AN AMERICAN LEADER: THE LIFE AND PRESIDENCY OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN EXPLORE THE LINCOLN MUSEUM
Our first stop will be the Lincoln Museum, located in downtown Hodgenville in the National Historic District. The museum will follow the most pivotal points in the life of the sixteenth US president, from exhibits depicting the “Cabin Years” to the devastating assassination in “Ford’s Theatre.” Through a series of dioramas, exhibits, campaign posters, memorabilia, and life-size wax figures, we begin to piece together the importance that President Lincoln holds for the United States.
STEP INTO LINCOLN SQUARE
We will depart the museum and make our way to Lincoln Square to view the six-foot-tall bronze statue of President Lincoln sitting in an Empirestyle chair. A tall, bearded man will step out from behind the monument and introduce himself as “Abraham Lincoln,” the sixteenth president. The impersonator will begin to share stories of his past, highlighting key events during his presidency.
VISIT THE ABRAHAM LINCOLN BIRTHPLACE NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE
We continue our journey and after a short drive, our motorcoach will arrive at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site, where we will learn about Lincoln’s humble beginnings. Discover how Abe's childhood shaped him with the character and leadership skills it would take to later make the decision to keep from dividing a nation; to fight for quality.
WATCH A SHORT FILM AND VISIT SINKING SPRING
After a visit to the Visitor Center, where a short film will be played, we finish our day at Sinking Spring – a freshwater spring where Lincoln and his family got their daily water supply. As the water trickles down into the spring, reflect on the remarkable impact that one man had on the people of the United States. Please Note: There will be a $50 fully refundable deposit placed on each stateroom for each guest who books this tour. The deposit will be removed once the tour has been taken.

American Queen Voyages Shore Excursions has received special permission from the Fort Knox Public Affairs Office to create this one-of-akind opportunity for our guests. Discover the historical and current role that Fort Knox plays in the development and strengthening of the United States armed forces.
EXPLORE THE GENERAL GEORGE PATTON MUSEUM
The original museum was opened in 1949 and showcased armored vehicles and items associated with General Patton. Today, the renovated and revitalized museum uses history as a vehicle to explore the leadership and legacy of one of America’s most prolific World War II Generals. Explore the largest collection of Patton artifacts, some of which were initially gathered by the General himself during his lifetime.
TAKE A LOOK INSIDE THE PROTECTED GATES
Once we re-board the motorcoach, we’ll embark on a driving exploration of Fort Knox. Discover the facilities of the fort and explore the cantonment area. Take further advantage of this opportunity inside the protected gates of Fort Knox for a question and answer session with our expert guide, who will provide insights into the history, security, and secrecy of Fort Knox.
GET A TASTE OF "ARMORED DIESEL"
While the life of General Patton may spark images of a hard-working, stern, and rugged leader, he was also known to sit back once in a while with a great-tasting Kentucky tradition: Bourbon. At Kentucky’s Boundary Oak Distillery, we’ll receive a personalized tour from the Master Distiller. Of course, no visit to a Kentucky distillery would be complete without a tasting. Boundary Oak Distillery offers a variety of bourbons, but they are known for their unique lavender bourbon and a Patton “Armored Diesel” bourbon, modeled after the very same recipe General Patton would share with his troops.

MEMPHIS Memphis’ first settlers were Native Americans who were drawn to the area’s bluffs overlooking the river. By building their settlements on the Fourth Chickasaw Bluff, it protected them from flooding, and the mighty river allowed them easy transportation access. When the explorer Hernando DeSoto and his army arrived in Memphis in 1541, they set up camp and the city of Memphis exchanged hands with the Spanish, French and English, eventually being sold to the U.S. Government. Today, Memphis is nationally recognized for its contributions to our country’s music influences. THE NATIONAL QUILT MUSEUM
Celebrating 30 years in 2021, the National Quilt Museum is the largest of its kind in the world. The museum features over 600 pieces of art highlighting a collection of modern quilts and changing thematic exhibitions that celebrate the talent and diversity of the global quilting community.
LOWER TOWN ARTS DISTRICT
Lower Town is one of Paducah’s oldest and significantly historic residential neighborhoods.
FLOODWALL MURALS
These incredible works of art span “wall to wall” across 3 linear blocks of historic Paducah. They were started over twenty years ago by Robert Dafford and his team of artists. The murals portray images of Paducah and the river basin’s history, creating a nice backdrop for the city where flooding once was prevalent.
LLOYD TILGHMAN HOUSE
This historic Greek Revival house was built in 1852 for Lloyd Tilghman, a new member of Paducah’s community at the time. Tilghman, his wife, their seven children, and five slaves resided in the home until 1861.
PADUCAH RAILROAD MUSEUM
The original Freight House (across the parking lot from the Museum) was built in 1925 by the Nashville, Chattanooga, and St. Louis Railway. In 1996, the Freight House was sold and the Museum moved to a building one-half block away. Here, learn the history of the railroad and those who used it, explore the authentic train models, and enjoy the memorabilia showcased for guests.
RIVER DISCOVERY CENTER
In 1988, Mayor Gerry Montgomery and her committee pursued the development of a museum to showcase the Four Rivers Region’s maritime heritage. The River Heritage Center was planned in 1992 as the very beginning stages of the mayor’s dream. Here, explore artifacts, exhibits, and interactive displays that share the history of marine life and the history of the river.

CHECK-IN ALONG THE CHITLIN' TRAIL HIGHLIGHTS
IMAGINE THE YEAR 1915...
The year is 1915 and America is disjointed by segregation and heavily governed by Jim Crow Laws. In the heart of the country sat Paducah, Kentucky, a quaint, yet bustling city on the Chittlin’ Trail. Deemed one of the very few safe and acceptable areas for African American entertainers to perform in the early to mid-1900s, the Chittlin’ Trail saw hundreds of musicians as they made the journey from New Orleans to Chicago leaving traces of jazz, blues and soul in their wake.
STEP ONTO A PART OF THE HISTORIC CHITLIN' TRAIL
Step into the radiating heat of the Kentucky sun and meet Miss Maggie, a ball of southern energy and hospitality. As she opens the door to this historical hotel, time turns back a century. Miss Maggie used her undeniable determination and willpower to establish this much needed “colored” hotel in 1909, an almost unfathomable task for a black woman at the time.
TRAVEL THROUGH THIS RUSTIC COLONIAL SAFE HAVEN
Follow Miss Maggie through the rooms as she shares the rich history this hotel has stowed in its walls. Listen as she gossips about its past boarders, including B.B. King, Billie Holiday, and Ike and Tina Turner, just to name a few in the hotel’s famous guest book. If you listen closely, you can almost hear the laughter and music reverberating through the halls, bellowing out into the streets of Paducah and enveloping the neighborhood.

Pre-Cruise Port of Call
PITTSBURGH The city was founded in 1764 and was an industrial hub for coal mining and steel production. Pittsburgh played an important part in U.S. history from the early days of the French and Indian War, the Revolutionary War, the infamous Whiskey Rebellion to the American Civil War with its secretive Underground Railroad stops. Up through the mid-1950s, Pittsburgh was the nation’s eighth-largest city, accounting for nearly half of the national steel output. In the 1970s and 80s steel production all but disappeared from its landscape. The city has since reinvented itself with their sports teams, education, and medicine.
