FROM THE DESK OF… LAURA DAMIAN, GENERAL MANAGER The first half of 2020 has been a whirlwind! Being born and raised in this city, I never thought I would see the day when Las Vegas turned the lights off and closed their doors.
I
n March, our governor announced Las Vegas would be officially closing with no date on when our city would reopen. With doubt and uncertainty on what was going to happen, we all had to adjust and wait on what was to come next. So, what does that mean exactly- and how did it impact our lives? With businesses and schools closed, we found ourselves spending all of our time at home with our families. Parents had to transition into educators and continue with the curriculum as best as possible alongside teachers through a virtual class setting. Some took this time to self-reflect, start a new hobby or got back to doing something they really loved but never had time to do anymore. Many got creative with new cuisine dishes, home workouts, DIY crafts and even took to the outdoors and rode bikes down Las Vegas Blvd! With a city as resilient as ours, we found ourselves coming together as a community supporting small businesses by “shopping locally.” Many businesses and individuals donated masks, donated food to healthcare front line workers, and vol-

unteered their time with other essential product drives. Now, that’s what I call #VegasStronger! As we continue the reopening phases, I am excited for all the changes and improvements we are implementing in our ceaseless city and at MYVEGAS. One of the projects I am super excited about is the introduction of MYVEGAS Latino. Being a Latin American woman in business, I have the pleasure of spearheading this project and giving back to my Latin community. More details on this venture will be released soon, so stay tuned! We are also now hitting the streets and going digital. We are offering mobile billboard advertising and countless digital packages to ensure your business is being seen! We’ve also unleashed MYVEGAS Music, where artists can record and create their own music or covers. A personal hobby of mine, music has always been a huge passion and I am glad that our community can make their dreams a reality with our help! In this issue, we are proud to feature MYVEGAS’ 2020 Top 100 Men of Success.
These men have had such a positive impact on our community and continue to make our city a better and safer place. I would like to congratulate every one of them on behalf of the MYVEGAS team. CONGRATULATIONS! From the entire MYVEGAS family, we wish you health and happiness in 2020! And that’s the scoop! MV

ASK THE DISTRICT HEALTH OFFICER: DR. FERMIN LEGUEN ACTING CHIEF HEALTH OFFICER SOUTHERN NEVADA HEALTH DISTRICT MYVEGAS had the opportunity to ask our Southern Nevada District Health Officer these 5 questions about the health and safety guidelines set in place during this pandemic. We all have questions, and we thank the Health District for taking the time to get answers to our readers! Read his answers below:
Q A
How we can support the new health protocols set in place by the health district COVID-19 prevention? Everyone can support efforts to protect against COVID-19 by abiding by all the public health recommendations put into place. Some of the most important things to do are to continue to practice social distancing, staying home if possible and wearing cloth facemasks if you go out. If you are sick or if you think you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, you should stay home if you are experiencing mild signs/symptoms, monitor your health for symptoms and self-quarantine; please call your primary care provider or doctor’s office before going to their facility.
Q
There have been debates on the effectiveness of facemasks, especially regarding them being optional for residents but mandatory for service workers. What is the SNV health districts position on the importance of facemasks? We know that people with coronavirus can be infected and not have any signs or symptoms and still spread the disease or be infectious before they begin to feel sick. It is for this reason that the Health District and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are recommending the use of cloth face coverings in public settings where social distancing is difficult to maintain. Cloth face coverings provide an extra layer to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling in the air and infecting other people. They can help prevent the virus spreading from people who may have the infection and do not know it from transmitting it to others.

Until we have an effective vaccine or medications to treat COVID-19, social distancing is a key tool we must use to prevent infection. Every phase that we enter will be based on an evaluation of the situation related to the virus transmission, infection rates in our community, hospitalizations and deaths, among other criteria.”
Q A
What can Las Vegas residents expect for any live events coming up throughout the year? We are not able to speculate. However, we will continue to promote social distancing, the use of face masks, as well as track cases and respond accordingly.
Q
We were in the top rankings for social distancing across the nation this month. Should we all continue our social distancing efforts even after Phase 3 and 4 are set in place? Until we have an effective vaccine or medications to treat COVID-19, social distancing is a key tool we must use to prevent infection. Every phase that we enter will be based on an evaluation of the situation related to the virus transmission, infection rates in our community, hospitalizations and deaths, among other criteria. Social distancing is an effective public health tool that has also been successful in preventing the spread of other infectious diseases such as influenza.
A
Q
Ever since the coronavirus landed in the US, people have compared it to the seasonal influenza, regarding the number of deaths it causes yearly. Although, COVID has caused the shutdown of the nation. How is COVID-19 different from “just another flu?” We know how influenza viruses work, and we have a vaccine and effective antiviral medications to fight the flu. This particular coronavirus is completely new, and when it presented itself, we had no experience with it. We had no way of knowing the severity of the illness, who would be more susceptible to it, how easily it spread from person to person, and, most importantly, how to manage and treat it. We now know that it is more infectious than the flu; it can be more severe, and its clinical presentation could be longer in duration. The severity of this disease, expressed in terms of hospitalizations, intensive care beds utilization, and mortality, especially in older adults and minority populations is higher than the flu. COVID-19 and its impacts are still being studied, but there is early evidence that it is associated with multiple clinical complications such as pulmonary embolisms, and reports of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children. The full scale and impact of this pandemic will not be known for quite some time. MV

BELIEVING YOU ARE WORTHY OF THE VERY BEST LIFE… “I am worthy of the very best in life, and I allow myself to receive it.”
I
live my life by the above affirmation, and experience has taught me that it’s true. With the right mindset, anything is possible. A simple decision to believe in ourselves can bring unlimited happiness and success. Conversely, if you do not accept that you “deserve” the best when incredible opportunity lands at your feet, you won’t know how to act. As an example, a friend of mine had a clear vision of the kind of guy and relationship she wanted. She was fortunate enough to meet a man that fit this vision, but her lack of self-worth sabotaged the relationship. He was everything she wanted, but when the universe handed her a perfect solution, she couldn’t convince herself she was worthy and ruined the relationship. Her mindset and flawed views on self-worth prevented her from living her best life. What belief is limiting you? Have you likely heard the phrase “money doesn’t grow on trees? I was repetitively told this phrase by my mother, but it instilled a core belief that I should continuously fear running out of resources. Over time I realized my fear of not having money contributed to worry and anxiety. Changing my mindset about money was an awakening. If you are emotionally triggered or consumed with worry about money, a change in your mindset can improve your relationship with money forever.
Remember: whatever your mind believes becomes your reality. You are worthy of the beauty this life has to offer, so let’s change your mindset, so you are receptive to a new and better reality. Let’s begin with small adjustments. Start with an affirmation and the way you speak to yourself. It takes practice, but once it becomes a habit, you will notice the universe shifts in your favor. Every morning I tell the universe, “I’m ready to receive my gifts today.” My positive mindset allows for magical things to happen to me. It could be as simple as a smile from someone or as extravagant as an up-
12
grade to my hotel room for free! My brain is filled with positive thoughts, and that’s why positive things happen.
thinking introduced by parents, friends, or former partners hold you back. You are worthy!
This mindset also predisposes me to pay it forward to others. When I check out at the grocery store, I smile and ask the cashier about their day. You’ll be surprised how far a smile can go and a thank you. Energy is everything, and you will receive back what you put out. The next time you’re at Starbucks, pay for the person behind you and see how it makes you feel. After, affirm to the universe that you are ready to receive all the magic available to you.
Again, let’s start small and pick an affirmation that resonates with you. Pinterest is an excellent starting point to select your affirmation. Make this positive thought your phone background, tape it to your mirror, put it beside your bedside, and say it every day. Once you accept the affirmation to be true, you’ll start to see it in your everyday life.
You are worthy of everything amazing this life has to offer you, but you need to start believing you are worthy. Don’t let a negative mindset from misguided advice, unnecessary expectations, or flawed
Everything begins with the belief you have in yourself. Don’t forget how worthy you are!!!! MV “Believe in yourself, your abilities, and your own potential. Never let self-doubt hold you captive. You are worthy of all that you dream of and hope for.” -Roy Bennett Story By: Jennifer Irene

HOW TO BURN STUBBORN BELLY FAT Let’s get bikini ready or something among those lines!
BURPEES
S
o many people go in the gym completely clueless on what to do. They will find something on Instagram and copy that workout, but is it really working what you want? Debatable! Here are some amazing workouts to burn that stubborn fat as well as isolate your abs because once that fat is gone, we want to make sure we can get our core exactly how we want. Right? LET’S BURN THAT FAT WITH: • • •
DUMBBELL SWINGS
MOUNTAIN CLIMBERS
Burpees Dumbbell swings Mountain climbers
I would recommend doing this right after doing 20 minutes interval cardio such as sprints, stairs, spin bike or arc master, whichever you have access to and is best for your body. If you have bad knees, sprints won’t be the best cardio for you so I would say arc master or elliptical.
CRUNCHES
SIDE CRUNCHES
Now, to really isolate and make those abs pop: • • •
Crunches Side crunches Planks
Doing this routine 2-3 days a week is completely fine. The way I would recommend: 20 minutes interval cardio, get your burpees, dumbbell swings and mountain climbers done. Then do the isolated movements. As far as reps, 20-30 is a sweet spot and repeat 2-3 times. You can get out and do these moves with this beautiful weather! Get busy on a hike, do about 20 minutes of cardio- then get those exercises in! MV Story By: Tana Ashlee

5 BENEFITS TO YOGA STRETCHES 2 If you’ve never tried yoga, I am sure you have heard that it is great for you and fosters many benefits to your overall health. From the evident benefits like improved flexibility, to building core strength and balance, yoga is a 5,000-year-old discipline used for much more than stretching out your body. Take a read of the benefits that yoga can provide for your health and wellness below! 1. IMPROVES YOUR FLEXIBILITY
2. IMPROVES YOUR BALANCE
As we age, our bodies tend to lose its flexibility, especially if you have a sedentary job or spend a lot of time sitting down. With daily implementation, yoga can actually aid in reversing this process. Stretching your body in new ways can help with you gain that flexibility back, while stretching your hamstrings, shoulders, legs, hips and, most importantly, your back. Keeping your spine flexible can also help to lessen back pain!
We all have the natural ability to balance ourselves. However, it all starts in your core. Using poses where you balance on one leg and engage your core are a great place to start!

