur mandate is to Raise up a generation that cant help but wait on God and is founded on the word from Luke 12: 35-36 Be prepared all dressed and ready for your Groom’s return from the wedding feast. Then you will be ready to open the door and let him in the moment he arrives and knocks. We aim to prepare the bride of Christ not only for marriage here on earth but the end time marriage to our Lord. We are aware that there are many things that pull this generation from living a godly life and Destroy their relationship with God and we intend to bring a change and help them get back their footing.

e mostly dwell on the area of relationships as we have come to understand that the relationships we have affect our relationships with God. God made man and made him relational, however there is a way he expects us to carry ourselves in those relationships that will not tear us apart from him and his grace. In this magazine we discuss that and equip the youth and single adults and even that in marriage on working relationships as God calls us to. We are aware that the world has many experts when it comes to love, relationships, dating, marriage and sex and they all have been generous to share their opinion with us, but this time we choose to look to the greatest of all experts, the all knowing God and his word on the matter.
O
ur relationship on earth is to be a reflection of our relationship with God, We are the bride of Christ and we must teach our generation that to keep them from falling from grace. To allow them to be ready and prepared for the bride groom when he comes, for he is coming, we just do not know when. We want our generation to stay focused and determined to wait on God and not miss him when he comes as illustrated in math 25:1-13. Shalom

riting this note at the beginning of each issue has got to be my favorite part. To me it means that God has blessed us with yeah another opportunity to grow, glow. Each issue comes with something new, a new lesson or a new reader and we thank God for that. We have a small team of people that do a great work, from Tindi, Karuoro, Timothy, The featured guests, Cynthia and I. It just goes to show it’s not the number but the force with which they apply themselves. To each of you is say thank you. You may ask why I am so into giving thanks and ill let you know that in November of every year, our brothers and sisters in the USA celebrate thanks giving. In our family we do too. If there is one western culture we appreciate it is that day. Our day to day lives would be filled with thanks giving but, it is nice to have aside one day where we can come together in an attitude of gratitude and say what we are thankful for as we spend time together with our loved ones for they that are so lucky. So from today, what are you going to be thanking God for? Can you look back and find anything worth saying thank you for? I personally want to thank him for peace; I know we had it rough after the post election violence, but God soon established peace in the land. I also know that it was bad, but I thank God it is not worse. I look at countries like Rwanda, South Sudan and I have to say thank you because though it came, it went too and he gave us peace. Inspirit of the season to come, I want to thank Emmanuel Jal and Juliani , I want to thank Team Jal for being who they are and doing what they do, going from place to place in Kenya and around the world, taking the message of peace with them. Bringing together peace soldiers to pledge and join the we want peace campaign to ensure what happened in the last elections will not happen again. Thank you, I text in my pledge to owe no man nothing but love to 595, join me and send in your peace pledge too as we give thanks and celebrate Peace in our land. Shalom Thitu Kariba

Dating not be unequally yoked to none believers. We can be friends with them but we cannot be more. Once again I saw the 80-20 rule come in. I would be lured to what I liked about him, because after all he a wonderful person and I find him attractive, we get along and we have something’s in common. However once we get passed all that in to the meat of the matter, the is allot of conflict and disagreements. My core, funder mental makeup is rooted in my salvation, so, although we have some things in common we have more that does not mix and match. 80-20.
The 80-20 rule in a new light
As I watched the Tyler Perry movie, Why did I get married, I heard the guys talk about cheating on their wives and the 80-20 rule. I laughed because it is so true; I also laughed and asked why they do not teach this in schools because I considered it to be real education. Teaching some of these things in schools could get us allot further than quoting Shake Spear. What basically they summed the 80-20 rule down to was that when one is faced with the temptation to cheat on their spouse, what is luring them is just 20 percent of what they are not getting in the marriage. When they fall for it and commit adultery, what they are losing is the 80 percent and taking up 20. I have seen this play out in dating too. Here Is how. I have a friend that I love dearly, and though now and then we cross the line of friendship, it has come to a point where I had to put my foot down and decide to be just friends. My friend is not saved and the bible tells me that I should
I got to see why it is said that we should not be unequally yoked to an unbeliever, it is not because God hates them, he loves us all equally. It is because God wanted the best for us. He does not want us to have 20percent in common but to be one, 100 percent. He does not want us to have different fundamental beliefs and make ups that will cause conflict; he wants us to be in agreement so we can walk together in the same direction in the same manner. It is not to make them feel like sinner, or to declare that we are all so righteous, but it is for our own good. A relationship or a marriage with the 20 percent will be a hard, hurtful and short lived one. While dating, we ought to look out for this and figure out if this person we hope to get more involved with is 20 or 80. If you only have the 20 percent in common or to go on chances are the rest will not grow as time comes. If they you have the 80 percent to go on then that is plus. Many may question me at this point and comment about just having 80 and not the full 100. To that I would say this, many good marriages in the world that are without God will never operate at their full potential. We have what it takes to make a relationship or a marriage work but we have our limits as well, nothing can be at its very best, operate at its optimum and at 100%without God. So go for the 80 and then invite God to make it 100% and you relationship and marriage will never be the same again. Harusi Magazine

