This studio involves the development of an entire city block within Toronto’s urban core in support of increased human activity. The program involves a mix of residential, light industry, office, retail and shared uses. The goal of the design development is to examine the limits of density while maintaining contextuality: street connectivity, generous recreational space, access to light and view and layering of the realms between public and private to offer complexity through multiple zones of inhabitation. In order to address the increasing population of the city core, solutions are sought that offer higher density while keeping the capacity to provide adequate open space and public amenity, foster social complexity and allow for cultural diversity.

SEAPL AN E T E RM I N A L Competition: Downtown Maiami Position: Top 10 Entry Location: Miami, USA Area: 5 000 sq.m. How to make a seaplane terminal into a downtown Miami attraction and, at the same time, compensate for the difficult climate conditions? The concept of a ‘cloud’ covering the terminal, hangars and the workshop. The cloud is designed similar to the design of airships by using lightweight plastic structure for the main body of the cloud. The envelope of the structure is transparent Teflon (ETFE). It provides protection from the sun, and natural ventilation underneath the structure. The Teflon features easy processibility, a specific gravity of 1.7, and high-energy radiation resistance. It is transparent which will create stunning visual effects for visitors. This construction should be cheap to replace and easy to move providing an insurance against destruction in the hurricane-prone climate. In close collaboration with Julian Semenov on concept development and grphic representation.

HOU SE F I E LD Competition: Star’s House Position: Third Prize Location: Moscow, Russia Area: 1 040 sq.m. The project is a proposal of a house for Andrey Arshavin, The Arsenal Soccer player. The ability to understand and reproduce a customer’s personality makes the projects really unique in terms of design and personal relation to a client. The project is a symbol of distinction of public and private life. My goal was to merge two spaces in one and create a living habitat for a soccer player. The main idea is to use a soccer field as a house boundary. Two volumes branch off of the central enclosed courtyard core and symbolize the goals. The west volume is a guesthouse and the east volume is a family house. A transparent roof structure and sliding glass walls are designed to create an inner microclimate for the courtyard space. In the summertime this walls shift to open a home soccer field, and in the winter walls are closed to create a winter garden.

In close collaboration with the principal Jason Hwang on design proposal development. Assisted in space planning, model studies and roof details design. Produced plans and sections, built a physical model.

01 Religious function strongly intersects with public and educational components 02 to create a synthesis of these elements. Equal emphases are placed on both 01 03 the social and sacred aspects of the building. The church is no longer a house 04 of worship, but also a public center, a place of union within a community. The worship hall is multifunctional and accommodates 840 people. The05 roof design incorporates a kernel of wheat as integral structure element to draw 06 03 focus to the relationship between nature and religion. 07 08

Design-build project of 3 story Moscow headquarters for the pharmaceutical corporation Abbott. As part of the design team of 5, I created interior layouts and detail assemblies of various spaces and interior pieces, such as reception desk, glass frit paterns, room number signs, flower pots and others. Assisted in space planning and preparation of working drawings; created floor, ceiling and furniture plans, elevations, and sections. Assisted in compilation of statistical data, such as bill of materials, furniture and light fixtures specifications and schedules.

Role: In close collaboration with the principal architect, I was working on the development of a front elevation for a mixed use business center proposal in a heritage district of Steelsville for the farther submission to the City Hall for the approval. By testing different front composition and proportions, as well as different material combinations, I was looking for the most appropriate solution, resulting in obtaining a permit by the City.
