Hi everyone, Summer is certainly here. With the hot, humid and hazy weather, I’m sure we all are looking forward to ski weather. Well, in just a few months, the first bus(es) will be kicking off the start of our ski season. Contracts for most of the multi-day ski trips have been signed and applications are being taken for those interested in being a trip leader. Check the web site for further information on both trips and the trip leader application. There are still a number of activities continuing for the rest of the summer. For those who attended the summer picnic, it was a good time with great weather, good food and the opportunity to enjoy the company of fellow ski

We will float down the Battenkill River on tubes, kayaks & canoes are optional. Campfire Party & BBQ on Saturday night! We will be camping at the “Camping on the Battenkill” campsites. This will be a private party for us OCer’s, if we get at least 8 people to join. I was thinking we can all meet at the Clifton Park and ride exit and go from there. Price: $45 for the day. This includes rental gun, paintball mask, ammo belt, all day air refills and 500 paintballs. Extra paint @ $15 per 500 balls. (paint washes out of clothes) About an hour north from Albany. $90 deposit to hold our reservation, which I will take care of and get refunded later. They have woods fields, urban setting, and speedball fields with bunkers. et it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!!! I thought if I start the chant now, maybe it will help us achieve a new record, or at least more snow than last season! Chime in anytime people! It is August. July was far too hot for me!

When will winter come? As much as I love to swim and waterski etc. I do not like the heat. It kept me from enjoying the traditional OC Track Day breakfast and day of wagering! I was, however, in a pool for a good portion of the day, so I survived. Hopefully some “Opening Day” photos will be shown. The picnic photos show some great fun was had at Moreau State Park. Summer activities are in high gear, though Monday volleyball saw it’s share of rain outs. There are still Happy Hours, The “Battenkill” float/camping, Baseball at “The Joe”, Golf Scramblin’, NH Seafood Festival, and various “FWF” things happening. Keep your eyes peeled on the website and join the fun! Ok, Ok, Winter stuff! The Alpine Bus Committee is still coordinating with the resorts for the season schedule. It probably will not be published until October though. The trips- I know, you want that info…well…here it is- and, there it is, and everywhere it will be so you can begin to plan! The Trips info is on the web and in the Lift Line. Trip Leader application forms are available also and need to be completed asap! The August 21st meeting will have more info for you. Leaders will be chosen shortly thereafter and we will open some trips in late September as we have the first ever, “OC Trip Preview Event” to provide information and answers to questions you might have about the upcoming trips. The trip leaders will be there to describe the trips in greater detail. Budgets are not complete, but close. Yes Colorado 3 times - but, they had the BEST cost air rates and travel itineraries for our group. I will simply list them here for those who read this article. Please be prepared with your first and second choices. We anticipate that these trips will sell out. If there are more people at the start of the trip sign up than spots available, a lottery will be conducted. Please check the OC web site for updates – including the prices, trip opening dates, along with the number of trip spots. The limitation of number of trip spots is very often related to the number of airline seats for our trips out west. There are many excellent opportunities to ski out west – OC memories to be had! All trips will be offered as is, so please check the fine print. If you have questions, you can email the VP of Skiing, Eileen Finn LeMatty, or Trips Chair, Joan Savage. If you wish to complain, you may complain to me. Maybe you’ll feel better.

ello all, I hope you are enjoying your summer. The track is in full swing and Alive at five is winding down. The club is in full swing too! We had a great time at the summer picnic - it was a great day to be in or on a body of water. The food was great and the company even greater! Thank you Chantal for putting it together! You certainly have planned many fun activities for the club. This month we can attend a Valley Cats game, camp and float on the Battenkill, participate in a paintball activity, and get happy at the Dinosaur BBQ. FACT: You don’t need snazzy gear to ride your bike; all you need is a bike, a helmet and YOU!

FACT: Almost anyone can ride a bike - it’s only as hard as you make it! Actually riding a bike can improve your health and get you in shape.

FACT: Bikes can be equipped to carry pretty big loads with attachments like a front basket or rear rack and you can always carry a backpack or messenger bag as well.

FACT: You don’t have to ride your bike the whole way - you can combine different modes of transportation to shorten the bike trip. For example, drive to a place that’s closer to work and bike the rest of the way, or ride your bike for a non-work related trips that are close to home.

MYTH #7

I’ll get sweaty.

FACT: Riding slowly casually keeps exertion low, while giving you that natural breeze. Layering your clothes properly helps your body temp just right - it’s an art you will master with time.

MYTH #8

My work clothes will get wrinkled.

FACT: Fold or roll your clothes neatly to reduce wrinkles. You can also try leaving clothes

at work.

Riding on the sidewalk is safer than riding on the street.

Get Your Golf Team Ready! Or let us team you up. OC Annual Golf Scramble is coming. Don’t miss this year’s tournament. Everyone will tell you last year’s was great. This year could even be better if you attend. What it’s all about: • 4 Person scramble – Shotgun start • Saturday August 24th, Tee time 1:30 • Après-Golf dinner included • Team and individual prizes included • Greens fee & cart • Briar Creek Golf Course – Rotterdam, NY

This is a FUN event not a PGA outing so we want all golfers regardless of skill level. The idea is to get out with fellow OC Club members to laugh and enjoy the outdoors. This golf scramble is open to all OC members & applicants. You can also invite any number of family, friends & guests to join in. So there are no excuses not to sign up. Get a foursome (or 2) together or we will team you up. Cost is $65 for OC members & applicants and $70 for non-members. Oh did I mention that this includes one hour of beer after golf?!