Relationships
Communication is key To begin a relationship of any kind we have to communicate. We relate through communication. Communication lets you know in on things, if provides you with information, knowledge and with that you can then know how to apply what you know to get what you want. In a way courting is just that, getting information, and then applying that information to get the object of your affection. Communication is there for the passing on of information and the receiving of information, but it does not end there, this information has to be understood by the recipient and feedback must be giving to the sender of the information. If the two of you do not understand each other then you are not communicating. Many times this is just what the problem is in relationships be it with friends or more. The messages are not being clearly understood. I mean how many times have we heard someone state that what one was getting is not what they meant to say, or that it came out wrong? Yes, breakdown in communication can leave your relationship on shaky ground. One of the key communication skills that we too often over look, is that of listening. We have senses that help us to do that, the tongue tastes and tell us the flavor of things, the ear hears and we get to know what someone is saying and the tone too. The eyes allow as to read written messages and also body language and other non verbal messages like colors, the nose tells us one scents from another, and there is more, our spirit, we can use our spirit to listen, discern as see beyond what others can’t. We get stirred up inside and just know something is wrong, or that someone is hurting. If we can put all these skills to work to listen, to our loved ones, our relationships would be transformed. 8

October/November
There are things that can hinder us from listening and this s considered as noise. Anything that prevents a message from being transmitted and understood is noise. This can come in the form of stress, anger, pain, weariness and more. For you to communicate effectively you have to listen well and to do that there cannot be any noise. So ladies let him wind down after work before you need to have a talk, men let her just put the kids to bed, or clean the dishes or finish cooking before you need to share about the great day you had at work. It sounds easy but it does take work, work that is well worth it because as I mention it will revolutionize your relationship.
Love and Marriage When we go for weddings we always here these couples who are so in love read out these wonderful vows to one another that they are to upkeep till death do them part. Considering no one knows when they are going to die unless they make plans to, that could be a long or short period. Once you get married, live together and you come out of the honeymoon phase, your eyes begin to open to just how annoying, frustrating and even selfish your spouse can be. I mean you have to share a space now; you have been single longer than you have been married and o one prepared you for the adjusting that needs doing. It will take more than a pretty dress, and suit, some unity candle or whatever to get you by, and get you to uphold the vows.
Marriage
All these are principles which when applied in wisdom will govern the force ad you will see the desired results. I cannot go through each and every one that is a book for another day; however, I can take you through one. If in a marriage you can apply patience, you can govern time. You will be able to wait and see change without being intimidated or irritated by the waiting. In marriage, as I mentioned two people who have been use to being alone now are together sharing their most intimate space, there is no privacy and patience is key. If we can use when and how and on what to sue all the principles then we can govern marriage successfully.
Marriage is a force to be reckoned with and it take two, it also takes being prepared and equipped to ride that wave. If marriage is a force then there has to be principles set out to govern it, and there are. There is a principle that if applied right will govern marriage as God intended it. That principle is love. It may sound simple; you may think you know it but it deeper than that. It’s been broken down for us in other 8 principles to help govern the other forces that come up in a marriage. • Patience • Kindness • Humility • Resilience/ Poise • Selflessness • Forgiveness • Justice • Perseverance

