Mena man sentenced to federal prison A Mena man has been sentenced to over 11 years in federal prison for attempted online enticement of a minor. Fifty-three-year-old Kevin DeHart of Mena was sentenced Nov. 9 to 135 months in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release on one count of Attempted Online Enticement of a Minor. According to court records, in

July of 2017 the Mena Police department was conducting an undercover investigation into the online enticement of minors to engage in sexually activity in the Mena area. During the operation law enforcement utilized an online persona of a 14-year-old male while logged in to an undercover social media account.

An individual later identified as DeHart contacted the 14-year-old persona and began to question it in an illegal manner. At the end of the conversation specific plans were set up between DeHart and the purported minor to meet at DeHart’s residence. Law enforcement set up surveil-See Sentenced, continued pg. 3

City plans for Christmas Parade of Lights It’s that time of year when downtown Mena transforms into a place of wonder and magic for children and adults alike with our Annual Mena Christmas Parade of Lights. The magical and lively parade will make its way down Mena Street on Saturday, December 1 at 6 p.m., continuing on to Oak Avenue, DeQueen Street, Hwy 71 South and 7th Avenue, ending at Historic Janssen Park. You’ll see hundreds of smiling faces along the spectacular one-mile parade route as they delight in the sights and sounds of the season. This is Mena’s biggest and brightest parade, making it a holiday favorite you won’t want to miss. Tiffany Lane, 2017 Volunteer of the Year, will be proudly leading the parade as our esteemed Grand Marshall. Lane won't be the only star of the show because Santa Claus is coming to town! Santa has marked his calendar to make a special appearance in Mena, Arkansas. For kids young and old, visions of jolly Ol’St.Nick mark the true beginning of the season and provide a fitting close to the night’s parade. There will be a contest for the floats and entries with the best interpretation of the theme: “Favorite Movies of Christmas.” There is a new “People’s Choice” category to be voted on this year. Parade attendees can cast their votes on the Mena/Polk County Chamber of Commerce Facebook

Classic ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ Community meeting planned A Community Engagement Part- within a community is to establish to be presented by OLT nership Meeting has been sched- a community panel that consists of The Ouachita Little Theatre will be presenting “It’s A Wonderful Life” this holiday season. In 1946, Frank Capra released his most beloved film of all time; “It’s A Wonderful Life.” It starred James Stewart and Donna Reed who played George and Mary Bailey; a couple whose simple and unselfish lives have inspired generations. Over the years, this film has become a classic, one of American cinema’s most loved movies. The story centers on George, who has given up his own dreams in order to make the lives of those around him improve. When these sacrifices have made his own life seemingly unbearable, George is driven to the point of considering suicide. While standing on a bridge, ready to plunge into freezing water, his guardian angel, Clarence intervenes. George is given a rare gift; to see what his community of Bedford Falls and the lives of those who he has touched would be like if he had never been born.

This beloved film has been made into a stage play that is being performed by OLT. Under the direction of Linda Johnson, who has been working with her large cast and crew for months preparing this delightful Christmas show to entertain Polk County audiences. The message of the play is undeniably positive, and is both funny, dramatic, and suitable for all ages. It is among the best family entertainment you will find in the area to kindle the holiday spirit. The production opens Friday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. with continuing performances scheduled for Sat., Dec. 8, Sun., Dec. 9, and Fri., Dec.14, Sat., Dec. 15, and Sun., Dec.16. Friday and Saturday performances start at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees are at 2:30 p.m. Advance seating tickets are on sale now at the OLT office, located at 610 Mena Street, weekdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are also available at the door. The OLT encourages you to attend this weekend or next.

Reisig releases new novel Fans of Mena author Michael Reisig’s “Road To Key West” series will be happy to know that the adventure continues in the ninth book of the bestselling series, “A Pirates Road To Key West.” Reisig once again locks his readers into a careening odyssey of hidden fortunes, mercurial romance, conscienceless villains, and bizarre friends. From Caracas to New Orleans, into the dark fringes of Haiti, down through the Windward Islands, then back into The Florida Keys, Kansas Stamps, Will Bell, and The Hole In The Coral Wall Gang chase a stolen Pre-Columbian treasure. Then there’s the Voodoo-practicing drug boss, a vengeful Columbian Don, and a highly artful assassin. Before you can catch your breath,

it all rolls together into a turbulent Key West Fantasy Fest finale. So, sit back, pour yourself a margarita, and slide into the islands one more time. You’re on “The Road” again. Be it Key West, South America, The Caribbean – or the cramped cockpit of a questionable aircraft, Reisig writes with the subtle, but specific familiarity of someone who’s actually lived it. His real-life experiences in Key West’s legendary outlaw era, and his well-researched accuracy, brings a balance and believability to the far-flung adventures that offer readers a sun-drenched escape from the nonfiction of everyday life. The book is available for purchase on Amazon.

Reflections From Faith and History Thanksgiving and Thanksliving-By Jeff Olson It has often been said that Thanksgiving is the original American holiday. More significantly, it is an American institution; a stable

remnant of our national heritage which still serves as the best opportunity for people of all distinctions to express in unity each year

the thankfulness which we all can share and express to our God. The historic truths of Thanksgiving’s Christian origin and biblical foundation in America, as well as some of the traditions that have stemmed from this, serve to remind us of God’s blessing on us as a people and His Divine Providence over us as a nation. During the past four centuries, this celebration has served to reinforce our spiritual moorings and our bonds within our homes, churches, and communities, and has been an integral part of our national identity. This special observance can today serve as much- needed common thread to help mend a society which has become torn and fragmented into a myriad of special interest groups through the lens of identity politics, class warfare, and multiculturalism.

With a decline in respect for those values and institutions which once united us as a people, this is very important if we hope to ever regain at least some of the cultural cohesiveness necessary for us to once again become one nation - one nation under God. In the words of President Abraham Lincoln: “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” (Mark 3: 24-25) Let's take a brief look back: After their arduous sixty-five day sea journey across the Atlantic Ocean "undertaken, for ye glorie of God and advancement of ye Christian faith and honour of our king and countrie," the Pilgrims suffered through a harsh New England winter in which almost half of their families and friends died. -See History, continued pg. 16 N O T I C E

The Bearcats kicked the ball off to Shiloh to begin the game. A couple of plays into their first drive, the Saints scored on a short 1-yard touchdown run, but failed their two-point-conversion try, to make the score 6-0 with around ten minutes left in the first quarter. Mena was forced to punt on their first offensive possession of the game. The Saints earned possession of the ball again and scored on a 66-yard touchdown pass, to make the score 12-0, after a failed

-History, from pg. 5

They were soon befriended by members of the Wampanoag Tribe who taught the naive colonists about fishing, planting and hunting. In early autumn 1621, after the Pilgrims had reaped a bountiful harvest and preserved enough food to allow them to survive the coming winter, they shared a threeday feast and prayer service with

their Native American friends to celebrate the harvest and the transformation of their fortunes from the previous winter. This is traditionally considered the first Thanksgiving in America. I believe that our Pilgrim Forefathers saw thanksgiving in a broader scope - that of thanksLIVING in which they sought to live each and every day with a mindset and heart of thankfulness (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
