HMHP Adopts FairWarning Privacy Software

As an organization dedicated to providing excellent patient care and promoting strong core values, CHP has adopted the FairWarning privacy reporting system for all regions. FairWarning is auditing software that tracts all patient record interactions to guard against any possible breach in patient privacy. With the FairWarning system, patients and families can rest assured their health information is protected. Every interaction with the Electronic Health Record (EHR) leaves a footprint that can be reviewed by the HMHP compliance officer. Usage patterns are audited and analyzed to identify potential privacy breaches such as snooping, identity theft, and noncompliance issues. Compliance routinely performs random audits of the FairWarning data and can also perform “for cause” audits when a concern over potential privacy issues is raised. It’s important to remember that you should only access a medical record when

you have a need to know, you are authorized to know, and it is within the scope of your job responsibilities. You are not permitted to use your system access to review your own health records, those of your family members, or any record that is not within the scope of your job responsibilities. HMHP regards privacy issues very seriously. FairWarning helps HMHP maintain compliance with HITECH and HIPAA privacy regulations and protects patients and health care providers from potential violations. By enacting the FairWarning Privacy reporting system, HMHP is able to enhance patient protection and contribute to best practices for health information protection. If you have any questions or concerns about the FairWarning system, please contact HMHP Corporate Compliance and Privacy Officer, Kathy Proper at (330) 480-3366.

Nursing Update

With New Elekta Infinity™, St Joseph Cancer Center Offers the Fastest, Most Accurate Radiation Therapy Treatments St. Joseph Cancer Center is proud to announce the addition of the state-of-theart Elekta Infinity linear accelerator to its radiation treatment systems, allowing clinicians to deliver treatments with Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT). VMAT is a significant improvement to existing advanced radiation therapy techniques, a treatment session typically can be conducted in five minutes or less, including true 3D imaging at the time and place of treatment. The integrated 3D visualization capabilities of Elekta Infinity result in unmatched clinical confidence, enabling more aggressive treatment of tumors while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue. With Elekta 3D VolumeView™ imaging, clinicians can routinely confirm target and organ-at-risk positions immediately before treatment. This allows confirmation of size, shape, and position of the target volume compared to plan, as well as the position of critical adjacent structures.

by Cathy Tolbert, RN, MSN, NE-BC, FACHE Senior Vice President of Nursing and Clinical Services, Chief Nurse Executive

As a result, Elekta Infinity delivers more radiation to the target while sparing healthy tissue, in significantly less time. Faster treatment times improve patient comfort, which makes it easier for the patient to remain still during treatment and increases the likelihood of delivering radiation more accurately and safely.

A very sincere thank you to all for supporting the nurses during Nurses Week. They truly appreciated the funding that the medical staff provided for gifts and activities. During the following months, the nursing division will continue work on improving the patient experience and the efficiency of our patient throughput. Hourly rounding and the I-Care communication skills are being utilized to improve the patient experience. To improve the efficiency of our patient throughput, roles and responsibilities of the charge nurse are changing, the length of stay are tracked by unit and specific patient LOS issues are being addressed. In addition, other metrics such as the minutes from the time an admitted patient arrives in ED to the time they leave the ED are being tracked. We are beginning to make progress on both the patient experience and patient throughput.

There's a very special flag hoisted above the St. Joseph Minor Emergency & Diagnostic Center and Community Care Center on Tod Place in Warren. When the facility was in need of a new flag, Philip Starr, DO decided they needed a special flag. He contacted Senator Sherrod Brown's office for a flag that had flown over the United States Capital Building in Washington, DC. Dr. Starr purchased the flag for the center and the community to enjoy.

Electronic Health Record System Dr. Edward J. Novosel A nice trend of compliance was shown in the three months of May, June, and July with the O/E Ratio at St. Joseph at/or below the designated HMHP goal (1.11). I would like to offer congratulations to all. Continue your fine work in participating in this endeavor. Your work is appreciated. Also on the bright side, the participation in the Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) has shown a slight increase. We still are encouraging doctors to enter their own orders and use order sets. Again, thanks for your participation. Chart deficiencies continue to be a challenge and one on one coaching is available at your request. Obviously, there is good work being done, but there remains room for improvement. Once again, thanks.
