The training mission consisted of three C-130 aircrafts, with six people on each craft. The planes arrived around 4:30 p.m. and conducted tactical approaches for about an hour. he 5th Annual Talimena 13.1 Run and Relay benefiting Polk County Developmental Center (PCDC) was held on March 10. We had another successful event and are thankful that the rain by-passed us!

There were 32 individuals who registered to run the half-marathon distance of 13.1 miles from Janssen Park to Queen Wilhelmina Lodge! Five 13-Person teams registered to do the relay and one 4-Person Team.

ine Crest Cemetery recently held their Annual Meeting. The main purpose of the Annual Meeting is to elect new officers of the parent organization, Pine Crest Gardens, Inc. The 2017 officers were all re-elected for 2018, and include Chris Daniel as President, Joe Bunch as Vice President, Jimmy Rackley as Secretary, and Moppy Billingsley as Treasurer. Board members include Judith Roberson, Randolph Emerson, Randy Turner, Tim Masters and Wingo Johnson. Pine Crest Cemetery operates on money from cemetery space sales, tax-deductible donations and is maintained yearround. Chamber and A&P Plaques Presented to Veterans CONTINUED FROM FRONT PAGE

interviewed on February 5th. During the interview they discussed how awarding the Chamber with the contract would boost tourism and improve festivals and events currently in place.

The Advertising and Promotion Committee selected the Chamber of Commerce unanimously to go ahead with the contract. moving forward, they plan to, among other things, open the Train Depot on a regular basis as a fully functioning visitors center.

This has been attempted in the past, and is currently being covered by volunteers.

Ashley Smith, the Executive Director of the Mena Polk County Chamber of Commerce, told the Pulse that she’s very excited to move forward with this contract in la e. he thin thi will benefit to ri m in innumerable ways, given the wide array of talent and skills between both the Chamber and the A&P.

n the past few weeks, Disabled Veteran Auxiliary Members have been presenting plaq ues to local veterans at assisted living facilities. These plaq ues are placed on the door of each veteran’s room in order to proudly show that the resident is a veteran.

On February 23, 2018, DAV Auxiliary Members Linda Spurgin and Carol Burns presented the plaq ues to Mr. Victor Whitman, residing at Mena Manor, and also to Mr. James Kraus, Mr. Billy Walker, and Mr. N ewton Clement, residing at Rich Mountain N ursing and Rehab.

These students and volunteers have worked very hard to attain a goal that is nothing short of spectacular.

This year the Polk County 4-H is lucky enough to have had six of its members elected to represent Polk County and Arkansas as a whole in Washington. These students have worked hard along with support of the others members of Polk County 4-H, and its volunteer, adult leadership, have raised all but $1,000 of the money needed to be able to take the trip. Carla Vaught was adamant about how this is a “ life changing event,” for these youngsters, and about how great it is that they even were chosen. Of the thousands of 4-H members state wide only nineteen were chosen, and six of those 9 were from our county.

ork-related inj uries occurring on or after July 1, 2018, will fall under Rule 09 9 .41. This rule was a o te to reg late me i ation e ifi ally o ioi in order to reduce potential addictions. At the same time, it’s expected to reduce pharmaceutical costs in workers’ compensation claims.

Over the past year, the Commission has gathered re ear h rom the enter or i ea e ontrol an revention, U AMS, and other states with similar rules before launching this rule. The Commission also gathered research from Arkansas, as a similar rule has been in place or tate go ernment em loyee . any mo ifi ation were ma e to the original ra t an the mo ifie er ion was approved by the Arkansas Legislative Council to take effect in July of this year.

Currently, Rule 09 9 .41 applies to new inj uries, but the Commission plans to examine existing claims in the future.

The Air Force released its original design for C-130s in 19 51, which means these aircrafts have been in service for over half a century. They lfill a wi e range o o erational missions in both peace and war times, as this aircraft can airdrop up to 42,000 pound loads and land on short airstrips in combat zones. When asked what the event entails, Mrs. Martin informed us that “ Walk Across Polk County” is an eight-week event that begins the second week of March and lasts until May 5th. The event consists of teams of two to eight people that are contending to call themselves the most active of all the teams involved. Every individual pays ten dollars and are encouraged to exercise, and keep a record of the time and distances that they walk.

