01

Oxford School of Architecture, Oxford Brookes University MASTERS OF APPLIED DESIGN IN ARCHITECTURE (RIBA PART II) Year 2 I Semester 2 I Design Studio 3

ABSTRACT RE: MAKErspace is an intervention proposal aiming to enhance the social environment, economic, and architectural development of the City of Detroit, capitalizing on Detroit’s manufacturing background and its high reputation in technology as well as vast potential existing resources from its blighted structures. The project consists of three main programs which are; Deconstruction, Reclaim and Reconstruction. RE:MAKErspace promotes the culture of making towards the City of Makers through upcycle, reclaim and salvage. The reclaimed materials collected are mainly from deconstructed structures of blighted neighbourhoods within Detroit. With the idea of open source, the culture of making within RE: MAKErspace really promotes DoIt-Yourself (DIY) action along with the idea of remaking products based on individual creativities. and public to keep on rebuilding Detroit from within.

ABSTRACT The lab design highlights the need to create social space within the building to foster interaction and towards team-based research. A balance consideration is given between open and close lab to cater for the specific kind of research with certain type of equipment required. Flexibility to accommodate change in terms of engineering services and furniture layout is crucial for supply of exhaust air, water, electricity etc. It also allows the space to change from a lab environment to office environment (vice versa). Technology enhances flexibility in terms of working space due to the method of data recording through electronic communication system. Environmental sustainability of the space is enhanced through a good lighting condition within the building as well as thermal comfort achieved.

SACRED BONDING

Modular Housing Prototype, Gombak ,Selangor

09

International Islamic University of Malaysia B.SC. ARCHITECTURAL STUDIES (PART 1) Year 1 I Semester 2

ABSTRACT The design is derived from the concept of “a Family Tree which implements the importance of togetherness and common background. The design is dividing the zoning of public, semi private and private and is arranged following the importance of each space with the private area at the highest to get the privacy for the family. It is also as a sense of preparedness for the family in case of emergency. The spaces were divided in smaller and bigger modules. Each smaller module is permanently arranged in the bigger module. These bigger modules have 7 possible practical arrangements. The 3 units are connected by the 2 bedrooms which are located higher. The design intention is to follow the form of a modular housing prototype with a smaller and bigger module. The design is for families in a cluster housing which having their own privacy and own space. Due to that, the 3 unit modular house is having their own courtyard. To gain privacy in each unit, the designer plays with levels and also the height of every space, carefully follows the zoning and also maintains them to stick in certain bigger modules. The cluster is sharing a common backyard as a social place for the 3 families to gather. The backyard also links the 3 units with the musolla in the neighbourhood.
