ARCHITECTURE ENCAPSULATES ALL THAT IS SOCIAL, YET THE ESSENCE IS BEING NEGLECTED AND ITS’ POWER..IGNORED. ARCHITECTURE HOLDS THE ABILITY TO ALTER THE PERCEPTIONS OF A NATION, AND THE COGNITIVE CONSEQUENCES WHERE OUR THOUGHTS ARE CONSTANTLY CHANGING WITH OUR SURROUNDINGS AND HOW WE INHABIT SPACE AND CREATE PLACE. JUST LIKE ACTORS, OVER A PERIOD OF TIME WE STUDY THE USER AND BECOME THE USER, IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND HOW THE ETHOS OF THE SPACE WILL WORK FOR THOSE WHO WILL INHABIT IT – “WISDOM IS ACQUIRED, NOT BY READING OF BOOKS, BUT OF MEN” (HOBBES, 1651). OUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS ARCHITECTS ARE BEING REDUCED, WHERE IT NEEDS TO BECOME OUR DUTY TO EMPATHIZE, FEEL AND CREATE. FOR ME, ARCHITECTURE IS NOT DEFINED BY A BUILDING OR STRUCTURE, BUT RATHER HOW ITS INHABITANTS REACT TO THEIR ENVIRONMENTS, A FEELING. ARCHITECTURE SOMEWHAT SIMULTANEOUSLY ACTS AS A SCREEN THAT DISPLAYS THE SPECTACLES INHABITED IN THE PALIMPSEST OF TIME IN SOCIETY.

AVIATION CORRECTIONAL

My name is Nadia Constan-tatos, a junior architect and urban designer with a deep passion for my craft and the potential thereof to help shape the world in a positive way. Building on my South African heritage of being born into a complex and diverse society, and following the completion of my Masters degree, I have achieved valuable work experience, practiced open-minded thinking and spatial enthusiasm. I offer a unique combination of artistic talent and technical innovation - which I believe are necessary skills to successfully manage the responsibilities associated with future endeavors, where my intuition has been shaped by my experience from a sculptor in my childhood, to the questioning of conventional systems in the realm of architecture and theory. With just two short years of experience in practice and a great many more in design and creative thinking, I earned an enormous opportunity to further my education at the Spitzer School of Architecture in New York in 2018, where I have not only furthered my own knowledge within the discourse of Architecture, but also that of the discourse itself.

‘SERRA DA ARRÁBIDA’ OFF THE COASTAL CITY OF LISBON, REMAINS THE BIRTHPLACE OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL MYSTERY. ARRÁBIDA BRECHA REPRESENTS A MYSTERIOUS INTERSECTION OF AUTOPOEITIC OCCURRENCES, WHERE IT’S USE BY MAN BEGUN WITH THE GEOMETRIC FORMS IN WHICH IT PROJECTS DURING THE MANUELINE PERIOD AS A STRUCTURAL ELEMENT, TO DECORATIVE ELEMENTS DURING THE BAROQUE PERIOD. AND NOW, WE REFLECT AS TO WHY OUR PERCEPTIONS ON NATURE ALTERED MEANING, WHEN DID WE DECIDE THAT THE GEOMETRIC WAS MAN, AND THE ORGANIC WAS NATURE - AND WHY ARE THEY SEPARATE.

THE URGENCY TO PROTECT THIS STONE EXISTS; BUT WE CANNOT SAVE IT WHEN ITS’ A MERE VOID. WE CANNOT ALWAYS CONTAIN, BUT WE CAN PROTECT IT THROUGH THE PRESENTATION OF THE VOID. WE NEED TO REALIZE HOW WE TRULY BENEFIT FROM NATURE, AND THAT WE ARE NATURE. WE CAN COMPREHEND THIS VIA VOIDS AND CONTRAST BETWEEN THE TECTONIC AND STEREOTOMIC, PROCESSES WITHIN THE NATURAL; WHILE TELLING THE STORY OF A “THING” OF A MULTITUDE OF INTERSECTING PROCESSES TO FORM ONE COMPOSITION.“THINGS” EXIST IN MANY WAYS, IN PROXIMITY TO ONE ANOTHER FROM THE SAME WORLD IRRELEVANT OF THE DISTANCE DENOTING NEAR OR FAR.