Sex
The C word
A contraceptive is a device or drug used to prevent pregnancies. A contraceptive is designed for couples to enjoy sex without getting pregnant when they are not ready to be parents. The contraceptive was designed for couples to plan their families, the contraceptive allows the couple to have a desired amount of children in a desired amount of time and at a desired time. What many commercials, companies, doctors and even people forget to say it that the contraceptive was designed for married couples to do all the above. In marriage God desires for you to have a healthy and wonderful sex life. God also designed sex as a means for procreation, which mean with each sexual encounter the couple is likely to get pregnant. In all things we are to apply wisdom to direct us and this case is no different. If you are a married couple that is not yet ready to have children or has had as many children as they desire then they are allowed to use contraceptives for their family planning. Let me now tell you what contraceptives are not used for. They are not a means for you to have an affair without getting pregnant or getting and STD that you can then spread to your spouse. They are not a means for you to have the milk for free without having to buy the cow. Love with no regrets does not come from using contraceptives but by following Gods commands on relationships, sex, marriage and the like. Not getting pregnant or infected is one thing but the contraceptive will not keep you from heart ache, breaking up and other sexual related complications we have talked of in the past. The contraceptive was not designed for you not to care about getting drunk in lust and jumping into bed with someone without a care because you have the emergency pill to fall back on. 10

October/November
I walked into a Chemist on Kimathi Street where they sell all manner of contraceptives from the emergency pill to condoms over the counter at less than 200ksh. I also got to learn that they sell on average 5packets of each a day and to mostly 20-26yr old. The man assisting me told me that over the weekend that count could even double. Like with any other drug, the emergency pill is not to be used on a regular, it was designed for rape victims and could cause complications in future from repeated use. Advocating, for the C word, urging the youth and others to get “responsible by using contraceptives is in my opinion adding fuel to the fire. We are giving them a reason to have more casual sex; we are offering them protection as they do it. We are giving them a key to sexual immorality and turning around to call it, the safe, loving and responsible way to have sex. Casual, pre-marital sex. It’s time for a new C word, control, compromise as in.. exercise some self control and do not compromise.
Talking Spouses
How long is too long? Last night I was on radio talking about how to deal with seual urges and this girl calls in saying that she is an a great relationship and willingly gave herelf to her man sexually and does not get why we out to abstain till marrieage, or not give into our sexual desires. I asked her a bit about her relationship and the one thing I picked up was that she had been dating this guy for a while, wo which I was not at all surprised. I mean, “ why buy the cow when you are getting the milk, and staks for free?” When we fie in to the sexual desire before marriage then you prolong marriage or keep it from ever coming up all together. Sex is a gift from God, its wonderful, but it needs to be had in a life time not long term commitment or relationship called marriage. Really how long is too long before he asks you to marry him and why should he if you gie him all ther perks without having to pay? If you are in a non sexual realtionship, well good for you, the road to marriage just got shorter. Even still there is time that needs to be taken to know each other. I say a year is good enough, get to know each other in all
seasons and times of the month and year. Get to meet his/ her people and find out what you are getting into. I would say after a year if there are no issues to be worked through and all is well then go for it. But after moths I would say you are pushing it, you will eiher find yourself falling into temptaion or into a cycle of excuses. If you are set to marry at some point then give yourselves a time line to work with. If we want and excuse we will find it. The one excuse I find many times coming up is that, they cannot afford the wedding. In this case down size it, get married then later work save, together and have the wedding you have always wanted. I say this because some folk have been at it for years with the whole affordable wedding thing. I know that everyone is different and that, we all have our own views and opinion so ill ask … how long is too long to wait before you say I do?

Not Catching a Cold When its Cold – Important Tips If you want to protect yourself from colds (cold sores brought about by Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 are very embarrassing), there are several tips that could help you during the next cold season.
• You could prevent getting a cold by avoiding sharing personal items with others. The cold virus is greatly contagious and you should therefore identify those who have the virus and keep away from them and their belongings. You should particularly avoid sharing such items as towels, handkerchiefs, and toothbrushes. • You could prevent getting a cold by taking a healthy diet. You should get a lot of rest since tired bodies are weak bodies. Boost your immune system to increase your body’s capacity to fight off the virus responsible for colds. Corporate social responsibility Benefits of Corporate Social Responsibility to a Business Almost all businesses today are talking about corporate social responsibility or CSR. This is because of the many benefits of CSR. Although CSR involves the use of a business’s resources, the returns are proven, albeit immeasurable. Here are some of the major benefits why your business should be involved in CSR. • CSR shows the public your business is responsible, committed, unique, and trustworthy. The public will have the perception that these qualities are ingrained into the business. This will drive potential customers/clients to your business and this means greater ROI (return on investment). CSR enables small businesses to compete with large businesses on the same level.