3. BUILDS MUSCULAR STRENGTH Yoga is one of the best forms of body weight exercise. You may not feel like you are building muscle, however, the longer you hold a pose, you are strengthening that muscle or body part. Particularly with your core, poses such as the downward facing dog and the warrior pose require you to hold your body in that position for several breaths, in turn, building up your muscular strength. 4. INCREASES MUSCLE TONE AND DEFINITION
STANDING THIGH STRETCH
4
As you begin to gain strength, muscle tone and definition will follow. Yoga helps to shape long and lean out muscles in your legs, arms, back, and abdomen. Use poses for long breaths and concentrate on the muscle you are stretching. 5. SUPPORTS YOUR JOINTS Because the movements in yoga are very low impact, you will be able to use your joints throughout your session without causing any injuries. Plus, with daily implementation, you are strengthening the muscles surrounding your joints, in turn lessening the impact on your joints.

INVEST YOUR EMOTIONS WISELY
B
Wake Up, Don’t Make Up!
eing a caregiver to a senior you love can be challenging when it comes to personal boundaries - yours and theirs. At any given time we can over-step boundaries with that person and go into the “no go” zone, resulting in what feels like an emotional battle where neither is prepared to compromise because they each think they are right and the other is wrong. It’s not uncommon for the person being cared for to become stubborn and refuse sage advice while attempting to maintain their independence. This can leave us feeling exhausted, stressed, and fearful for their safety; but that can also lead us to attempt to control them - with the best of intentions - but it is still control. When we become emotionally invested in others to a degree that is not healthy for us, we the caregiver can allow ourselves to become ill from what often feels like no matter what we do, we cannot win. Setting healthy boundaries is necessary and can be done by a simple shift in your perspective about control and winning. Letting go of the emotions of control can be scary, however the senior you are caring for spent their whole life taking care of themselves and now must rely on you to assist them – not to control them; and this is not a one-wins, one-loses scenario. If we don’t want to change being the loving people that we are, we will only survive happily by developing healthy boundaries, and respecting when it’s time to jump in and take control or not. Allowing those who we have emotionally invested in to be stubborn and to sometimes feel as though they ‘win’ is “tough love” all over again – but in the long run, it will be the most rewarding. So, invest your emotions wisely. MV By Megan Mathis Nvseniorguide.com (702) 269-9290 mmathis4@cox.net

FINDING POWER IN PURPOSE It was July of 2008 and I was sitting at my desk, stuck in a mind-numbing job that I had to keep to afford the mortgage I shouldn’t have taken in the first place. I hadn’t heard from my husband, which was odd, and by late morning, I was starting to panic.
M
y brain was cycling through the worst possible scenarios (at least the worst scenarios I could imagine at that time). What if he had been in an accident? What if he was sick or… After another hour or so of my freak out, my phone finally rang. Running into the parking lot, I had no idea that with the next four words, the life I knew would officially be over. “I’m in big trouble,” my husband said. He’d been arrested for doing a very bad thing. Suffice it to say, he was fired from his teaching job within hours of his arrest. My computer was taken in as State’s evidence. News vans were waiting outside my home the next morning, and my home address and license plate number were published in the local paper. Moving from North Carolina to Las Vegas was the best decision I could’ve made. My dog Akasha and I went to live with my dad and stepmom and slowly, painfully, I began to rebuild my life.
There were days when the depression was so severe I couldn’t make it out of bed. Unemployed, divorced, bankrupt, and lonely… when I hit rock bottom, I was curled up in the fetal position on the bathroom floor, crying onto the tile. My stepmom found me, held out her hand, dragged me off the floor, and gave me the best life advice (and business advice) that anyone could give. “Go help someone else.” I began to volunteer with animal rescues, helping out at adoption events, putting on my own fundraising events, and eventually serving on the board and playing an integral role in Hearts Alive Village Las Vegas. The amazing part was that for every furry life I saved, they saved me right back. Animal rescue allowed me to find power in purpose. In the midst of this challenge, writing became a cathartic release. Taking a writing course at the community college, I began my first novel, a funny serial killer novel (yup, really). I wrote two more novels before deciding that I wasn’t ready to show
Do something for someone else.”
my work to the world… and I didn’t want to write anymore. It took about 5 years and a handful of crazy jobs to realize that just like animal rescue, sharing my story gave me purpose. I’m a firm believer that when you pass over a chasm of suckage in your life, it’s your job to hold out your hand and help someone else through theirs. I became a professional speaker and published my first nonfiction book, “Surviving to Thriving: How to Overcome Setbacks and Rock Your Life” to give people the tools to face their challenges and come out stronger. Then, I began teaching business owners and salespeople how sharing their story can be the most powerful marketing tool they have. Until that is, I discovered another one. My stepmom’s advice began ringing in my ears, “Do something for someone else,” and I began to teach businesses how they can do better when they do good in the community. MYBEAUTY & FITNESS
SUCCESSFUL MOTIVATION
“I love doing the hard things!” Said no one ever. We, as humans, naturally like to do the enjoyable things, the fun things and the easy things.
Y
es, the enjoyable things are more comfy and less challenging, but most of the time they aren’t very helpful in moving the needle forward if it has anything to do with bettering our lives physically or financially. Our return on investment is usually somewhere between zero and into the negatives. If your seeking success and results consider these ideas:
3.
The rest of the day is more enjoyable when you tackle the hard things first. When you get the hard thing off your plate it’s easier to enjoy the remainder of the day without any regret or anything looming over your head.
4.
It builds self-esteem and confidence. You’ll feel great about yourself and prove to yourself you are capable of success.
1.
5.
2.
The challenging things will always be the rewarding things. That will never ever change, so, you can either resist it or get on board with it. I encourage you to hop on board and let your success become a reality, not just a someday dream. Oh, and you’ll be happier, less stressed and enjoy life more fully! MV
Do the hard things when you have the most energy. For more people, that’s earlier in the day. Take action on the hard things when you’re fresh and more motivated. It only gets more challenging later in the day. You can spend more time on the hard thing. If you wait until later to do the hard thing, you will almost always run out of time.
Stop thinking about it so much. If you want to make taking action easier- try this: think less, do more. Our minds can be traps for keeping us in our safe comfort zone.

