BIODETECT – YOUR FUTURE SYSTEM FOR RAPID MEASUREMENT OF BIOLOGICAL CONTAMINATION IN CONNECTION WITH MOULD AND WATER DAMAGE, ETC.

RAPID SYSTEM FOR MEASURING BIOLOGICAL CONTAMINATION

The BioDetect system helps restoration companies, mould cleanup companies, consulting and advisory firms in building analysis (mould damages etc.), insurance companies, etc., examine the mould and bacterial contamination on water-damaged materials in a fast, accurate and cost-effective way. The biofilms that arise in connection with mould and bacterial growth on water damaged building materials can be easily detected using BioDetect system.

The primary function of the BioDetect system is to determine the level of contamination on building materials and to demonstrate the cleaning and disinfection efficacy after mould or water damage restoration.

Water damage and mould growth in buildings and homes are serious health risks. Contaminated or water damaged building materials and surfaces in buildings can cause indoor air problems that can be very difficult to identify and treat. Often the cost of tests, collection of mould samples and the actual mould remediation can be immense.

MOULD AND BACTERIA REMEDIATION AND CLEARANCE TESTING –PROTOCOL FOR ATP SAMPLING OF SURFACES FOR MOULD AND BACTERIA

The BioDetect Ultrasnap ATP swabs and the BioDetect Systemsure II luminometer will be used to determine the level of surface contamination for viable biological matter, primarily bacteria and biofilms that may be present on contaminated surfaces. The purpose of the sampling is to determine the level of biological surface contamination of abated substrates, building surfaces and materials that are part of a remediation project, cleaned and disinfected building materials that are being left in place or are not being abated. The building materials suitable to be tested with the BioDetect system include, but are not limited to, wall studs (metal and wood), concrete, vinyl and ceramic tile, laminate surfaces, stainless steel, masonry materials, plastic, gypsum board or sheetrock, wood sheathing, glass, etc.

The BioDetect bio-contamination detection system is designed to evaluate the level of surface cleanliness and sanitized hygiene in the indoor environment after mould and bacteria restoration. This system will not detect specific strains of bacteria, viral or other micro-organisms, rather will measure and document the total surface where these types of organisms may be detected or harbored as a result of dirty and unhygienic conditions.

METHODOLOGY

1. Identify the target surface to sample (ie; wall studs (metal and wood), concrete, vinyl and ceramic tile, laminate, stainless steel, masonry materials, plastic, laminate, gypsum board or sheetrock, wood sheathing, glass, etc.)

2. Use aseptic techniques for all sample collection. Remove the plastic cover or tube from the BioDetect ATP swab sampling device. This will expose the swab bud, which is pre-moistened to assist in sample collection. Ensure to NOT directly touch the swab bud or swab shaft with your fingers or hand or it will become contaminated.

3. Thoroughly swab the desired sample surface over a 10 x 10 cm sampling area using approximately 10 strokes vertical and 10 strokes horizontal over the sample area while rotating the swab over the surface. The swab can also be used to sample inaccessible surfaces which are smaller or bigger than 10 x 10 cm.

4. After swabbing or dipping into liquid, place the plastic tube back over the swab bud and insert the open end back into the collar of the entire device.

5. Grasp the bulb end of the sampling device and the small plastic stem inside the bulb. Then break the snap valve by bending this plastic stem forward and backward until the stem breaks off. Hold the device upright during this step.

6. Squeeze the bulb twice to expel the reagent in the bulk down into the collection tube covering the swab bud tip.

7. Gently shake the device to thoroughly mix the liquid contents in the base of the device for approximately 5 seconds. This ensures the swab bud is properly washed or bathed in the reagent solution.

8. Insert the entire sampling device into top of the BioDetect Systemsure II luminometer. Be sure to insert the device completely into the open port hole before closing the lid of the luminometer. The sample device should be inserted into the luminometer and read within 60 seconds after breaking the valve stem and activating the reagent as outlined in Step 5), for the most accurate results.

9. Close the lid of the luminometer.

10. Press the "OK" button to read the sample results. This process will take 15 seconds from the time you press the "OK" button. Be sure to hold the instrument up and down (vertical position) to obtain the best results.

INTERPRETATION OF BIODETECT SAMPLING RESULTS

BIO-REVEAL FOR IICRC S520 INTERPRETATION

Surfaces sampled were relatively dry or had been impacted with water and were near dry when sampled for ATP.

Sampled Surface Condition

NORMAL FUNGAL ECOLOGY

An indoor environment that may have settled spores, fungal fragments or traces of actual growth whose identity, location and quantity are reflective of a normal fungal ecology for a similar environment.

SETTLED SPORES

An indoor environment which is primarily contaminated with settled spores that were dispersed directly or indirectly from a condition 3 area, and which may have traces of actual growth.

ACTUAL GROWTH

An indoor environment contaminated with the presence of actual mould growth and associated spores. Actual growth includes growth that is active or dormant, visible or hidden.

* ATP results relative to Condition 1 were dependent on the overall housekeeping cleanliness within the sampled location or on the sampled surface. Typical Condition 1 surfaces yielded ATP results that ranged from 1 RLU to 50 RLUs; however, there were samples that were as high as 150 RLUs.

CONSIDERATIONS WHEN USING THE BIODETECT SAMPLING SYSTEM

a) Damaged or accidental activations of the sampling swab device should not be used and should be disposed of.

b) Disposal of the sampling swab device can be in general waste. No special precautions are required for disposal.

c) Avoid collecting large amounts of sample debris on the swab bud. Too much sampled material may reduce signal strength of test and provide inaccurate readings or false negatives.

d) Hold the BioDetect Systemsure II upright during Step 10).

e) Hold the BioDetect Ultrasnap ATP swab device upright when activating in Step 5).

f) The BioDetect Ultrasnap ATP swabs will tolerate room temperature storage for up to two months but all unused sampling devices should be stored in the refrigerator, where they will remain viable for up to 12 months.

PRO-CLEAN

RAPID PROTEIN RESIDUE TEST

PRO-Clean is a quick and easy way to accurately monitor the cleanliness of surfaces to help ensure product quality. PRO-Clean detects protein residues left on a surface after cleaning. Simply swab a surface, release the reagent and if protein residue is present the reagent will turn purple.

The color change provides a semiquantitative measure of the surface cleanliness. The more contamination present, the quicker the color change to purple and the darker the color. PRO-Clean quickly validates the hygiene of a surface, allowing immediate corrective action to be taken if necessary.
