PROJECT
CLARINDA STREET RESIDENCE 5 CLARINDA STREET CAULFIELD SOUTH, VIC 3162
The 20/20 House
PROFILE The 20/20 House is the newly built family home for the Director of Grün Eco Design; while construction of the project was underway before my integration with the team at Grün, my role was that of primary liaison for the builders as construction was completed.
Grün Eco Design Residential Completed 2022 2021-2022 Interior Documentation Construction Documentation
This involved responding to and resolving several time-critical builder RFIs to ensure construction wasn’t delayed, largely revolving around adaptations to details to ensure Passive House compliance, as well as some last minute redesigns due to council’s contradictory advice regarding our capacity to build over an existing obsolete easement. Photograph: Grün Eco Design
While overseeing work on my own employer’s house was uniquely daunting, this project also offered valuable insight into the requirements and strategies needed in order to achieve the high performance standards necessary in a Passive House Project.

One of the unique features of this project is that one townhouse was to be Passive House certified, whereas the neighbouring one was only intended to aim for high performance without the extra steps and costs necessary for certification. This lead to several unique and often complex junction details being required, as well as a high level of attention to detail in order to correctly demarcate and maintain both construction standards. 35mm timber battens

Another unusual feature of this project was that the client herself was the structural engineer - while this meant that all drawings were subject to greater scrutiny than on a more typical project, it was also an excellent opportunity to 1 Detail 7 directly collaborate with all parties seamlessly to ensure the optimal outcome, and was fantastic opportunity to develop my own knowledge in this area. PROFILE Japara Cluster B is an extensive refurbishment and limited extensions to three existing aged care facilities in the Surf Coast Shire. I worked as part of a small team to design and document the interior joinery and select appropriate finishes and fixtures in close collaboration with both the client and builder to ensure all outcomes would be suitable for the specialised needs of elderly residents.
Render: Ewert Leaf
Particular attention had to be paid to the needs of residents with limited or impaired faculties and how they could successfully navigate and comfortably use any proposed designs, requiring a nuanced and iterative design approach. (Renders: Ewert Leaf) CRITICAL SKILLS - Documentation and client/consultant liaison through sketch design and planning processes - Extensive knowledge of DDA requirements as well as more subtle requirements for aged care facilities such as clear colour / texture delineation between spaces and durability requirements of specified materials and finishes timeframes and and to to aa limited limitedbudget budget - Ability to work within unusually tight timeframes