• CSR is important because the good name that the business gets ensures that the hiring of employees is easier and that interaction with business partners such as banks is better. CSR is important because some organizations and institutions, including governments, will not award tenders to businesses that are not involved in CSR. Some organizations such as multinationals need a human face due to the nature of the business they conduct. • CSR will give you an insight into what the future holds. This is important in product development and in devising strategies. • Doing something meaningful in terms of helping the public or saving the environment will give participants great moral satisfaction. Happy workers are good workers. CSR brings out the best in people and it enables your employees to bond. • You do not need to spend a fortune on CSR. You could even offer services such as training the public as part of your corporate social responsibility.
Food and Wine
How to Pick the Right Red Wine for your Meal Matching food and wine is an important but difficult skill to master. Some of the bad traits that result from inappropriate pairing of food and wine include non-desirable metallic flavours, extra sweetness, bitterness, and alcoholic properties. There are several simple, sure-fire techniques for effective pairing of foods and wines. The old wine and food matching rule is primarily red wine with red meat and white wine with poultry or fish, but this did not take into consideration the complexity of today’s multi-ethnic and subtly flavoured foods and the wide range of wines available from around the world.
The most important consideration when pairing foods and red wines is the traits of the foods and the wines. The food and the wine you are pairing should have the same traits. This means if the wine has a robust flavour, then a good food choice is porter because since it also has a robust flavour. You should never pair a steak dinner with sweet red wines. Consider the type of the food and the wine. If your wine has a citrus feel, then it will go well with chicken in a butter or garlic source. If you are serving a barbecue, you should go for red wines that have high alcohol content. Note that if you complement a lightly flavoured dish with a strongly flavoured wine, the wine will overpower the dish, leaving the impression that you have only been drinking wine. If your red wine contains a lot of tannin, you should pair it with dishes that are rich in protein or salt. Foods that have a naturally high acid content such as fruits and cheeses go well with younger wines with higher acidity while foods that are highly seasoned with salt and/ or spices pair well with lower-alcohol, fruity wines.

Love Nest: Creating a Romantic Bedroom
Whether you believe it or not, your bedroom could very well be the most important room in your house. It should convey intimacy, warmth, luxury and comfort. If you are married, you may not necessarily be looking to create a boudoir, but it should definitely be a place where you can relax and enjoy a romantic time with your spouse. A romantic bedroom should be both inviting and open. The best way to do this is to keep your décor simple and relaxed which makes the room love-ready. If your bedroom is cluttered, it is time to eliminate all the clutter and allow the room to become more spacious and airy. In addition to being open, a romantic bedroom should have a cozy feel. The kind of room that makes you want to spend Saturday morning in bed! The best way to transform your bedroom into a cozy room is by using cushy bedding. Start with a goose feather duvet or a fluffy down comforter. This will make the bed more inviting. If you want a supper plush experience then you may want to use 2 comforters as this makes the bed look more luxurious and lived in. The bed sheets should be made from soft cotton to add softness for an even more tempting look. Little delicate touches go a long way in creating a love nest. Soft, fluffy pillows that you can sink into and a plush rug to step on when you get out of bed in the morning will do wonders for creating that cozy feel. Romance is about
awakening the senses and fresh cut flowers and scented candles can call up that loving feeling. Don’t choose musky scents (unless he likes those), instead go for lighter, barely there ones like lilac. Always avoid bright, harsh lights and instead settle for vintage lamps and delicate chandeliers that will provide a soft glow and romantic shadows. In the daytime, enjoy natural light. Long, flowing, gauzy curtains will do wonders for the room. Do away with all electronics in the bedroom as they tend to take away that restful atmosphere. Soften stark white walls by painting them ivory, cream or eggshell. These colors play of the soft glow of your lamps well creating an even more romantic ambiance. Romantic pictures on your walls can also add to the ambiance of the room. Don’t forget to add those little personal touches that have him running home every evening just to be with you. Enjoy!

