Baidu Eye: the Chinese Version of Google Glass

For the first time Chinese Internet giant Baidu has unveiled its version of Google Glass called as “Baidu Eye” – the working prototype of the wearable tech device. The device was shown at the Baidu World conference in Beijing and the look of this device is much like a Google Glass. The idea for the Baidu Eye was first announced last year in April 2013. The most interesting differences between Google Glass and Baidu Eye is that the Eye does not have a screen or any type of optical display. Rather than, Baidu Eye has a wraparound headset that rest on your ears with an earpiece on the left side and a camera on the right. The camera is use to take photos, recognize objects and analyze information in its path. The device also allows for signals and voice commands, but in Mandarin. For instance you can zoom and circle the objects with the help of your finger to examine and isolate it. This is a very cunning function of the device, however you may look little weird while doing it in public place.

Overall Baidu Eye has somewhat the exact functions of what Google Glass has, but with slight differences here and there. The device is also capable of sending information to a user’s mobile devices (tablet or smartphone) via an associated app. At last, the Baidu Eye is actually a smaller and a screenless version of Google Glass that only listen to Mandarian Voice command. However the technology used in device is great, that may raise the same question as Google Glass did – “Will people really use it?

However, I guess that Baidu eye will get more success in the East as Google Glass already available in West. Till then we have to simply wait and see, as this is only prototype. Currently the company has not yet provided any information on launch date and pricing of the Baidu Eye device.
