For centuries, the Keweenaw Peninsula was a bountiful copper mining community. At the Keweenaw National Historic Park Visitor Center, explore the story of the copper fever that swept the area and its impact on the community. Long before settlers arrived, Native Americans would use the copper to make tools for survival.

EXPLORE THE PAST

The Ermatinger stone house has been restored to depict the life of Charles Oakes Ermatinger, a wealthy 19th-century fur trader. The second stone building, the Clergue Blockhouse, was relocated to this site in 1996. The bottom stone section of the home dates all the way back to 1819. After our day of exploration, visit the onsite gift shop for the perfect souvenir!

This house turned museum immerses guests in the lifestyle of the 1930’s depression era. Once a single-family home, the Scolnik house was split into two separate apartments during the Great Depression.

FIRE BARN MUSEUM

The Fire Barn Museum is dedicated to firefighting equipment spanning from the late 1800’s to present day. The building is modeled after the Hackley Hose Company #2, a historic fire station that was designed by lumber baron Charles Hackley.
