Off Our Elephants
A campaign BY WILDLIFEDIRECT to change mindsets and behaviors, to end the slaughter of elephants in Africa
We want EVERYONE to take responsibility for safeguarding elephants which are a world heritage. The Campaign is headquartered in Kenya where we have already won this war once before. In the 1980 s our founder, Richard Leakey, led Kenya in destroying illegal market for ivory in Kenya and other African States. he drew worldwide media attention through the public burning of 12 tons of ivory in Kenya. The subsequent ban on international ivory trade, caused the price of ivory to collapse. The business dried up and poaching stopped.
TERRORISM
RRORISM &
DRUG TRAFFICKING are funded in part by IVORY TRADE.
this issue is not just about animals – it is about the kind of global community we want. We BELIEVE THAT justice for wildlife WILL destroy the criminals whose lifestyles threaten our future.
