IC: The department of economics, Immanuel College, Dimapur celebrated “World Consumer Rights Day” at Cambridge School, Lengrijan, Dimapur. The students and faculty members led by head of the economics department, S Temsusenla Ao visited the Cambridge School and imparted awareness about the importance of clean energy and consumer empowerment to the young minds. The students had initiated a talk on how to conserve energy with the class 9 students of Cambridge School Lingrijan, Dimapur.

DIMAPUR: As part of the academic and extracurricular activities, educational institutions across the state organised various programmes for the students and teaching faculty.

MHSS: One day faculty programme on the topic, “Mentoring and counselling” was organised by Modern Higher Secondary School (MHSS) on March 15 at the School Conference Hall.

Speaking on the topic, resource person, chairman, Carl Rogers Institute of Mental Health and counselling, Kezhazolie Cornelius deliberated on the concept of mentoring and counselling, differences between mentoring and counselling, counselling room settings, and core of counselling skills.

He also stressed on the importance of rapport building between the counsellor and the client, empathy, types of empathy and therapy skills.

A practical session was also conducted for the teachers towards the end of the session. The programme was chaired by Yatetsongla (department of Arts) and vote of thanks was delivered by Abenla Longkumer (department of Arts). Altogether, 16 teachers from Higher Secondary attended the programme.

NEISSR: A ten-day “Rural Camp” of the students of North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) commenced on March 14 at Rotomi Village, Zunheboto district.

In a press release, NEISSR termed “Rural Camp” an important component of the professional social work training for Master of Social Work (MSW) students, which would provide opportunity for the students to have a better experience of rural and community life.

The camp focuses on involving trainees’ participation in planning, designing and initiating activities for themselves as well as the rural people. During the stay at Rotomi village, the students will practice field-based tools like participatory rural appraisal, along with other activities like home visit, cultural events and sports related activities.

NCC, SC: 1 Naga Girls Bn NCC of Sazolie College, Phezhu, Jotsoma, visited the Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home (KODH) for Social Service and Community Development Activity on March 14. The team comprised of all the staff members, Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar,15 cadets and ANO

Aphrenuo Peinyu.

During the visit, K. Zaputuo-u briefed the visiting team on the working of the Orphanage Home with around 60 inmates, and how they carry out their social works and projects and other outreach programmes.

ANO, Aphrenuo Peinyu stated the objective of the visit while subedar major, Sanjay Kumar encouraged the children to be active in doing their activities and build interest and come forward to join NCC.

After the programme, the team had an interaction and conducted fun-filled activities for the children.

In a separate programme, the NSS unit of Sazolie College organised a community extension programme to Mezoma village on March 11 under the theme, “Reaching out to the rural”.

According to a DIPR report, the programme was a part of 180 districts across the country held on the theme, “National Unity and Solidarity”.

Various exhibitions were conducted and winners were given cash award and certificates.

During the programme, K. Chunchun from DGC won the declamation talent hunt; Almina Bebe from Unity College won photography talent hunt; Imlijungla Aier from Livingston Foundation International won the young writers talent hunt- poem; Arthonthung T Yanthan from DGC won young artists talent hunt - painting competition while cultural festival award was won by DGC. All the winners will be participating in the state and National level competition.

The programme began with welcome address by DGC principal, Sanjay Sharma and invocation prayer by DGC EC secretary, Lalhai Singson.
