PORTFOLIO 4.05.2016 MYRA IMRAN
Textile Design
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
The amount of hard work and effort I‟ve put in was definitely not possible without the guidance of my teachers whose sheer knowledge aided me and motivated me at every step of the ladder that I climbed. Also, I‟d like to give a big standing ovation to my family without their massive support and enlightenment I would never have been able to come this far. I am what I am because of my family- my parents; especially my father who is always more eager than me for my work and assignments supplying me with whatever materials I need also sometimes providing me with excessive materials which I don‟t even require at that time. Last but definitely not the least I‟d like to pay my gratitude to my mother and grandmother, without their constant motivation and expert advices and motivational pills I would be on the verge of giving up but they always had me going and they played a massive role in building me as a strong woman that I am today.

For my first assignment a home-task was assigned to me that was to collect 10 to 15 images based on personal experience solely. The experience could be of any sort that weâ€&#x;ve had in the year 2014-2015. However I was only limited to my own photography and any sort of access to internet was restricted. Moreover, I used my dreams as my experience and it was not humanly possible to photograph my dreams hence I took inspiration from dream artists like Salvador Dali since he is a surrealist painter and my dreams are often surreal and quiet vivid, a lot of happenings occur in my dreams which are often unusual and I felt that my dream

experience was relatable to Daliâ€&#x;s work thus I took his work as a reference and therefore the effect of my mood board is surreal and here Iâ€&#x;ve also tried to show a happening sort of feel. The Color palette used in this mood board is inspired by Salvador Dali. I intended to give a surreal effect because my experience was related to my dreams that are often surreal and quiet peculiar.

Digitally Rendered Images taken from my drawing and then converted and manipulated digitally. This work was also carried ahead in Cad where I digitally manipulated my own drawings and made various different arrangements.

Mood Board inspired by visit to Joyland depicting a „Topsy Turvy world full of joyâ€&#x;. Later we were then introduced to another very intriguing task that was to visit Joyland; an amusement park situated in Fortress Lahore and take photographs. Throughout this assignment we had to keep color proportions and color forecasts in our mind. We were asked to search color related work from websites like Pantone WGSN etc. As repeatable prints are pretty much a trend nowadays thus being Textile Design students we experienced making repeatable arrangements as well.

Digitally Rendered Arrangements The following are a few of the many arrangements that I contrived by the help of Photoshop in Cad. These arrangements follow the effect of my statement which is “A Topsy turvy world I choose this specific statement recalling my experience where I sat on discovery (a ride that can also be seen quiet prominently in my arrangements) which literally showed me a whole new world while I was upside down. My world was Topsy turvy for those 10 minutes of my life when I sat on discovery and lost all hopes of making out alive from that ride. It was truly one lethal experience I had in my 2o years of life.

Furthermore one manipulated arrangement from CAD was taken ahead in printing for screen exposing after it was made repeatable.

Various Techniques in reference to screen printing were implemented like Flock printing and Foil printing.

For my final exam I was provided with a mere storyboard as a reference and rest of the work was entirely based on each individualâ€&#x;s interpretation of the storyboard.

NATURE IS ART‟S OWN LANGUAGE! Since my keyword was Artsy which was inspired by nature itself. In my arrangement I aimed to portray nature as if it‟s speaking its own language; it‟s trying to express something.

For Print Technology an assignment related to Ralli- Patch work was assigned to us, in which I used Truck art as my Inspiration and produced two layouts amongst which one was selected as final.
Final layout set in repeat. Famous catch phrases like Pout, yeh dil hai ashikana, fasla na rakhein pyar honay dain hain been used here that are often the highlight of any Pakistani truck art.

Conclusion Semester 3and 4 were both very exciting and filled with various assignments that had a lot to offer. All the assignments always had something new teaching us exciting things. All the work that we did throughout the semester also taught us how things were linked in the background and how the final layout is produced in a final product form. Compiling this portfolio came as a wholesome experience for me which was interesting as well as challenging as I had to compile it during my finals. Waiting for new challenges and more assignments that could enhance my knowledge for good.
