MovembeR NO SHAVE NOVEMBER
HOW IT STARTED! In 2003, two mates Travis Garone and Luke Slattery from Melbourne Australia were having a quiet beer at the Gypsy Bar on Brunswick St, Fitzroy when their conversation turned to recurring fashion trends. They questioned where the Mo had gone and joked about bringing it back. The two friends decided to talk their mates into growing a Mo. Inspired by a friend’s mother who was fundraising for breast cancer, they decided to make the campaign about men’s health and prostate cancer. They designed rules and guidelines for Movember (which are still in place today) and agreed to charge ten dollars to grow a Mo. Travis designed the first Movember logo, and they sent around an email titled Are you man enough to be my man? They found 30 guys willing to take up the challenge.
Prostate cancer is a disease which only affects men. Cancer begins to grow in the prostate - a gland in the male reproductive system.
THE PROSTATE The prostate is a gland found only in males. It is located just below the bladder and in front of the rectum. The size of the prostate varies with age. In younger men, it is about the size of a walnut, but it can be much larger in older men. The tube that carries urine (the urethra) runs through the center of the prostate. The prostate contains cells that make some of the fluid (semen) that protects and nourishes the sperm. The prostate begins to develop before birth and keeps on growing until a man becomes an adult. Male hormones (called androgens) such as testosterone cause this growth. The prostate usually stays at about the same size or grows slowly in adults, as long as male hormones are present.
Prostate gland is approximately the size of a walnut. Prostate cancer is mostly a very slow progressing disease. In fact, many men die of old age, without ever knowing they had prostate cancer - it is only when an autopsy is done that doctors know it was there. www.medicalnewstoday.com

MO ARE NOT ONLY FOR THE BROS, SISTA. Never a truer word was spoken, when it was said that behind every great man, stands a great woman. Wise words indeed from a past generation, words which are as meaningful today as the day they were uttered. Whilst a Mo Bro may grow, it is the Mo Sista that is often the driving force, first planting the seed (of an idea) and then carefully working away behind the scenes of fine moustachery for the 30 days of Movember. A Mo Sista is essentially a woman who loves a Mo. An individual that is dedicated to supporting the Mo Bros in her life through their moustache growing journey; whether it be a friend, colleague, family member, partner or boyfriend. These inspirational women are committed to raising awareness of men's health issues and much needed funds for men's health along the way. At Movember we acknowledge the Mo Sistahood and celebrate their role as purveyors of fine moustaches.
And for that here is a honorary Stache.