FEED YOUR CELLS
DR. GLEN COCHRANE | EAST DESERT INN WELLNESS Always a step ahead of the curve, East Desert Inn Wellness is implementing brand new services this year that are about to change the wellness arena. Head Physician and Chiropractor, Dr. Glen Cochrane is introducing his patients to new and progressive therapies, intended to help with Diabetes patients, chronic pain patients, and any patient looking for better health and wellness.
A
long with their innovative therapies, including stem cells and low-level laser therapy, they continue to be a cutting-edge resource for pain management and chiropractic patients. Dr. Cochrane has been practicing chiropractic care for over 23 years, and lives by the motto, “Fixing problems rather than patching.” Whether you are looking for pain relief from an accident or injury or are looking for overall improvement of your health and wellness, Dr. Cochrane can help you. Over the years of providing chiropractic care, Dr. Cochrane has learned and received certifications in new protocols to better treat his patients all over the valley. A few to name are Radial Pulse Waves which uses low acoustic pulse waves to treat chronic pain, and Stem Cells, which has helped treat pain with his very own parents and son. He is also months away from becoming a Master of Certified Impairment Chiropractor Evaluations, where he evaluates people’s level of permanent impairment. Out of only 2 other chiropractors in the nation with this qualification, Dr. Cochrane is on his way to a fellowship with the American College of Independent Medical Examiners. One of Dr. Cochrane’s therapies he has done at the clinic for some time is the use of radial pulse waves, which treats patients with chronic pain. Based from the Lithotripsy procedure used for breaking down kidney stones and gallstones, this machine can be turned down and utilized for creating microdamage on the pain area. This microdamage will essentially wake up your cells and will activate your very own stem cells to begin healing the
30
soft tissue. This therapy has been particularly helpful in treating chronic pain, acute and subacute injuries, sport injuries, personal injury case injuries, and much more. A brand-new therapy making its way to East Desert Inn Wellness this year is Diabetes Relief. Diabetes is a worldwide problem in adults and children, and whether it be Type 1 or Type 2, the treatments available for patients have become expensive and hard to acquire. One of the most innovative Diabetes treatments on the market today, the Diabetes Relief pump provides patients with the perfect amount of insulin, without the need for pricks and monitors. A completely automatic insulin pump, your body is fed with short pulses of insulin constantly, keeping your liver always in supply and copying the natural way your body produces insulin. Fixing a complex problem, Diabetes Relief has created and used these pumps in countries like Dubai and Turkey and have found incredible results. Not to mention, has the capability of saving the healthcare cost by billions of dollars, and is covered by most insurance providers.
Fixing problems rather than patching.” Whether you are looking for pain relief from an accident or injury or are looking for overall improvement of your health and wellness, Dr. Cochrane can help you.
In our bodies, the best thing we could do to prevent aging, deterioration, and decay (as bad as those sound) is by feeding our cells. What do our cells need? Insulin. This groundbreaking solution of Diabetes Relief has been shown to not only aid in Diabetes patients with insulin deficiencies, but also in Parkinson’s patients, Dementia and Amputees find healing and pain relief. When it comes down to your cells and nerve damage, it is because your cells aren’t being fed the nutrients it needs to continue function, and ends up causing inflammation, and eventually nerve damage. But when you completely eliminate inflammation from happening, your cells are active and work to your advantage, rather than to your dismay. Another ceiling-breaking therapy the center has incorporated is the use of Exosomes, already being completed by the Doctor on site at East Desert Inn Wellness. Exosomes are used for soft tissue repair, and can aid in cosmetics and anti-aging, sports and orthopedic injuries, and even ED. Given to patients through veins or injections into the treatment area, pain and inflammation have no place in these reinvented cells. These new therapies and treatments are the gateway to regeneration, rejuvenation and, at some point in the future, biological immortality. Dr. Cochrane is on his way to completing the full wellness package, a dream of his since he graduated chiropractic college to create a center that fixes problems in all areas of wellness. Although it has taken time, hard work, and perseverance, he has found the right people, the right therapies, and the right time to unleash these to his patients, in hopes of improving the health and wellness of patients everywhere. Continuing his mantra of always putting the patient first, Dr. Glen Cochrane is achieving his own goals and, in turn, the goals of his patients. Chiropractic care has truly met its match with East Desert Inn Wellness, and it’s finest, Dr. Glen Cochrane. Dr. Cochrane is partnering with David Doerge of Health Wellness Scientific LLC, for Diabetes Relief. THE A.R.T. OF FIXING BACKS MEET DR. JON PETRICK There is no stopping a person with passion and drive. Luckily for the Vegas community and patients of Dr. Jon Petrick, his passion for helping others seems to never run out.
P
racticing Chiropractic for over 20 years, Dr. Petrick has become one of the most sought-after pain management specialists in North America. An accomplished athlete turned chiropractor is now the Clinical Director and CEO of Las Vegas Pain Relief Centers and is committed about being the best possible physician and provider of healthcare for his patients.

Today, he is licensed and experienced in a myriad of techniques and skills, including Nitric Oxide Release (NOR), Manipulation Under Anesthesia (MUA), Cranial Facial Release (CFR), and is the only provider on the west coast to offer the Stress Relief Method (SRM).
Dr. Petrick found his way into the industry under unfortunate circumstances. In his early twenties, Petrick was involved in a car accident where he suffered nerve damage on one side of his body and a considerable amount of lacerations and bruised bones. Where the damage really settled was during his recovery process. Petrick had been to doctor after doctor, taken test after test, and the general consensus showed that nerve damage is irreversible, and they couldn’t really do anything. Chronic pain and physical weakness set in, which lasted about eight months until he was referred to a pain management physician named Dr. James Atkins.
In 2000, Dr. Petrick relocated to Las Vegas to open his very own practice, Las Vegas Pain Relief Center, a multifaceted facility for a wide variety of pain management services. Today, Dr. Petrick has treated thousands of professional athletes and Las Vegas residents. Quickly recognized for his skills and talent, he began working with the UFC and was the on-screen physician for each season of the FOX Sports show, “The Ultimate Fighter,” as well as working with the Toronto Blue Jays and Las Vegas 51’s team for over seven years. All the while, teaching and training physicians Active Release, being one of only 175 trained to do so.
Dr. James Atkins is trained in the Active Release Technique (ART), at that time one of the only physicians in the state that incorporated this into their practice. Petrick began an ART program and was back to almost full functionality within nine weeks. Continuing the program for a further ten months, he was back to full function, and gained a friend and mentor in Dr. Atkins. After his treatments, Dr. Atkins encouraged him to pursue chiropractic and Petrick began his healthcare career. Always eager for more knowledge, Dr. Petrick has never stopped learning after graduating from Cleveland Chiropractic College. He continued taking courses and working alongside mentors in various techniques, including, the most im-

Throughout the years, Dr. Petrick has introduced multiple cutting-edge services to encompass a wider range of therapies for his patients. He recently implemented Telemedicine into his practice and explains that this effective alternative to traditional sick-care is extremely beneficial to the under-insured or un-insured. He also is in the process of adding PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), stem cell and exosome injections and Sexual Rejuvenation treatments available to his patients. When Dr. Petrick isn’t changing lives for patients, his passions flood into the community through his non-profit, the KIS-MIF Foundation, which stands for Keep It Simple-Make it Fun. KIS-MIF is a program for disabled individuals to, as the name implies, get out into nature and have fun. This September, the foundation
is looking forward to their annual Golf Tournament at Revere Golf Club, to raise money for affordable sport chairs for disabled individuals to play sports. kismiflv. com Dr. Jon Petrick is a multi-talented, passionate doctor and, not to mention, best-selling author of self-sustainable living book Get Off Your Path, which you can find on Amazon. He is also the co-host of wildly successful TruthTalks.com national podcast. Dr. Petrick has interviewed and chronicled hundreds of amazing stories of individuals defying the odds and turning “lemons in to Lemichello: as Dr. Petrick likes to say. Although Dr. Petrick has been through trauma in his life, like any great leader, he always gets back up and keeps going. He said, “It is NOT winning and losing, it is about winning and learning and not being afraid to take a chance, because the loss is not trying.” His continued achievements prove that passion will drive you farther than you ever thought possible. MYVEGAS TOP 10 CHIROPRACTORS
PUTTING THE LOVE BACK INTO YOUR SPINE. ®
Finding the right chiropractor that fits your needs and wants can be a challenge, especially after an auto collision or sports injury.
M
any chiropractors will - in certain words - stick to the script when it comes to chiropractic care. Stepping out of that comfort zone is Dr. Daniel Yen, owner and Chiropractor of Yen Chiropractic. Hailing from Pasadena, California, Dr. Yen has been practicing since 2005, continuously learning and passionate about teaching patients how they can achieve wellness without medication. Before he decided to be a chiropractor, Dr. Daniel Yen had an audiovisual and technical background in college, which included setting up stages, lighting, and sound. He found himself always having headaches and shoulder pain that would require medication, particularly Excedrin® (used for Migraines). At a health fair, he happened to run into a Chiropractor, who encouraged him to begin getting routine adjustments. He would ask the doctor questions, with it being strange and amazing to him that something as simple as an adjustment could relieve his headaches and help him function better. MEET COVER BRIDE TRINAMARIE SHAW TrinaMarie (Phinizy) Shaw, a lover of Christ + wife + mom, first. You can catch her on her new podcast, Better Homes & Therapy, where she believes in better homes and the need for some type of therapy to remain sane in today’s world! he is also the co-founder of B&T Capture. She has a passion for increasing healthy habits (emotionally + mentally + physically). TrinaMarie is a Cali girl with a Southern Spirit. Currently, she lives in Las Vegas. She has many fond childhood summer memories enjoying her family in South Carolina + being taught southern hospitality. TrinaMarie has dealt with many challenges that could have allowed her to be or remain just another statistic. When she was a little girl, her mom was diagnosed with a mental illness, which landed her and her brother in foster care twice. Thankfully, her dad was awarded custody. Being abused physically, mentally, and emotionally by more than one person at a young age, she attributes her faith in God in being able to defy the odds and negative beliefs from others. Sadly, she also remembers being told by someone she thought cared about her that she would just end up pregnant at a young age. Although she had her son at age 19, her profound trust in God and her son are two of her biggest blessings and motivators. TrinaMarie arrived in Vegas with just a suitcase, a mindset of having a better life, and a determination to prove people wrong. She earned her bachelor’s degree from UNLV. Confused on the type of master’s degree to earn, with trust in God she earned a degree in Counseling & Human Services. She has a big heart with the mission in life is to inspire people through life-style, positive vibes, and changing how we view and support mental health/illnesses. After working in HR and management for 15 years, in 2018 TrinaMarie became a full-time licensed real estate agent. Now she can dedicate time to this important cause. TrinaMarie is Mrs. Blue Diamond

