Nail Story Story: Master Nails This edition of Nail Story includes an interview with the couple Ed and Yvonne Voets from the company Master Nails in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. Master Nails is sub-distributor of Nail Creation in the Netherlands. How did you end up in the nail styling business? Yvonne: I was already a beautician when I saw an advertisement for nail training. I considered it a good commercial addition and immediately started with the training. What did you do before? Yvonne: My husband and I owned two clothing shops for more than ten years, but the beauty industry was more appealing to me. Together with my daughter, who is a beautician/nail stylist as well, I started a beauty institute in the centre of Rosmalen.

A professional approach right away then? Ed: Yes, from day one! We first set about furnishing the shop. Then we started to give speciality treatments, which immediately set us apart from other salons. We do everything that is HOT right now, and the nail salon was doing great within a year! I guess you are not doing everything by yourselves... Ed: No, it would be impossible to do everything by ourselves. We run the institute and the wholesale business together with our daughter, another beautician, a pedicure and two trainees. We also collaborate with a cosmetic physician and with hospitals in the region.. What type of customers do you have? Yvonne: Our target group is the midsegment mostly, young and older people


and career women. An increasing number of men also come to us, especially men with problem nails.

People are also wildly enthusiastic about Solid Lac. It is a great extra product, and people do not want anything else!

How many customers do you have in a week? Yvonne: It varies, but on average we have 70 customers a week.

What are your plans for the future? Would you like to expand your business? Ed: We are currently focusing on putting our nail wholesale business on the map and giving training. We have also just finished our new web shop for nail products (www.masternails.nl). Another beauty salon is not an option right now, but we are setting up a hair removal salon for temporary and definitive hair removal.

What types of treatments are requested most in the salon? Yvonne: Because our range is so extensive, every day is different. It ranges from a standard facial treatment to a speciality, to doing someone's nails. Everything is fun, you should not be in this business if you don't like giving certain treatments. Which nail treatments are the most popular? Problem nails. But the most requested are traditional artificial nails. The most important thing is that it is representative.
