01 MADINATY RESIDENTIAL DISTRICT DMA - MASTER PLANNING - 2016 The masterplan was developed around a green boulevard resonated from the neighboring park, by which creating a semi private interactive community that connects the two sides of the project inwards and outwards. This arrangement builds on the plot’s surrounding amenities and potentials, and through this green spine, creating a hierarchy of outdoor spaces inwards towards the private areas of the project. Accordingly, providing a decentralized service zone, evenly distributed between the districts.

02 CAIRO GIZA ZOO DMA - MASTER PLANNING - 2016 A once internationally acclaimed 80-acre public space, built during the reign of the Khedive Ismail, this botanical zoological garden was put up for a development rehabilitation plan competition as the CSR program by one of Egypt’s renowned banks. All teams worked together on developing a scope of work by which the zoo would be reclaimed and re-established back to the renowned property of the city it used to be through the concept of: COHABITATION.

03 KAMPALA CITY CENTER FREELANCE - MASTER PLANNING - 2015 The city of Kampala revealed significant architecture and urban fabric that rose from corresponding to users’ needs and weather conditions. It is quite a challenge to design in such a well rooted region, accordingly the design approach focuses on learning from the Ugandans techniques that were developed over the decades. Based on the need of shelter, we built on the urban fabric with its creative configurations and local building materials to portray a genuine impression of Kampala to visitors in the heart of the city.

04 MADINATY COMMERCIAL DISTRICT DMA - MASTER PLANNING - 2015 Beyond the project there is another (Madinaty) district, and efficient community with an ever increasing population. The project is creating a lively, walk able centre with a traditional main route grid that encourages easy movement of people and vehicles, with a design inspired by the resort lifestyle; pedestrian scaled buildings set among a network of shaded outdoor spaces, sidewalks, passages, gathering and dining places with iconic style, all cooled naturally through appropriate orientation. An urban centre designed as a series of formal composition of buildings, patios, piazzas. The gardens are comprised of open air complexes that combine retail facilities and pedestrian amenities including specialty stores, a variety of shops and upscale restaurants. The mix of contemporary and Tuscan architecture forms are shaped from indigenous materials and rich earth colors.

05 BRIDGING GAPS COMPETITION - PUBLIC SPACE - 2014 The competition was part of an initiative for Egyptian designers and thinkers to participate in a creative intervention in the city. Our team of an architectural background gathered for a public space intervention. We chose the model of the bridge (in our case 6th of October bridge) as a running infrastructure in the city, that which passes major iconic areas such as the Nile, yet create dead spaces underneath. The action area is Abd El Meneim Riyadh station, combining a central hub area through a bus station underneath the bridge, the corniche in this specific area and the bridge crossing the Nile to Zamalek (a major hub). The behavioural pattern of the area was considered the main drive to facilitate this zone to accommodate the public space needs; a SUSPENDED (BRIDGING) PROMENADE on the Nile, an accessible EQUIPPED BUS STATION, and a that houses room for an outdoors gathering and a cultural meeting point.

06 ECOLODGE DEVELOPMENT KARM SOLAR - MASTER PLANNING - 2013 The eco lodge needs to be a place to enjoy and relax yet give the opportunity to reflect and connect with nature in the area on an active and deep level. The organic grid will be formulated with the use of the facilities and the eco park that suits the location taking full advantage of the natural beauty and the sea water inlet feature and enhancing its importance. The water inlet and the organic grid together must become the back bone of the project that binds one structure and activity to the other.

07 Landscape Items DMA - MOUNTAIN VIEW - 2014 The Urban and Landscape department in DMA designs and executes an array of projects in the field. Its primary client is Mountain View, a real estate company that provides residential communities in suburban areas, as well as touristic and vacation housing in coastal areas in Egypt. As an architect in the design section, I participated in presenting and preliminary design of the following few examples of the landscape items design for the open spaces of residential compounds.

08 MASTER PLANNING DMA - MOUNTAIN VIEW & EXTERNAL PROJECTS 2015 Master planning at DMA develops from an intensive concept development as to how to address not only client needs, but also user needs. The following projects are two resorts in the North Coast, Red Sea Coast, and a residential compound in the new city development. With different living and usage attributes, the concept develops on a user’s activity program traced from the user’s life style. We believe that the functional program along side spatial coherence and ease of circulation would round up into a comfortable living experience. I mostly participate in the concept derivation, urban analysis and presentation of the product.

09 CAIRO AQUEDUCT URBAN DEVELOPMENT & REHABILITATION AUC BACHELOR THESIS STUDIO I - FALL 2012 This is part 1 of the graduation project, executed as a group, an urban scale modification to address the connectivity of the Nile and the city. Restoration of the connection between the Nile and the aqueduct will revitalise the monument and its surrounding; retaining a historical landmark, upgrading the living status of the local residents, while promoting tourism in the area. An insight to this location that can lead to some improvement in the surrounding living standards when combined with several projects highlighting the monument, that will serve both the locals and the visitors.

10 INTER MODAL STATION FOR THE CAIRO AQUEDUCT AUC BACHELOR THESIS STUDIO II - SPRING 2013 After allocating the locations of our individual projects, primarily located at the breaks in the monument (aligning our theme of connectivity), each team member carried out an intensive research for the their immediate project surrounding. I started looking at how the break in the aqueduct affected the social and physical behavior of the locals. Analyzing the problems and tracking the behaviour led to understanding an approach by which the space could be resolved and redeemed to the wholesome experience of the aqueduct. The station will house the existing metro line that broke into the Aqueduct, and connect the two sides divided by the metro, also proposing new modes of transportation to enhance connectivity to the area. parallel RIBS of green FOLDING into enclosures, accentuating the spine PENETRATING the aqueduct. Maintain the AQUEDUCT’s RHYTHM through LIGHT by solid & void treatment of the station’s spaces according to the OPENINGS GRID of the AQUEDUCT.

AUC STRUCTURE STUDIO - SPRING 2013 We were assigned to build a 1:1 scale exhibition space using cardboard, without any adhesive. By only using the structural properties of cardboard we were able to build the structure. The structure was to portray the nature of our studio culture in Architecture, which we derived a statement to describe: Passing on Traces towards Forming a Whole. Accordingly, we ,as a group, opted a mesh structure, by which each individual slice would connect with another, by wedging, to form this whole “the Realm” of our department.

BRIDGING GREEN
AUC GREEN CAIRO WORKSHOP - FALL 2012 AUC in cooperation with Architecture and Vision studio delivered a workshop on how to implement sustainable participations in the urban scape of Cairo. I proposed incorporating the stretch of 6th October bridge in the heart of Cairo to implement vegetation pods using Ivy plants as a purifier (purifies Benzene, carbon monoxide,..etc.). With bases at every support of the bridge structured in the city, associated by a light weight steel structure hinged at the bridge railing the plant (a natural climber) would crawl on the bridge creating a vegetation strip across Cairo, PURIFYING AIR and creating a HABITABLE ENVIRONMENT.