Kitchen
I must confess that I am a sucker for rustic, country kitchens. They conjure up images of romance and cowboys. Just because it’s a country kitchen does not mean that your house has to be in the country to enjoy one of these. Although the thought of sitting in my country kitchen, looking out at the rolling hills with cattle against the horizon is tempting. The idea is to create a kitchen that is the embodiment of warmth. Warm tones, wooden cupboards and the like provide a sophisticated rustic look. The kitchen needs to have a friendly, relaxed feel to it. Antique furniture and appliances can also add to the ambiance creating a place where the family can enjoy great conversation and meals, while reflecting country living. To create a rusting country style kitchen you will need to use natural materials. You can use open shelves or old style cupboards that you can use to display your collection of antiques, baskets, glass jars and earthenware. To 18

maintain that country look, your pots should be made of stoneware, copper, steel and cast iron which is pretty easy to find. Your cabinetry should have a distressed, rough or natural finish. Painting the cabinets is also a great idea to bring color into the room. To carry on the country rustic style on counter tops and floors, use hand painted tiles, stone, ceramic tiles and even marble. Brick, wood, terracotta and stone also make an excellent finish for the floor. Next step, color it country! Use earthy colors such as white and egg shell. Blues, red barn, green and yellow also work well to create that country feel. Stencils and wall paper are great for the walls and for creating borders. Wood beams on the ceiling create a rustic look that works well to bring out that country feel. Use antique furniture or reproductions to tie in that country look. If the furniture you find has imperfections such as chips and scratches, you have just

Rustic Country Kitchens hit jackpot. These imperfections will add extra charm to that rustic look. Having a kitchen island where food preparation can be done can also add to that farmhouse kitchen look. Make sure the design of your kitchen reflects your own personal style and that you are comfortable with it. The idea is to enjoy that kitchen for a long time to come. Add various country touches like daisies on the windowsill planted in a pail, or a ceramic rooster. All these will give the room that country feel you are looking for.
Kitchen Color can set the mood of a room. It helps create the atmosphere and therefore has impact on your emotional state. Color is an expression of your style as well as your taste. When it comes to color, proportion is important. The basics are that the lightest color should be used most of all while the darkest one should be used the least. The idea is to use the lightest color on the wall and then have an accent color that picks off of one of the other colors that you are using to accessorize with. Look around your living room for objects that will inspire you on your journey of color. You may be surprised that a painting, teapot, or even fabric may inspire the color scheme you will use for your living room. Look at the colors you have on the clothes you like best. Why do you like those colors? Would you want to build a color scheme around that? Having found the color you like, it is advisable when buying paint to buy one shade lighter as paint becomes darker when it dries.
Tips for choosing Color in the Living Room
In interior decorating there is such a thing as the “3 rule”. An example of the three rule could be the use pink on the accent pillows, on a vase by the window and on your throw blanket. The idea is to use these items to tie the room together and create interesting aspects of your décor. Stark white can be too much. Go for off white which gives a softer feel and also looks great when paired with darker or brighter colors. If the room is small, you want to paint the ceiling a shade lighter than whatever colors you have on the walls. This gives the feeling that your ceiling is higher up than it really is. Let’s kill the tradition right now; your ceiling does not have to be white. Harusi Magazine

Garden
Fountains: Stunning Garden Water Features Few things are more soothing than the sound of running water. A garden that incorporates water features creates a restful, easy place to meditate, commune with your maker, or just relax. Garden water features are not new but have been there since the earliest gardens were planted. Even the Garden of Eden had water features in form of rivers running through it. As it gurgles along, water provides a relaxing ambience and delightful interaction with light that even the most hardened person will find delightful. Modern gardens use water features as focal points and can also encourage wild life and birds into your garden, which tends to be a plus for nature lovers. Fountains are the most common water features and come in 4 major forms. Wall fountains, cobble fountains, formal fountains and novelty fountains. Wall fountains are built into a wall such that the water pours out of an opening in the wall. Sometimes this opening can be a statue of a person or an animal. The water is recycled by collecting at the bottom and being pumped up to the top again. A cobble fountain is one that pushes water gently over cobble stones. Generally, there is one large stone that is surrounded by other stones. The large one hides or conceals the pump and the source of the water under it. The water is pushed up and gurgles out of an opening at the top. A great addition to a formal landscape that has a formal pool is a formal fountain. These usually pump water up in jets and how high the water goes is dependent on how powerful the pump is. The forth type of fountain is the novelty fountain which can incorporate various aspects of the other fountains. One can have jets as in the formal fountain, sculptures of animals and humans as with the wall fountains as well as stones as with the cobble fountain. These fountains are quite individual and are based on the taste of the owner. One of the main concerns for most people when it comes to fountains is electricity consumption used to power the pumps. This should not be a concern however as there are also solar powered pumps that are relatively cheap. Water garden features are that extra touch needed for that relaxing feel in your garden. 20

