Introduction There are lots of math strategies but here are a couple really easy strategies for Addition, Subtraction, Rounding, Estimation & Multiplication.

Fun Addition These are a couple of fun strategies for addition. Add 9 is for example 7+9 just take 1 from 7 making it a 6 and adding it to 9. So 10 + 6 = 16 and that’s your sum. Make a group of 10 is for example: 7+8 take 3 from 8 making it a 5 and adding the 3 to 7 making the 7 a 10. So 10 + 5 = 15. You can also line them up like this 246 + 366 _____ but you can”t put 12 under 6+6 you put the number in the ones place value. And put the other number in the higher place value. And so on. And those are a couple Addition strategies.

Easy Subtraction Here are a couple of simple Subtraction strategies. Minus 10 if you have for example 18 – 10 then you can take away 1 ten from the 10’s place value and there’s your difference. You can also line them up 227 199 _____ but you cant take away 9 from 7 so you go to the next place value and take a 1 making there be a 1 in the 10’s place value. And then adding the 1 you burrowed to the 7 so 17 – 9 = 8. That’s called Regrouping. Were those simple enough for you?

Fun with Rounding
There are many ways to estimate but here you will learn how to estimate by rounding. How to round. Rounding is very simple. But the most important thing to remember when your rounding is you have to remember if your rounding to the tens, hundreds, thousands, millions, and so on. You know that by if you for example: 7,052 you have to round to the biggest place value in this case it would be the thousands. Then the next step is to see which numbers you could round to in this case it would be 6,000 or 7,000. Then you have to see the lower place value if that number is less than 5 than you will round to 6,000 if you have exactly 5 or over 5 you will round to 7,000. Then you can also do it with 2 numbers and add or subtract them. And that’s how you round.
6
Simple Base Ten Blocks Here you will learn what are base ten blocks and ways to use them. A bit is one it looks like this
A skinny is ten it looks like this
A flat is 100 it looks like this
A pack is 1,000 it looks like this
You can also add or subtract with base ten blocks. And that’s how to use base ten blocks.
7
Fun with Multiplication Here you will learn what is Multiplication. Multiplication is for example: 5 x 3 = 15 that’s the same as 5+5+5=15 its just the first number as many times as the second number. The answer to a multiplication question is called the “product”. The two or more numbers that you multiply are called “factors. That’s what multiplication is.