THE THREE AMIGOS MAKE MUSIC Your brain can recognize a good song within the first thirty seconds. Within the first thirty seconds of meeting this melody-making team, composed of Keith Galliher Jr., Clarence Collins, and Pat Thrall, you’ll immediately be swept by their infectious humor, mind blowing stories and incredible talent for creating real music.

inger-songwriter and personal injury lawyer of over 45 years with a striking talent in music, Keith Galliher Jr. has been creating with this team for over 10 years, and have created and released 9 albums with over 70 tracks. It all started in 2008, when Keith wanted to do something special for his wife, Linda, for Christmas. He knew that perfume and jewelry were getting a bit repetitive, even for him, so he had to do something special. He called up a very close friend, music producer and Rock N’ Roll Hall of Famer, Clarence Collins, to help him record a song. Jokingly, Keith says, “After Clarence stopped laughing, he said well

okay, okay and we went into the studio and recorded Eric Clapton’s - Wonderful Tonight.” Suffice to say, although he had not even had experience singing in the shower, Keith absolutely blew Clarence away. They went on to record his first album under Imperial Plus Records, Love Songs for Linda. Clarence has been singing since he was 8 years old, and always dreamed of having a hit record when he was younger. He would tell his father time and time again, “I want me a hit record!” His father would retort, “Don’t talk about it, do it!” And he didn’t quit until he did. Clarence was the founding member of the group Little Anthony and the Imperials, and throughout
the years of touring and performing, they had much more than just one hit record. With chart-topping songs like “Tears on My Pillow” and “Shimmy Shimmy Ko-Ko Bop,” Clarence Collins and the Imperials

When this dream team first met each other, music wasn’t even on the radar quite yet. Clarence met Keith years before they began creating together, when Keith helped Clarence begin his corporation. They stayed friends for many years before Keith gave him that very special phone call about Linda’s Christmas present. When they began recording music for Keith’s first album, their studio of choice was the Studio at the Palms, where they met Zoe Thrall, it’s Director. Becoming quick friends, as their charm and humor go along with them everywhere they go, Zoe introduced the men to her husband, Pat Thrall.
Pat Thrall is a legend in the rock n’ roll world, playing guitar for countless bands and touring for over 25 years of his life. Pat Thrall is a legend in the rock n’ roll world, playing guitar for countless bands and touring for over 25 years of his life. He began playing the drums at the age of 11, and guitar a few years later, to already be in a band by the time he was 15 years old. Touring since 1972 with bands and artists like Asia and Meat Loaf, and even having a guitar duel with the guitar god Eric Clapton, this guitar player lives for music. Through the last 15 years, he gets his kicks and makes his living by arranging and engineering music, for artists like Celine Dion, Tina Turner, Beyoncé, and Justin Bieber, just to name a few. As Keith and Clarence were already on the prowl for a new arranger, this was a match made in heaven. Keith, Pat, and Clarence started with covers for the first few albums, and Keith loved them all, but eventually was eager to produce something that nobody has heard before. Clar-
ence had an old CD filled with songs that were meant for the Imperials to record, written by Teddy Randazzo, that had never seen the light of day. It was filled with 16 songs that were music to Keith’s ears. Keith got to the last song on the album and fell in love with “A Song Without An End,” which would become a single on his first album, Love Longs for Linda, and later on the complete Teddy album, called Teddy’s Songs. This song is also the subject of a duet with Keith and the deceased Teddy, singing posthumously.
When asked how their music process works, it is similar to typical artists who’ve done this for years. When asked how their music process works, it is similar to typical artists who’ve done this for years. Clarence will come up with a melody in his head, at any time of the day, but most likely the middle of the night, and record it into his phone. Then sends the recording to Pat, who creates the arrangement. Keith, who is always writing lyrics in his spare time, will then make the lyrics match the arrangement, and they have themselves a song. Passionate about getting it created, they don’t like to waste any time and record as soon as they have everything dialed in. What really sets Keith apart from the rest is his ability to tap into just about every genre. Not having restrictions to just one genre allows them to have much more creativity in the arranging and overall creation of each one. Keith says, “Each album is different, and each song is completely different, but we like it that way… makes the whole process more creative for all of us.” Not to mention, if they have a song where they need a great keyboard or harmonica player, they can call upon friends in the industry to join in on a song. They’ve even had Frankie Moreno, famous pianist and performer on the LV
Keith is just as passionate about his law practice as he is about music, what keeps him going is being able to create and be creative, and music allows him to do that.
Keep an eye out for Keith’s 10th album, Hodge Podge 3, being released soon and found on most streaming websites! Strip, come and play harmonica on their song, “High Steppin’ Linda.” Since 2008, Keith has lived and breathed music. Soon after Clarence and Keith recorded Wonderful Tonight, Clarence asked him to be the co-owner of Imperial Plus Records with him. Together they own Imperial Plus Records, the home for Keith Galliher Jr. Music. Along with their joy in music, they also share a radio show that airs once a week, called Two Paths. One week is MusicPath, where they discuss music and you might be able to catch them singing or stirring up a Music Mystery Challenge, and the next week is LawPath, where Keith talks about his vast knowledge of the law. Within the first thirty seconds of any of Keith’s number of songs, you will instantly hear the amount of work, creativity, and passion put into each one. Although Keith is just as passionate about his law practice as he is about music, what keeps him going is being able to create and be creative, and music allows him to do that. Winner of 75 International music awards, in genres from Rock, Pop, Jazz, Reggae, Soul, Electronica Dance, Rockabilly, Christian Gospel, and the list goes on and on. Keith emphasizes that he wouldn’t be anything without Clarence and Pat, and knows that he’s truly found his music dream team. They all love what they do, and it shows in each note. After feeling as if all hope was lost, Austrailian patient Herschel Aronstan utilized the Bregman Foot-Ankle & Nerve Center’s telemedicine platform to remotely consult with Dr. Bregman prior to deciding to fly to the United States as a last result to solve a condition he’s suffered with for over 30 years.
LAST HOPE; OR SUICIDE A trans-continental story of finding relief, when all hope was lost. Just before the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, Dr. Peter Bregman met Mr. Herschel Aronstan via a telemedicine consultation. Originally from South Africa, he has been living in Australia with his family for many years. Mr. Aronstan discovered Dr. Bregman in a Facebook group for individuals with restless leg syndrome and neuropathy. Having been under the care of his primary medical physician and a neurologist for nearly 20 years, his treatment previously consisted of being prescribed medications that have resulted in horrible side effects. He decided it was time for an additional opinion. Restless leg syndrome is a condition characterized by a irresistible urge to move the legs typically due to uncomfortable sensation. Many different symptoms can arise such as feeling the need to move, or shake their legs, otherwise they may build up a significant amount of anxiety and prevent sleep. Patients have noted the condition as life-altering; very often they are prescribed drugs to help with anxiety and depression with known negative side effects and addictive properties.
52
Mr. Aronstan decided he was going to visit Dr. Bregman in hopes that he would receive the treatment and resolution he’s long awaited. With an upcoming trip to the United States to visit another doctor, he decided to see Dr.Bregman instead. Mr. Aronstan shared his story of suffering for 30 years, and only able to sleep a few hours each night. Exhausting all options, and against his neurologist’s suggestion that visiting Dr. Bregman would be a waste of time, he became a patient and began the not so long road to recovery. After a thorough evaluation, and a non-invasive procedure of a peripheral nerve stimulator, Dr. Bregman performed multiple nerve decompression surgery in both legs, including the common fibular nerve and the superficial fibular nerve. This 2 1/2 hour procedure is very similar to surgery performed in carpal tunnel cases, where the tissues that are impinging the nerves are carefully cut away to relieve pressure on the nerve(s). Dr. Bregman was aware of the theory that restless leg syndrome may have a vascular component involved, and by performing these decompression procedures the blood flow to the tissues increases substantially. A few days post op following the surgery, Herschel came to se Dr. Bregman with a smile and tears in his eyes. This is when he informed Dr. Bregman that had

the surgery not provided relief, he would have committed suicide, and almost did previously. After returning to Australia, Herschel has kept in touch with Dr. Bregman. He’s now sleeping at least 6 hours per night, and says he is cured of this horrible disease called RLS. He says it stands for Really Life Sucks. He even felt so moved by the experience and angered by his neurologist that suggested he should not visit Dr. Bregman, he emailed him telling the neurologist that had he listened, he would’ve been miserable for the rest of his life, or worse. Not only has Dr. Bregman changed the course of Herschel’s life, but his family’s as well. He has invited Dr. Bregman to come to Australia, anytime.

His passion for patient’s with neuropathy are reflective in his work, patient testimonials, and published articles in peer reviewed journals. He is also involved in teaching other surgeons from all around the world in this area of expertise. Please visit www.bregmanfance.com or call +1 (702)-703-2526 if you or someone you love needs help.