THE STARS OF SOURCING CARS
karuoro@zero260.co.ke
Cars
Tyre Pressure • Ideally tyre pressure should be checked every week. If pressure is too low, then the outside edges of the tyre wear faster than the middle part of it. If pressure is too high, then tyre wear is accelerated on the middle section of the tyre. Wheel Balancing • Wheels become unbalanced when one side of a wheel is heavier than the other. The wheel then wobbles while at speed. This is not only uncomfortable; it also increases the rate of tyre wear. It is important to balance wheels every time new tyres are fitted to a car and to check wheels at least once every six months. Wheel Alignment • Misalignment is when some or all of the wheels are not pointing exactly in the direction of travel. Misaligned wheels wear faster and wear unevenly. It is advisable to align wheels every time new tyres are fitted, anytime any repairs are done to suspension or steering and/or every six months.
Tyres
When we were younger, most of us had an experience where we took off our shoes on a well polished (hence slippery) floor and tried to Careful Driving – Avoid Hitting Kerbs and run as fast as we could then stop by skidding Pavements as far as we could. If my memories of childhood • Hitting kerbs and pavements can damage serve me correctly, building up to speed was the tyre and cause it to swell. Swollen tyres often difficult and the more slippery the floor/ are not only uncomfortable to ride on; they sock combo, the longer the longer the skid also have a higher risk of tyre bursts. would be. Of course back then, lack of traction was fun. But when driving, the presence of traction is key to ensuring control. The car is connected to the road by four pads of rubber that are rarely more than one tenth of a square metre in total. Keeping those pads connected to the road and in good condition is essential. So how do we ensure that our tyres are in good running condition to provide the ideal amount of traction? How do we ensure that our tyres last as long as possible while still remaining effective

Juliani and Jal
What is your definition of peace? JULIANI: Peace is a result of citizenry participation in the development of a country, without a people feeling sidelined or discriminated against because of tribe, poverty, gender, colour or age. EMMANUEL: Peace is state of positive growth, where wealth is shared equally, leadership serves, and a public are united, safe, educated and empowered enough to live a stable and secure life. How did this movement begin? JULIANI: WWP is a worldwide campaign kicked off by Emmanuel Jal. At first it focused on creating awareness around last year’s referendum in South Sudan, Emmanuel released a song calling on all Sudanese, their leadership and the world to keep the peace throughout the process. After this ended successfully, it was vital for the positive spirit created to extend into other countries, particularly with the knowledge that 18 African states are headed toward presidential elections in the 2012. Emmanuel asked me to join him, with the focus now shifting onto my locality of Kenya. We shared the same sentiments, being that Kenya is still heated politically, and we don’t, under any circumstances, want a repeat of 2007’s post election violence. More so, we’re committed to creating a platform for Kenyans to engage, empower and inspire each other, coming up with an S.I unit, or general marking scheme, that describes what it means to be a good leader. Why did you choose to work with each other? JULIANI: Because we share the same values in our spheres of influence, we are stakeholders, we have interests economically and socially in the development of Kenya...simply, we’re taking care of our investments in a country we love. EMMANUEL: We realise our responsibilities as role models, as citizens it is crucial for all of us to play our parts responsibly. How far has We Want Peace spread? EMMANUEL: Globally. When we launched in December 2010 the campaign cut across both sides of the Atlantic, as well as here in Kenya.

