social context
Grand Lucky is the one and only grocery store with Indonesian local cuisine aside from the one inside mall.
problem the road is accessed when you’re about to turn around and go out to the other road
with its fact that it’s the only grocery store in SCBD and a place where you can find Indonesian cuisine aside from the mall, the access to go to this area is rarely passed by vehicle.
thinking
separating General desctiption about ‘how’ and ‘aim’ is defined by understanding the context
stream
pumping
The brainstorming in this mind map is basically trying to find the design’s aim by merging the initial context and slip some precedents performative ideas. By defining the aim and how by understanding the initial context, i found that the performative ideas can occur as a response to the context (site). The site itself has issues that people won’t be around if it wasn’t 12 pm in weekdays. The only road which is the main road to enter the site area has an end so people need to turn around if they want to go out of the road. The other issues is about its microclimate (temperature, day light, and wind distribution on its surrounding) that also a crucial issue.

The issues here are based on social and environmental context so I tried to define 3 main aims that can solve the issues. The first aim is “access”. An access here has 2 points, whether making a new access that triggering people to come or another ‘how’ to make the area approachable. The ‘how’ to make an area approachable is more possible to do since this also the goals of the design studio. The way to answer ‘how’ is make a focal point on the area so people will getting in curious (kepo). Focal point itself is still fluttering, whether its performative ideas or its physical appearence has great potential to be explored. The second aim is wind management. This has a correlation to the 3rd aim, temperature managmenet. Both aimsare going to be explored by studying precedents
developing ideas proposed program programming ideas is defined by breaking down the goals of design. why supermarket, foodcourt, and vertical garden? the main reasons are the area is still functioned as a supermarket + foodcourt that workers will go there to eat or just having a break time. also, its current function is still the only one foodcourt that sell Indonesian cuisine with low price (something that you can’t find in any cafe or restaurant in SCBD). vertical garden works as the focal point of the building. next step:

defining requirements in each looping step, including storage and office area.
program development thinking based on the aims the ideas is to make the temperature in the area below the outside temperature and letting air to go through building. by studying how human body inhale and exhale to stabilize the body temperature, i found out that the use of diaphragm is needed to pump in air. when the diaphragm is in contraction, the cavity go bigger and the air pressure inside the cavity is low so the air entry. this concepts of breathing is an another proposed ideas.
explorations Model 1 in this model, the aim is making one looping system by connecting pipes (represented as straws). turns out there are 2 looping system and 1 straw that are not part of the loop. that part is potential as the entry to each loops. this will works as

Model 2 this are based on separation areas how big and small of the area, signed with the amount of stick. the more stick, the smaller area.
explorations Model 3 this model is about how an axis controlling some moduls. the moduls have an exact angle and rotating through its axis. the reflection on this model is there’s no exact rule about how much I need to rotate every moduls.
Keywords: Axis, Circular
the in and out mechanism is potential to make the building seems like breathing.
explorations Model 4 the separating system is in the openings. there are so much openings that will be potentials based on the space functions.

Keywords: Focal Point
Model 5 in this model, the focal point is on its physical appearance. it is made by voids that can catch your eyes for the first time you see the model.

Model 6 need of daylight need of high air flow
this model is made by folding a rectangular plan with randoms 4-sides folded shape. the stick inside and outside is too make sure the form doesn’t collapse but having a dynamic shape that can be achieved by pinching or push some sides.

the push implication is making more choices of shaping the space.

when the surface is pinched, negative space become smaller and its potential to control air flow. air velocity in smaller space become faster since the air pressure is lower than the bigger space (Venturi Effect).