Will Roundtree has put his permanent stamp on the world. Not only has he been formidable in business, but he is passionate about working in the community to, positively, affect change. Will has been the CEO of We Management Services since 2014, a company in which he founded. In this role, he has built a Super Team which has acquired over 300 million dollars for 1500 small to medium sized businesses. He has garnered recognition for this feat, as he did it in only three years. After being on the financial space for over ten years, Will has begun to widen his arc of success by adding author credit strategist, mentor, educator, motivational speaker, financial strategist, TedX speaker and community leader to his ever-growing repertoire.
Will’s first book, Credit is King, was a tremendous success. So much so that he took a stab at it, again, to become a two-time author with his new release, Fulltime CEO. In this book, he gives you the unglamorous peek into being a CEO, and he provides solutions to the behind-the-scene problems that arise during the journey as a CEO. In addition to these accolades, Will has been everpresent in the community, working as a mentor to the youth. He founded a series of TALKS called 50 Men. With this series, Will has been able to go into neighborhoods and give free seminars to people with whom financial information would not, normally, be accessible. He educates on finance, generation wealth and becoming entrepreneurs. He makes it accessible by holding the seminars in barbershops. 50 Women will soon follow. Will’s new venture, The Wealth Files, is a podcast focused and dedicated to all aspects of entrepreneurship. It can be listened to on all major platforms. Follow Us on IG: @mrwillroundtree

BUILDING AN EMPIRE Empire Solar Group is a fast-growing solar company, outfitting homes with solar technology across the country. Built on the idea that the world is a better place when people are empowered to create the lives they want, Empire makes sure empowerment is at the heart of everything they do.
I
n essence, Empire Solar Group empowers people to own their power instead of renting it from the power company at an escalating price every year. They help homeowners understand the value of energy independence and help them take advantage of the savings—including the Federal Solar Tax Credit, which can compensate homeowners for up to 26% of their system cost. The group is unwavering on its number one priority: providing every homeowner a five-star experience through quality, integrity, and total customer satisfaction.
It all began with founders Abby Buchmiller and Amanda Roseburg, who are two sides of the same coin. Abby, CEO, manages relationships and business functions, while Amanda, CFO, focuses on finances and operations. They’re also the oldest and youngest of seven siblings in a family where entrepreneurship reigned supreme. The family had built an empire of its own in electrical contracting, several years ago. The two sisters had helped lead and grow the family-owned electric company for over 15 years, taking it from 900K in annual sales to over 12M in 2014. Around 2016 when oil prices dropped, the two women began looking into cleaner, more sustainable energy options. They found that solar was not only better for the environment, but it was an opportunity for major savings and added home equity for homeowners. Abby and Amanda decided to pivot away from the family business and start something brand new. They both agreed that if they were to build a business, it had to be done right, and they needed to learn the details—in and out—for themselves. They teamed up with Abby’s husband Steve, an electrician, to begin building pricing packages, researching hardware and software, and learning the right way to install and operate solar. Soon, the three began developing a business plan. A few things were decided right away: The first was that although not required by law in every state, the team felt strongly that each job would
80
be performed by a licensed electrician and that at least one master electrician would be hired in every state. They didn’t believe a job could be done to meet their high standards without it, and so it became table stakes for the new company; The second was that every part of their business would align with and reinforce their personal values, including quality, integrity, and transparency. And finally, they had decided they wanted to take a dealer-model approach to their business. This would allow dealers to plug straight into their digital platform and monitor the job from start to finish. This was especially attractive because it would empower businesses with the ability to build an empire of their own. This final point was also the inspiration for the name of their new business.
We treat relationships as a top priority of the business.”
Since that fateful year, Empire Solar has expanded to eleven states, and is growing every day. In 2017, they started as a $3M company. That number has skyrocketed and on pace to be a 100M company by end of 2020”. Over 100 dealers operate on their platform, allowing those partners to reach their dreams and build empires of their own through or as Empire Solar. But it’s not all numbers and stats, arguably the most important thing to Abby and Amanda are the relationships they’ve built along the way. As they put it, “We treat relationships as a top priority of the business. Our employees are like family, our partnerships are our lifeblood. This has been our unexpected key for success.” MV Story By: Abby Amanda

TOP 4 FACTORS THAT AFFECT YOUR HOME’S SALE Simply stated, in order to get the most potential value out of your home sale, it must stand out amongst the competition. Days on the market matter. The faster your home sells, the higher the price will be.
H
igh days on the market typically will result in lower others. It’s important to consider these 4 factors when selling your home to assure it will sell quickly for its maximum potential value.
1.
Condition: A poorly maintained home, or outdated home will certainly take a hit on value. Buyers do not want to pay top dollar for a home that needs renovations. Consult with your Realtor on items of importance to improve its condition prior to listing.
2.
Price: Overpricing will actually scare buyers away. The strategy of “leaving room to negotiate” can result in longer days on the market, and lowball others. Try to keep the price negotiable but not too high.
3.
Access: Buyers usually have a window of time to view multiple houses, if your home is not easily accessible it will often get moved to the bottom of the list or passed up completely.
4.
Marketing: A home that is poorly marketed will take longer to sell, and often will sell below market value. A great marketing plan and stunning online presence will ensure your homes visibility and traffic, which can result in more showings and higher others. When all other factors are paired with a dynamite marketing strategy, you can assure a quick sale at maximum potential value. MV Story By: Trish Williams

FUTURE OF LAS VEGAS WHAT TO EXPECT
We are beginning a new decade. Las Vegas’ future is so bright, we’re going to need shades! It’s cheesy, but true! A 23 billion-dollar face lift is currently on its way, and it will change the face of Las Vegas faster than you can imagine.
L
as Vegas has seen the cultivation of 25 billion-dollar investments before, yes .... but never in such a short period of time. The upcoming changes are necessary to catch up with the ever faster heartbeat of mama Vegas. Twenty-three billion dollars is currently being invested into construction, renovation and expansion. It seems to be a real-life example of the real estate advice, “If you see two cranes in town, buy a house; and if you see 15 cranes, get into business right away.” Las Vegas’ economy is still going through rapid growth with an average of 132 people moving into the city every day. Nevada is currently ranked 4th in the nation for employment growth, with a growth rate
of 2.62%. Additionally, Nevada is ranked 3rd in the country for the states with the fastest growing Personal Income. The enchanting energy of Las Vegas now draws 42 million visitors over the course of a year, and the current 149,000 hotel rooms are not enough! The local convention calendar for the upcoming years is becoming so crowded that the Convention Center is adding 1.4 million more square feet to accommodate these needs. New investments aren’t the only efforts influencing the city’s transformation. Older companies are taking initiatives to remodel and expand their existing properties as well. Wynn is currently working on a new “Wynn West” which will add more hotel rooms and a new convention center. There is a strong lineup of new hotels opening in town aimed at accommodating the influx of visitors. New resorts are also on the way with costs high into the billions. There is ResortsWorld Las Vegas, leading with an investment of $4.3 billion; following that is The Drew, with $3.1 billion; then there is the Jackie Robinson Arena and Hotel Project, for $2.7 billion; Allegiant (Raiders) Stadium for $1.97 billion, and lastly, the Las Vegas Convention Center, for $1.4 billion.
Twenty-three billion dollars is currently being invested into construction, renovation and expansion. It seems to be a real-life example of the real estate advice, “If you see two cranes in town, buy a house; and if you see 15 cranes, get into business right away.”
This city is exploding with growth in every direction! On the south side of town, there is a 21-story “Dream Hotel” currently breaking ground near the «Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign». Downtown will also be seeing some changes as there has been a $45 million investment in The Downtown Grand Hotel which should be opening during the middle of 2020. All this healthy economy growth is of course followed by a general price growth. We can see prices continuing to grow regardless of sector. According to SalesTraq, MGM Signature is the leader of maximum amount of units sold in 2019 – 72; and right behind it is Panorama, with 66 sold units; then Turnberry Place, with 60 units; Turnberry Towers, 47; One Las Vegas, 45; Palms Place, 44; Allure, 37; and Veer Towers, with 45. The Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas, which replaced the former Mandarin Oriental, is leading the High Rise market with the highest average sale price per square foot, followed by Vdara Condo Hotel and Palms Place, then Veer Towers, then Park Towers, and then Trump Hotel. The High Rise market is lacking new inventory, so the prices continue to climb up. The arrival of the Raiders is still fueling the market as Las Vegas is on its way to becoming a sports center. We still have low interest rates, which are appealing for buyers. Even though the political atmosphere isn’t clear, if you simply follow the money, you’ll see it flowing to Vegas, so you’ll know when and where is the right time to invest: it’s now, and it’s in Vegas. LOOKING BACK ON WOMEN’S SUFFRAGE Hard to believe 100 years ago women were unable to vote in America. The struggle of Women’s Suffrage started nearly 200 years ago. Pioneer women of the 1820’s and 1830’s had long fought for this inalienable right ensured to their husbands and sons. The Seneca Falls Convention of 1848 was held at the Wesleyan Chapel in New York.
S
eventy-two years later women finally got the right to vote. Five dynamic women were the first organizers of what became the Women’s Suffrage Movement. Elizabeth Stanton, Lucretia Mott, Mary M’Clintock, Martha Wright and Jane Hunt were women pioneers promoting this crusade in the 1800’s and they deserve their place in history. Nevada has some very special leaders committed to supporting women. Governor Steve Sisolak and First Lady Kathy Sisolak did a reenactment for celebrating Nevada Women’s Nineteenth Amendment Anniversary Day with a Proclamation on February 7, 2020. Governor Sisolak even uses the infamous desk where Governor Boyle signed the resolution on February 7, 1920 to ratify the Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Back in 1920, the women rode the train to gather in Carson City for that historic day with Governor Boyle. That was the day that brought all women the promise of a better future for their daughter’s, their daughter’s daughters and great granddaughters. The Nevada Legislature chose an accomplished leader in 2007 when Assemblywoman Barbara Buckley became the first female Speaker. While Buckley was an exceptional Speaker, she has also helped countless individuals with legal issues as the executive director of Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada. Barbara shared the importance of voting rights. “In 100 years, Nevada went from the 28th State to ratify the Nineteenth Amendment to the first State with a majority-woman legislature, congressional delegation, and supreme court. As we look back on this milestone, it is important to remember how hard-fought the victory was. It took decades of protests, arrests, and political struggle to accomplish. It took the bravery of many to stand up for what is right. And the vestiges of inequality still re-