Mrs. Martin said that they really are looking to see more family participation, and that the event is for all ages, and all walks of life. There are prizes and awards for performance and placement, but the main purpose behind this event is to encourage a more health conscious and active Polk County. There are still believers who do not yet understand that the prayer that begins “our father which art in Heaven…” is the model prayer and not the Lord’s Prayer. The prayer to which I refer is recorded in the seventeenth chapter of the Gospel of John. And in that prayer He, the Son of God, prayed for us! No, not by our individual names, but very clearly He prayed for us. While praying for those first believers, He also prayed for us. Hear His words: “Neither pray I for these alone (those first believers) but for them also which shall believe on Me through their word” (John 17:20) That is us! We are those to whom Jesus referred! And in that prayer He prayed four things for us: First, He prayed that the father would “keep” us. “Holy Father, keep them through thine own name those whom Thou has given Me.” (John 17:11) What a joy it is to know that we are kept to God, for God, and by God. We could never, not even the best of us, could even come close. But God can. And He will, because His only begotten Son prayed that He would!

Second, He prayed that the Father would “…keep them from the evil,” the word “evil” being a noun, points to Satan himself, who is evil incarnate. The New King James Bible makes it clear about this by translating it in this manner: “…keep them form the evil one” referring clearly to Satan. (17:15) Third, Jesus prayed for our “sanctification:” “Sanctify them through thy Truth, Thy Word is Truth” (17:17). His prayer is that we will grow up in our faith and in our likeness to Him. In Sanctification God removes certain things from our lives and adds certain things to us. He does this all the days of our lives from the moment we met Jesus until we go to be with Him (17:17). And the cleansing, purifying agent for this is the Word of God, the Holy Bible. In order for sanctification to achieve its purpose the believer must be into this Word…no options here.

Fourth, He prayed for Oneness in His Body. (17:11, 21, 22) And the oneness He prayed for was not for just one little group of believers, not just for one denomination, but for all who know Him as Lord and Savior. And His prayer was not for the temporary, up and down, in and out, kind of oneness, but it was of the same kind and quality that He and the Father share. When we finally understand how the Son and the Father related then we will understand how we are to relate to each other.

“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe in Me through their words, that they may ALL be one, as Thou Father art in Me and I in Thee, that they also may be one in us, that the world may believe that Thou hast sent Me.” If the world does not know that God the Father sent Jesus (God the Son) then, according to His prayer one major reason, perhaps THE major reason, is that, though the Body of Christ is One, it is sadly broken into many small pieces. And a broken “church” can never accurately represent a Christ of wholeness. We are one, and it is far past time that we live that oneness! A lost and dying world depends on it. There is no other Savior than this One Whom the Father DID send. Every Christian is a brother or sister to every other Christian. We are one in Christ.

“One in Christ.” This is His heart. But is only happens if we ARE IN CHRIST. Many know about Him who do not know Him. They may have UNITY for a while, but they do not have Oneness. Unity is based on agreement on issues; oneness is based on the essence of our being, and that being must be in Christ, not around Him nor just about Him, but In Him. Mena Police Department March 4, 2018 Jamie Lee May, 35, of Mena was arrested on three outstanding warrants.

March 5, 2018 Brandon L. Everett, 27, of Mena, was arrested on fi e outstanding warrants.

Shalena Allen, 41, of Mena was arrested for disorderly conduct, obstructing governmental operations, and refusal to submit to arrest.

A local woman reported that her wallet had been stolen from her residence. Case is pending location and interview of suspect.

March 6, 2018 Bobby R. May, 30, of Mena was arrested on four outstanding warrants from both the Polk County Sheriff and the Mena Police.

Brandy Fay Sanders, 31, of Mena was arrested on three outstanding warrants from the Mena Police Department for failure to pay fines and court costs.

Adam Dollarhyde, 29, of Mena was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Michael Wayne Williams, 46 of Mena was arrested on three outstanding warrants.

March 7, 2018 Christopher A. Knebel, 20, of Pearcy was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

He was picked up in Garland County, and local officers tra eled there to bring him back to Polk County.

Report was made of a man harassing his estranged wife. Case is pending.

Stacie Leann Shores, 27, of Mena was arrested on outstanding warrant.

March 8, 2018 Jeremie E. Williamson, 42, of Mena turned himself in on two outstanding warrants for failure to pay fines and court costs.

A report was made of a woman stealing shoes from a local clothing store. After iewing sur eillance tapes officers were able to identify the woman. Case has been