We will continue this momentum with focus on Kenya in run up to the elections. I’m currently in Mexico! Juliani is in Kenya, and soon we’ll be over Africa. This is a spirit of unity and responsibility we hope to carry everywhere. Who are you targeting? JULIANI: Currently, all citizens of Kenya, especially the youth, people who feel like they haven’t been part of the process, they need to realise that they are. We all are. Also political leaders, because of their obvious influence. Peace is all-inclusive. Everyone of us has a role to play towards attaining it. Why in your opinion do you feel that peace is so crucial, why do you want peace? JULIANI: Peace creates the environment we need to enjoy our country. EMMANUEL: There is nothing good without peace. We cannot develop, we can be educated, we cannot move forward as a nation without it. Many have come before you with the same mission, what makes yours different? EMMANUEL: Who knows if we’re different, all I know is our focus is on elevation. We’re not doing this because we hope for change, we are the change. We will educate and elevate, empower and inspire Kenyans to realise that they can be the change they want to see. JULIANI: We have everything to gain here, we are
One on One protecting our investments and that includes the people. They are the ones who listen to us, and come to our concerts. What do you think affects peace negatively? JULIANI: Marginalization, bad leadership, uninformed citizens, tribalism and limited resources - caused by both climate change and bad planning. What is a solider of peace and how can one become one? JULIANI: Everybody’s a peace soldier, you just need to weigh out your options. EMMANUEL: We are rallying 1 million Kenyans across the country who choose to work for a better Kenya. They are peace soldiers. We’re asking everyone to join us by texting their pledges, promises, commitments or statements to 595. Every submission will go directly to the Kenyan Government once we hit a million or more. JULIANI: This petition, our 1 million citizen call to sustain peace, isn’t just about sending a text either, we want to know what decisions you have taken to responsibly maintain a positive atmosphere in your community. How are you using your gifts to achieve your goals? EMMANUEL: As artists we have the power of music on our side. We realise the potential in young people as young people ourselves and will use our voices to inspire and educate as many as we can, as best as we can. Rumor has it you have some big time personalities in the studio working on some music for this project , is that true and can you name a few? EMMANUEL: Yes it’s true, we recorded a track focused on anti-tribalism as part of the campaign which should be released towards the end of the year. It’s a certified anthem and everyone sounds amazing on it. JULIANI: We have many influencers appearing with us including Martha Karua, Jeff Koinange, Jimnah Mbaru and William Ruto. Again, our approach is all-inclusive and we’re working on rallying all the leaders, just as we are members of the public.
Do you feel that people take peace for granted and why? EMMANUEL: I don’t think it’s an issue of taking peace for granted, but realising that peace must be maintained. We continue to respond when disaster strikes but don’t make enough of an effort to ensure it doesn’t happen in the first place. Preventative measures are critical and this is what we’re trying to show people. It is said that “as a man thinketh so shall he become”, does this apply to peace too and if so how? EMMANUEL: Of course, you are a result of your thoughts. I personally feel that if we apply positive thought, think responsibly, understand accountability and realise we are capable of being the change we want to see, only good can come. How can we the general public and civilians help We Want Peace? EMMANUEL: By helping yourselves, first and foremost. We’re hoping our meetings, shows and other activities will create a trickle down effect, encouraging others to hold similar initiatives in their own areas. Slum Dog is a prime example. This is a campaign of ownership. It’s yours. Take the lead and walk with us for a better Kenya. JULIANI: Text 595 and tell us what you’re doing, what you plan on doing, your quotes, ideas and thoughts. The 595 army will stay in Kenya, protect Kenya, and make positive things happen Do you have any events planned for this project? EMMANUEL: Too many. We just visited Dandora, we went to Kibera, we visited schools and have more to go, Juliani has his KAMA SI SISI tour on the way...Slum Dog’s meetings in Kibera, there’s also a movement in Dandora coming together after we visited the area. The message is spreading fast and right. Follow us on the networks and stay updated. JULIANI: Our twitter pages are @EmmanuelJAL and @JulianiKenya, you can find us on facebook easily too, or call 0738 123401 for info. Any Last words? JULIANI: Yea, Jeshi ya better Kenya - let’s do this! JAL: Exactly what he said. Let’s get up, think right, and act right.
Who else is involved in We Want Peace and what are their roles? EMMANUEL: Rozan Ahmed, who’s actually my publicist, is the campaign’s key coordinator and in the process has also become a strong advocate, she recently launched Juliani’s Pulpit Kwa Street LP with an incredible launch on Nairobi’s City Hall Way too. Rozan is by far one of the hardest working women I know! DJ Chris who hosts “The Break Off” on Metro FM has been incredibly supportive, screaming about the campaign whenever he can and getting other DJs involved. We’re also working with Slum Dog, a rapper from Kibera, who was inspired by the message and decided to take it upon himself to organise a series of elders meetings in his area. JULIANI: When we went to my hometown of Dandora, we partnered with Boniface Mwangi and his “Kenya Nikwetu” initiative. The 3 of us organised a tour of the dump site and held a meeting at Kenya’s hiphop birth place. We can’t wait to go visit other parts of Kenya, work with other like-minds, and repeat the inspiring experience over and over, for as long as it takes.