quire the help and mentorship of so many to reach out to the next generation - to both educate them about the struggle and to teach them how to become leaders of tomorrow.” On February 7, 2020, former Assemblywoman, Senator and now Secretary of State, Barbara Cegaske celebrated this special occasion with the Governor, First Lady, Lt. Governor Kate Marshall, Speaker of the House Jason Frierson, Assemblywoman Maggie Carlton and other notable Nevadans. Cegaske dressed for the occasion with 1920’s attire for the reenactment photograph. The Secretary is head of the Election Division and the record keeper of the state. Cegaske understands the importance of voting and voting rights. “Voting is both a privilege and a responsibility that all citizens must take seriously. I am fortunate to have always lived in a time when women have been afforded the opportunity to vote.
To mark 100 years of Women’s Suffrage while serving as Nevada’s third female Secretary of State will be a special honor for me and I am extremely proud to join women across the country in celebrating this important milestone in 2020.” Molly Walt of the Nevada Commission for Women has been involved in the celebration of this Movement. “Suffrage Specialty License Plates can be purchased at DMV. May 2nd, A Salute to Women’s Suffrage Parade will be held in Henderson, NV. Nevada State Railroad will re-create the Suffrage Train offering rides all day on August 15th. Nevada Day Parade will have a special float this year, Women’s Suffrage.” MV For more information: https://nv19thamendmentcentennial.com/

iting a study that looked at a survey of 800 U.S. adults, the Cleveland Clinic learned politics may interfere with emotional stability - even your physical health. “It puts a strain on relationships and it puts a strain on the individual,” said Cleveland Clinic’s Joseph Rock, PsyD, who did not take part in the study. “A lot of people are saying that they find politics to be a significant source of stress; that it’s affecting their sleep, it’s affecting their relationships, and it’s affecting their family life,” continued Dr. Rock. The study, which can be found in PLOS ONE, found as many as 30 percent of the people surveyed said politics triggered feelings of anger, frustration, hate, guilt or led them to make comments they later regretted. In fact, according to a CNBC report, 60% of employees say discussing politics at work is unacceptable yet 57% do it anyway! Here’s how to avoid potential decision distress: “You need to pay attention to how you’re feeling, not just what you’re thinking,” said Dr. Rock. “When it becomes a compulsion, when you feel like you have to do it, when you feel like you don’t have a choice, you’ve got to take a step back,” said Dr. Rock. MYBUSINESS
NEGOTIATING SALARY Whether you are looking for another job or are up for a promotion, the first thing that probably comes to your mind is money. “How much are you paying me?” is one of the first questions I wanted to ask when job offers were sent my way; however, I would recommend bringing up the subject only when it is clearly time to do so, and only if prepared with a proper strategy.
A
s a Student Affairs Program Manager for The International School of Hospitality (TISOH), I often get asked by students about the right time to mention salary and compensation, and what is the best way to get the salary that you desire. Below are a few tried and true techniques you can use when it comes time to negotiate salary: LET THE EMPLOYER TO MAKE THE OFFER Wait for your interviewer to initiate the conversation on salary. Once the discussion does come around to compensation, begin by discussing how your skills and
experience will benefit the employer … and their bottom line. SCOPE OUT THE COMPETITION Find out how much competitors pay for similar job positions and responsibilities. Salary research mostly takes place on the internet; develop at least an idea of what to expect when it comes to being fairly compensated for your services by looking at several different organizations. And remember … the internet isn’t always correct, so expect some variation. PROVIDE A RANGE OF PAY Should the employer inquire about your desired salary, provide them a range
rather than a fixed number. This strategy gives the employer some flexibility to decide on your rate of pay. Most employers will initially propose a wage at the low end of the salary range, but you will have provided them clear limits on your expected compensation, and on the scope of your negotiation. DEMONSTRATE YOUR VALUE Most employers don’t like to see a list of restrictions, or worse yet, an ultimatum in terms of compensation. Instead of making the negotiation completely about money, attempt to prove the unique value proposition you bring by way of your hiring. The employer wants you to constantly deliver your very best and at the same time ensure that they are getting sufficient return on their investment in you. Convince them that your salary is just that, an investment in the success of the organization. COUNTEROFFER WISELY, NOT FREQUENTLY I strongly advise all of my students to make only one counteroffer. Back and forth negotiations will annoy the employer and may result in revocation of the job offer. Make sure your counteroffer is within reason and justify once again your value to the organization. SUCCESS SECRET OF THE BUSINESS ELITE Tony Robbins recently celebrated his 60th birthday with a benefit that raised $18M for Operation Underground Railroad, an organization that helps rescue children from sex trafficking.
H
elping people is in Tony’s DNA. So, when I mentioned I wanted to share one of his success secrets with MYVEGAS readers, he was all for it! Each morning he dedicates 10-15 minutes to an activity he calls Priming. While Tony’s a proponent of meditation, Priming has a very different outcome. “When I wake up, I want to get my head right and get myself primed for my day. Priming puts me in a state where my mind and body can respond accordingly.” Priming has three sections and is done eyes closed, in a seated position - chair, edge of your bed, or cross legged on the floor. Keep good posture and sit tall. BREATH Raise your hands up over your head as you inhale through your mouth. Blow the breath out with force as you bring your arms down, imitating goal posts until your elbows are near your waist. Repeat 30 times, counting your exhales. Quick, like a car blinker. After 30 reps, place your hands on your knees with your palms facing up and focus on your body, paying attention to any sensations. Tingling and twitches are common. Sometimes I even feel discomfort or tension in my back, which normally dissipates before I finish.
“
Think of an experience in your life that you’re grateful for. It can be recent or from childhood.”
After 60 seconds of body awareness, repeat the entire cycle until you’ve completed three sets. GRATITUDE Think of an experience in your life that you’re grateful for. It can be recent or from childhood. Use your memory and imagination to remember that event as vividly as possible, mentally transporting yourself to that experience. Visualize it, until your memory is so clear you feel immersed in it. Be there, see what you saw, feel what you felt until you feel the gratitude rising in you. The goal is to feel it, not just think it. While it is not always easy to gage time doing this, you’ll wanting spend about 60 seconds feeling grateful. Repeat this process two more times choosing different experiences to get the feelings of gratitude flowing. I typically select a very simple experience for one of them, like sitting with my dog or observing something beautiful in na-
ture. It helps me remember that it doesn’t always take something monumental for me to feel grateful. Again, the goal is to really put yourself into the experience and FEEL the gratitude. GOALS The third, and final section is about priming your mindset for your day ahead and your future. Think of a goal, or something you’d like to accomplish and imagine yourself having already accomplished it. Again, use your imagination to picture yourself having, doing or being, whatever it is that you want. Make it vivid and as real as you can imagine it. Allow yourself to FEEL how you would feel standing in that place of accomplishment. Are you celebrating? Is there anyone else there? Spend about a minute experiencing it mentally. When you’ve repeated this for two more goals, open your eyes and go about your day. PRIMING RECAP • Breath - 30 breaths and 1 minute of body awareness (3 sets) • Gratitude - 3 past experiences, one at a time, that you FEEL grateful for • Goals - Imagine having accomplished 3 goals, one at a time Priming not only makes you better able to handle anything your day holds, but I think you’ll find that things in your life begin to line up for you. When you and your life circumstances begin working together, success is imminent! MV

