One way to get better at what you do is by testing it first using plasticine. Making sure that the elements are balanced and that they work together is essential. After doing that step, changing yourmaterial gives it a whole new perspective.

WEEK 2 REQUIREMENTS

1-Statement. 2-Create 3 different compositions. In each composition there should be 3 elements: dominant, sundominant and subordinate. It should be interesting from all sides. 3-Study the relationship between each composition on the board and examine the negative space they create and decide which position will create this connection the best.

THE CONCEPT OF TIME has always been a factor to consider. In fact we are always in an inevitable conflict with it. But as Steve Jobs said: “It is clear that (it is )the most precious ressource we all have �


THE PAST

“Precious�.

We often refer to the past as a wondeful and precious time because we tend to miss it. In this composition, the dominant element which is the cube is the most valuable part. it is wraped up by to other elements that are holding it closely. its presence define the whole concept of the past. In order words, the past is so precious that it makes you learn. The two other elements tend to serve as hands with the purpose of not letting go.

THE PRESENT “Imprisoned vulnerability�.

Having a past that you hold on to represents wonderful memories, unables you to get out of your comfort zone. This inability to move or to act is represented by the cube (becoming a subdominant) where the obstacles we face is keeping us still and not moving. the obstacles we face represented by the cuboid trap us in a world where we cannot act.

ANALYSIS Obstacles that we face in our everyday life. They are the things that make us weak and that unable us from doing what we want. They rather control us. The cube represents every human being.

OBJECTS STACKED ONE OVER THE OTHER TO REPRESENT THE VULNERABILITY OF THE CUBE

The base is what holds us and keeps us still during our journey.

The fact that they are stacked (one over the other is not a good idea beacuse it is on the ground and does not show any real elevation The shapes between the dominant and the subordinate could have been better if they were different.

THE FUTURE “Mysteriously spontaneous�. The future, something we look forward too. the cube itself is getting smaller and is opening itself to new oportunities. The subordinate (cube) represents change and progressivness. it is ambiguous, mysterious and more importantly spontenous.

ANALYSIS OF THE PLASTICINE MODEL The new element is thinner because it gives more meaning to the composition then when it was thick.

REQUIREMENTS Using plasticine, finalize one of the models from week 2. Make sure to respect the rules and adjust the proportions and the connections.

FINAL PROJECT DESCRIPTION The composition has 3 elements. From all sides, the center piece remains the cube. Holding it are 2 cuboids. The one that has more light is made with bals wood. in contrast with the one with the black foam board. Inside the cube there are major details in a small skcale.

ANALYSIS This composition represents a library. The library consists of the main part which is the cube in the middle. This part has 3 levels which are reserved for study purposes and reading. The right part is for conferences or projects. I worked with acrylic to illustrate glass because natural light gives a good opportunity for people to read.

The dominant part is detailed and well represented .

The building is missing functionnality for the subdominant and the subordinate forms.

The materialas work with each other.

CONCEPT My 2 opposite statements are Risk and Tranquility. Being at risk is being exposed to danger unlike tranquility where everything is calm and monotonaus.

Imagine youself under a pointy edge. How would that make you feel? would you be anxious and feel the risk? in fact, the danger is represented by the cone that is about to fall because it is nearly lying on an inclinde object. pointy edge =risk

TRANQUILITY

DESCRIPTION This composotion has 3 elements. The cone is dominant and is facing upwards. Pierced into this element is a semi sphere facing down. To create that balance between the 2 elements a third one is added and it is a cylinder. The cone is touching the ground from its edge and the semi-sphere is lifted completely.

ANALYSIS

The cone is ending at a specific point and hold a horizontal semisphere which represents that calmness and monotonous feeling. The elements together do not represent a risk or any danger. They are balanced. The cylinder is still which is not causing any disturbance.

FEEDBACK The composition is really good, the elements together are Cone facing up = improvement or evolution = not what its supposed to mean in this context.

REQUIREMENTS Using materials, choose the best plasticine composition and represent it. Make sure that the materials respect your statement.

DESCRIPTION As we can see there are 3 elements in this composition. The cone is done with 8 cork circles with different diameter and they are all put in to black painted barbecue stick. On the back, there are 2 other elements: the cylinder done with a glue gun stick and wires. The semisphere is a combinaison of foam board, cork and wood.

The colors represents a child-like feeling like in the painting and illustrates the liveliness and vivacity of the european architecture.

The use of elastics gave the feeling of playfullness as mentioned. For next time think on how you could make it better for it to be a lighting fixture

CONCEPT OF DESIGNS This design represents a couple embracing each other. The man in this figure is represented in the rectilinear shapes (triangular and rectangular), unlike the woman shown by the curvilenear shapes and the circle. The area of intersection between the curvilenear and the rectlinear shape signifies the love between the two. It is hard to tell when the person stops and the other one begins. At this moment, they are one. 92

ANALYSIS The connection between both shows how rectilinear and curvilinear are linked. how both the man and woman become one because of their love for each other.

Space for shoulder

The rectilinear part is not well represented with wires, try using another material. The shoulder part is a good idea. This part needs part needs to be closer to the neck. The necklace looks very rough because of the wires.