Restoration Taking back what was stolen from you Those of you who may tune into after hours twice a month on Capital FM, know that I come on the show and talk about relationships, love, sex, dating and my past. I always say that my life is an open book, and it is. I have gone through allot in life that many would be ashamed to talk about or even admit. Recently I shared the story of how I had been sexually abused as a child, went on to get raped( not just once) as a young lady and how all that affects my life and relationships today. As I do so, I am glad that other men and women out there can benefit from it. As I say, “it is true experience is the best teacher, but no one said it has to be yours. We can learn from what other have gone through. There are several effects of sexual abuse a few being self blame, shame, promiscuity, post traumatic stress, substance abuse and even death through suicide. These are just some of the ones I went through; fortunately I did not succeed on the last one although I did try. God intended for us all to function at our best, he also made us to be relational creatures and created us to someday wed and live out a happy marriage. Sexual abuse is one of the ways that our ability to function, relate and be spouses is destroyed, stolen or killed by the enemy. A man or a woman who has been sexually assaulted at any point in their lives will be damaged, physically, psychologically, emotionally and spiritually. Getting and functioning in a normal relationship is difficult if at all possible, chances of a normal marriage if at all any are low and their sex life can be affected in either extremes where one becomes promiscuous or shuts down sexually all together. As I have and am learning to take back what was stolen from me, I have also chosen to help others do the same. Particularly, I plan to hold healing days where men, women and children can begin the journey to restoration, take back what was stolen, be and have all God intends for them. I have teamed up with a counselor, who will help me do this, and we begin this October the 29th, we call upon any women who need a day of healing to come, and they that do not need it but can sponsor some of these women to do so. (See poster on Pg 6 for details) It is time to be healed and restored; it is time to take back what was stolen from you. Shalom Miss Boss

The Wajee Mara Camp Many years have come and gone where I often hear about tourists visiting the Masaai Mara, other times I have watched documentaries about animals that have been shot it the Mara or even movies that feature this area. Often, the visitors to the Mara are foreigners and hardly local tourists. I am a Kenyan citizen, thus going to a place like this would be far much cheaper for me than any foreigner, yet for some reason I have never taken an interest in doing so until now. I found a place on one of the local networks online, that had great rates and I just had to find out more. I called up the number and soon became friends with the young man who was going to set up the whole trip for me. I was so excited about the trip that I dropped everything I was doing and even got my son out of school so that he could come along. I know that many may not approve but, while I was out there I realized that this experience was one of the best educational trips he could have. All my life, I have learnt about the big 5 in a class room, about the types of grasslands and landscapes we have in our country but never got to see any of it. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I know that my son learnt more by coming along and seeing all there was to see than all the words in all the books could teach him. We were fortunate to be traveling with some Slovakian tourists which allowed us to learn about their culture too. Wajee Mara camp is located a short distance away from the park. We received a warm welcome, got settled down and were soon taken on our first park visit. As soon as we got passed the park gates, we were met by a selection of various animals such as buffalo and zebra; however, what took our breath away was the live hunt we got to watch where three cheetahs took on a wilder beast. Wajee Mara Camp was the perfect place after an outing in the park to wind down. The food was great and so was the company. Each day, one of the caretakers would come with us to the park and whenever we needed any refreshments they were quick to provide them and also answer various questions about the animals and people. The Wajee Mara camp at the moment is going beyond just having tents for their guests to sleep in, but also building solid structures, rooms that guest may opt to stay in should they not prefer the bush experience. They care takers and the people at the camp were ready to meet our needs at all times, it was the perfect getaway and the best part is we did not have to lift a finger, all we had to do was show up and enjoy the ride.