BLACKOUT DINING IN THE DARK You’ve heard of Dining in the Dark, sure, but have you experienced all that the darkness can offer for your next meal? If you’ve always wanted to try it or have heard about it from friends, this is the sign that it’s time to give it a shot!
K
nown for its outlandish setting, you’ll be taken into the darkness (for real this time) at BLACKOUT Dining in the Dark, a complete black-out dining experience located on Flamingo Rd near the Rio Hotel and Casino. Exactly as it seems, you dine in the dark, and as much to many’s amazement, you’ll be surprised what you’re capable of without sight. When you first arrive at BLACKOUT Dining in the Dark, the butterflies start settling in. You realize that you’re about to not be able to see anything, and I do mean anything. You start all the questions in your head, or begin to ask the front desk members that will answer any and all questions, like how will I be able to move my fork? Take a drink? Not spill anything? Don’t worry, everyone thinks these things, until your senses begin changing before you even know it. You are given a key to a locker, where you can place all your belongings, especially any-
thing that glows. Then, you are ready for the dark. When you’re first taken back into their non-lit dining room, you are taken to your seat by your very helpful waiter. He is somewhat like a guide throughout the experience, and keeps you laughing and having fun if you begin to get anxious. It is completely normal, but I personally just sat back and tried to take in the sensory experience as much as I could. My own personal little tip is to go with someone that you love to talk to. It will make the whole experience more enjoyable and comfortable, and you can talk out things that could never see the light! (Yes, pun intended.) Also, the only thing you can see in the room is the red light on the waiter’s night vision goggles, which kept me at ease the whole time, almost knowing exactly where to look when we talked to him!
Featuring an all vegetarian five-course meal, the menu was decadence. They change their menu every 6 months, so you can go back again and have a whole new experience. Although i can’t share too much because the menu is kept top secret, i will say i enjoyed every single plate set before me. Each with its own set of spices and flavorings, each course was like experiencing a new dish you can’t wait to have again. It is also fun to be able to talk out what the flavors are in each dish and recognize what you’re tasting, as the only assistance they give to each dish is the shape of the food and where the plate is on the table. Your taste sense is extremely heightened through this whole experience, and will make you feel like an expert food critic by the time you’re full. I also recommend going on an almost empty stomach, mainly because you begin to get full pretty quickly because everything is so delicious. Definitely grab a wine or mixed drink to go along with the food, as they formulate their drinks to go perfectly with the food served, plus it can definitely calm the nerves if you’re anxious. All in all, this is something that I truly believe everyone should try at least once in their life. You never know what you can discover about food, about yourself, or about who you took to this experience, in the dark. I still can’t believe that I was able to eat normally and drink my water like a pro, and you’ll be just as surprised with yourself when you take in all that the dark has to offer! CHEF SPOTLIGHT: ARACELI PEREZ When it comes to food, Araceli Perez’s passion has always been rooted in family and community. Born and raised in Boyle Heights, California, Araceli’s skills were tempered in the kitchen with the support of her mother who taught her the basics of cooking and then some.
CHILAQUILES INGREDIENTS • 1 ½ pounds fresh tomatillos, husked and rinsed • 2 to 4 jalapeño or serrano chiles, stemmed, to taste (seeded for a milder salsa) • 12 cilantro sprigs, plus 1/3 cup chopped cilantro • 2 tablespoons olive oil • 1 small white onion, quartered and thinly sliced
A
t the spirited age of 19, Araceli found herself in Las Vegas working under Executive Chef Damien McEvoy who helped her fine tune her skills in the kitchen and inspired her to share her cherished family recipes with the guests of Downtown Terrace. After two years as Head Chef, Araceli now runs a full team at one of Downtown Las Vegas’ hottest eateries, offering guests from all over the world seasonally inspired favorites with a Hispanic flare. At the rare times when Araceli is not in the kitchen whipping up her next great dish to beats of 90s R&B, she can be found spending time with her family or hanging out around Downtown Las Vegas. MV

DIRECTIONS • Heat broiler. Place tomatillos and chiles on a baking sheet and set about 4 inches below broiler. Roast until dark and blackened in spots, about 5 minutes. Flip over and roast on other side until tomatillos are soft and charred in spots and chiles are soft all the way through, 4 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool for 5 minutes. •
•
Transfer tomatillos and chiles to a blender along with juices on baking sheet. Add cilantro sprigs, then blend to a coarse purée. Heat oil over medium heat in a large, wide casserole or saucepan and add onion. Cook, stirring often, until tender, 5 to 8 minutes. Add a little salt,
• • • • • •
Salt 2 large garlic cloves, minced 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth 6 large eggs 12 thick corn tortillas, cut into wedges and deep-fried ½ cup crumbled queso fresco
stir in garlic and cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 1 minute. •
Turn heat to medium-high and add tomatillo purée. Cook, stirring often, until salsa thickens and leaves a canal when you run a wooden spoon down the middle. Add broth, bring to a simmer, and simmer 10 minutes or until salsa coats the back of a spoon.
•
Your eggs can be made any way you want. I like mine over medium.
•
Stir in tortilla chips, making sure they are completely submerged, and remove from heat. Sprinkle with crumbled cheese and cilantro and serve at once.

HAND SANITIZER AND IT’S DIRTY SECRETS Alarm over the coronavirus pandemic has piqued a scavenger hunt for hand sanitizer and household supplies leaving shelf space empty and individuals in need of protection against COVID-19.
I
nspired by the opportunity to mitigate demands of the crisis, businesses small and large have come together with the mission to innovate a more sustainable supply chain in the online space by selling specialty hand sanitizers commonly infused with essential oils and antibacterial agents, such as CBD. While most plant-based ingredients work wonders for the skin, professional formulators caution consumers from paying premium price points for extracts within hand sanitizers entirely. Could it be that botanical hand sanitizers have been serving us dirty secrets bottled up in a false sense of security all along? Although it may seem as if the main ingredient in hand sanitizer is paranoia, we must take into consideration that not all are created equal. Major health agencies and experts state “making DIY hand sanitizer is more difficult than it seems and is often misleading.” As a scientific staple, hand sanitizer made with 60 percent isopropyl alcohol or greater is effective in killing the majority of germs, how-
ever many consumers are unaware that the overall alcohol ratio also diminishes benefits from particular ingredients perceived to provide extra protection. Additionally, once essential oils interact with outside variables such as heat and light, antibacterial and antiviral properties change or in some instances expire. Refraining from hand sanitizers with essential oils and other seemingly attractive complexes will ultimately keep costs down as well as prevent our skin from unexpected allergic reactions due to dyes and fragrances typically used to mask the odor of the alcohol. Despite those who brag about being avid hand washers before it was trending, it is safe to say the majority didn’t anticipate disinfectants becoming household heroes, spring cleaning in quarantine, or that over-sanitized hands stripped of oils and much-needed moisture would become visual reminders that we are all in this together. In an effort to aid cracked hands and stinging cuts from the aftermath, it is recommended to apply lotions
made with specialty oils, separate from hand sanitizers, that help calm inflammation, eliminate redness, soothe dehydrated skin, and restore its nutrients. Organic cold-pressed hemp seed oil and CBD infused lotions are also primitive in promoting sensory calming and relaxation during times of stress, uncertainty, and anxiousness. While lotions that combine a bountiful complex of oils and vitamins are amongst the many solutions to treating tender hands, there are always new methods to entertain such as the world’s first alcohol-infused sanitizing lotion established by a wellness company based out of Israel. The organic, coldpressed hemp seed oil sanitizing lotion is described to be inventive with proprietary micro-capsule technology capable of healing layers of the skin from the inside out. Possibly a pump of lotion after washing our hands with soap and warm water will prove that there is no need for dirty secrets when it comes to successful hand sanitizing habits. Or perhaps, the secret to sanitizing success is simply the result of learning from failure and perfecting the process. MV Story By: Taylor Burk

NEW HOME FOR HENDERSON SILVER KNIGHTS Reimagination of Henderson Pavilion to Create New Home for Henderson Silver Knights, Henderson Symphony Orchestra and Other Community Events.
T
he Henderson Pavilion, located on S. Green Valley Parkway south of the 215 Beltway, is being reimagined as the Henderson Event Center - an enclosed year-round venue that will be home to the American Hockey League’s Henderson Silver Knights, the Henderson Symphony Orchestra and dozens of community, civic, cultural and sporting events upon its completion in early 2022. The project, a public-private partnership between the City of Henderson and the Vegas Golden Knights, is supported by more than 70 percent of Henderson residents as determined by a statistically valid survey conducted by Discovery Nevada, an independent market research firm and a partnership of Applied Analysis and Discovery Research Group. In June, the Henderson City Council voted to award a design/build contract for the project to a local team headed by The Whiting Turner Contracting Company as Lead Design/Builder. Other team partners include Las Vegas-based Klai Juba Wald Architecture + Interiors as Lead Architect and Perkins and Will (P+W, Inc. Nevada) as Specialty Architect. Collectively, the team has considerable experience building sports venues, large and small, locally and around the world. Construction is expected to begin late summer or early fall this year.
124
The $84 million contract requires the awardee to design and build the project to requirements established by the City and SK Arena, LLC, an affiliate of the Vegas Golden Knights and owner of the Henderson Silver Knights, for a maximum price guarantee of $70 million with $14 million preserved for technology and contingencies. Project costs are being shared equally by the City of Henderson and SK Arena. SK Arena will operate and maintain the facility and oversee its programming, bringing a variety of first-class sporting, musical and cultural events to the community, including approximately 34 AHL hockey games. “This is a very positive development for Henderson that continues to build on our growing relationship with the Vegas Golden Knights and professional sports,” said Mayor Debra March, City of Henderson. “The reimagination of the venue brings to fruition the vision originally created for the Henderson Pavilion with a new, first-rate venue in one of the most vibrant areas of Henderson. Thanks to the partnership and support of the Vegas Golden Knights, Henderson will proudly claim its first professional sports team to play in the City - the Henderson Silver Knights - while simultaneously creating a new home for arts, culture and other community events.
“Construction of the Henderson Event Center will generate more than 1,000 jobs during construction and approximately 200 full- and part-time jobs annually during its ongoing operation,” said March. “Those numbers are not lost on us as our city and our community recovers from the economic impact of COVID-19.” According to Rob Herr, Assistant City Manager, Chief Infrastructure Officer, City of Henderson, the winning team boasts unparalleled experience designing and building major sports and entertainment venues in our valley and nationwide and reflects a deep understanding of the local landscape. “The team’s design met all our requirements for creating a transformational, multi-purpose community venue with professional hockey at its centerpiece,” said Herr. “Most importantly, their design includes thoughtful plans for landscaping and greenbelt areas, ample parking and publicly accessible open space to maintain connectivity with the surrounding area.” For more information, visit HendersonEventCenter.com and HendersonSilverKnights.com. WHO KNEW WITH DJ JOE GREEN DJ Joe Green has had his sights on music since 2011. Until he heard that Las Vegas would be getting our very first sports team, and that is when the gears began going into overdrive. He calls it persistence, but we call it determination. Joe says, “I would literally email them every single day, about who I am, what I do, just trying to find a way in.”
W
ell, the persistence payed off. He attained his goal of becoming the official DJ for our first major league sports team, and now spends his game days getting the crowd amped and pumped for each game. We caught up with DJ Joe Green, the official DJ for the Las Vegas Golden Knights Hockey team and the Las Vegas Aces and had the opportunity to ask him these burning questions! Q: What’s been the highlight of your career so far? A: The Vegas Golden Knights for sure, it’s been the biggest thing I’ve ever done and now I’m two and a half seasons in. It’s definitely opened a lot of amazing doors for me. Q: If you could have a residency anywhere on the strip, where would it be and why? A: The Hip Hop room at Hakkasan because it’s a huge nightclub I’ve never played at, plus I love hip hop more than anything so to be able to play there I know I’d kill it and have a lot of fun. Q: Who’s your favorite artist, who inspires you? A: Pharrell, that’s my idol right there. Him and N.E.R.D- those are my guys. I’ve always liked their approach to music, it’s the same style I try to use where you keep an open mind to all kinds of music instead of just one type of genre. Q: What’s your next venture? A: I’m trying to get in with the Las Vegas Raiders. Q: What do you like to do for fun? A: So, I’ve always been kind of nerdy, I have my own Twitch channel for streaming video games. I play a lot of shooting games and a lot of Mario or Zelda. Q: What’s your favorite local restaurant and why? A: That’s a tough one… at the moment, John Mulls Roadkill Grill. Out of all the years going there I’ve never had a time where I was like meh…it’s always been fire. MV

NEW VISTA WINE WALK
In addition to the support listed below, we host eight annual wine walks and two beer fests that are held at Downtown Summerlin and Lake Las Vegas and other exciting new local venues such as The Las Vegas Ballpark and Area 15!
T
hese events bring about 8003,000 attendees, respectively, and we also host a gala, golf tournament, and many other fundraising events throughout the year. Our longest running event, the New Vista wine walks, have been a Las Vegas staple since 2004 and are the perfect Saturday night out for friends, families and even your dog! Attendees are invited to sip, stroll and savor up to 20 “tasting stations” that feature wines from across the globe. Enjoy live music, and great food tastings - all while supporting New Vista! WHO NEW VISTA IS, AND WHAT WE DO: New Vista supports and empowers youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities or IDD, which includes Down Syndrome, the Autism spectrum disorder and other related disabilities. We provide Supported Living Homes and an array of programs to promote independence, confidence and self-advocacy, giving our members the opportunities to live life to the fullest. New Vista was founded over 30 years ago by parents of children with IDD who were concerned about what would happen to their children once they were gone or could no longer care for them. In 1987, the Gilcrease Brothers donated 15 acres of land to the charity which gave New Vista the platform to build the first 4 homes. Today, New Vista has over 22 homes in the Las Vegas area. Additionally, New Vista supports individuals with IDD still living at home with their families by providing in-home skilled staff that assist with their loved ones needs. As the largest non-profit provider of Supported Living Arrangements for individuals with IDD in Nevada, New Vista has a proud, proven track record spanning over 30 years of unparalleled service, innovative approaches and advocacy on behalf of Nevada’s youth, adults and seniors with IDD. New Vista has been at the forefront at both local and national levels for its advocacy on behalf of seniors

with IDD. Many of New Vista’s members joined the organization over 30 years ago as young men and women, and have lived together as roommates and family in safe, nurturing homes, and have transitioned as part of the agency’s senior population. In 2018, New Vista announced the launch of our Youth Initiative Campaign, which seeks to actively address the alarming challenges plaguing Nevada’s children with IDD in the foster care system. The first youth group home at the New Vista Ranch will be opening this quarter, and we stand at the ready to once again answer the call on behalf of these children who are in dire need of the unwavering support and love that New Vista homes have provided for our members during the past three decades.

IN SUPPORT OF THE NEVADA SPCA AND THE ANIMALS THEY HELP SAVE Who doesn’t love a good cat video, or “aww”-inspiring dog rescue stories? While #caturday consistently trends on twitter, and people fall in love with the #dogsofinstagram, there are charitable institutions out there who help transition homeless small animals to endeared pets.
T
he Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Nevada SPCA) is a non-profit organization that has aided over 2,000 small animals annually since its inception in 1982. It is the OG, as in original, no-kill animal shelter in Las Vegas, according to its website nevadaspca.org. Lori Heeren, Executive Director of the Nevada SPCA, says the best part of her role is “Seeing a hard-to-adopt animal because of its age or medical condition go home with a family.” She adds, “getting to play with cats and kittens at my job is pretty good too.” Heeren took the reins in the fall of last year and there have been some changes since then. Some of these changes include new overall branding for the organization, as well as improvements in the facility itself. “We launched a whole new Nevada SPCA brand with a new look you’ll see on all of our internal signage and staff uniforms,” she explained, adding “there are also changes inside the building that include a new reception desk that was donated by our benevolent friends at LGA Architecture and their partners and a much cleaner facility thanks to our hardworking staff.” Heeren also said that “Most of our staff is new along with me, starting in September, so I believe we are bringing a friendlier and more collaborative attitude to the public as well as supporters, donors and other rescue groups.” One of the major ways in which people can help the organization is by supporting the Nevada SPCA events, either adoption or fund-raising centered. The “Adopt Til You Drop” Black Friday event last year was considered a huge success in that a large number of cats and dogs were adopted, along with other small animals. “We found homes for 73 animals in one day thanks to LASIK of Nevada paying the adoption fees.” Heeren mentioned the event as one of the things she is most

This year kicked off with “Cats and Cocktails” and Lazy Dog fundraisers. As of this writing, “Mutts and Martinis” was slated for April and sponsored by Tito’s Vodka, according to Heeren. Upcoming events for the rest of the year are in the pipeline. “I will also plan other fee-waived adoption events in the future as our recent ones like our Black Friday event and our recent ‘Paws for Presidents’ event on President’s Day sponsored by Findlay Toyota were so successful and gave families another reason to commit to welcoming a pet into their home.” Aside from supporting events, the other ways to help are: monetary donations (the Nevada SPCA is not funded by other organizations); in-kind donations (pet food/treats and other supplies); planned giving (will, retirement, life insurance or transfer gifts); and volunteering (for people who like working with animals or are able to foster them). “We are an independent non-profit organization that relies entirely on the generosity of animal lovers like you to make our life saving work possible,” Nevada SPCA stated on its website. “Animals have a very restorative effect on us, and our supporters leave our shelter

feeling better about themselves and life,” Heeren said when asked how rewarding is the experience for volunteers and supporters. “That’s the beauty of animal rescue: it not only saves the animals’ lives, it saves people’s lives too,” she added. The Executive Director would also like people to know that “Nevada SPCA is a safety net for animals in our community that need homes, despite how old they are or how extensive their medical needs are.” She went on to say, “We will take care of these animals and find them loving homes after they’ve been surrendered from their current homes.” If one were to do a Google search for the meaning of “shelter,” they’d see that it’s to protect or shield from something harmful. Internet videos showing how dogs and cats were rescued by heroes among us are inspirational. And then there are stories of pets’ loyalty and the companionship they provide that tug at the heartstrings. This article is dedicated to our cat Midnight. MV Story By Olivia Kuntz
